If you go to Rio, you really need to go to the termas during the daytime. Termas essentially are brothels. IMHO, the girls are much better than you will find in Mexico and the termas aren't nearly as crowded as CC and AB are on weekends. Centarus is one terma that was packed full of women when I was there; it actually had too many women (since there were so many alot of them seemed to be very aggressive and pushy). You pay a charge to get into the Terma and then additional charges for the girl & for the room.
Here is a list of termas with addresses; most of these are also listed in the phone book in the yellow pages under Termas. My favorites are Rio Antigo, Solarium, and Aeroporto. I've heard that Paradisio in Barra is also nice but I've never been there.
For the most part, the hours/addresses/phone # all come from the websites for the termas. Note: if 3 prices are listed, then prices are (entry fee/40minute session/60 minute session).

Youngtom, are these places strickly by the hour or can you cut a deal to take the woman out for an extended period of time? Would any of them be interested about something on the side? I have read a lot of stories about guys who do allnighters with women from the late night disco places that extend into days at a time. Thanks.

Offically the termas are by time. The rooms rent for either 40 or 60 minutes; fixed price depending on the house. Although to me the differences in prices between termas seemed very minor. I think that they keep a close eye on the girls so I don't think you could sneak one out and I'm not aware of what the costs are to take a girls out for an "all nighter". I'll be back down in about 3 weeks, I'll check. But many of the girls are very willing to meet you on their days off. A friend advised me to write my address and phone number down on a piece of paper and if you see a women that you really like then just give it to her and try to arrange a date. When you don't speak the same language these normally obvious points are extremely important. The women are incredibly friendly (I know the women in Mexico are friendly too as long as you have $$) but I think there might be something more there. When I was in Rio, I met this woman that I really liked at Rio Antigo, gave her my little piece of paper & she showed up at my hotel the next day.
It is funny when you sit out in the bar, most of the women that I met initiate kissing and grabbing your balls (in a real tackful sort of way :-)) there in the bar. Normally I don't care for this public display of affection but in the termas I really like it (not sure why yet; I think I'll have to go back again to try to figure out why). They also seem to really enjoy sex ( and not just because of the money). It really is something to experience.
It will cost about $75-$100 bucks right now at a terma for a trip to the room.
Now if you want to pick up a woman out in front of Help, the going rate is about $50.
Boy, lots of **great** looking women in Rio. It is well worth the trip.

Gentlemen:
Does anyone have a web address for Centaurus? When I was there in January, I saw a web address printed on a brochure at the club. I did not pick one up at the time. I wanted to show my friend the web site.

Julian,
Just curious. What were your thoughts on Centaurus or any other termas that you might have visited?
Most of the termas close on the weekend but Centaurus is open on Saturday so I'll probably go ahead and try it out again on my next visit.

Youngtom:
I tried most of the termas you listed. Centaurus is great because of location and the quality of the girls. I always had a great time there. I also liked Aeroporto. It was fanatastic and the number of customers was minimal. I have heard that the quality used to be better, even better than Centaurus. I find that hard to believe. Anyway, a diamond in the rough is Quatro X Quatro. I like it because it is so big and you can find some real stunners. I was there one night and waited awhile before making my move. I saw this fantastic woman appear and that was it. It was her first night working and a great experience. I did not believe that was her first night, but it was true. The women who issue the rooms and the bar tenders had no idea who she was.
I would recommend to try Qautro X Quatro one time. It is a locals place but that makes it more fun!

Been to RIO - 8 trips in the last 30 mths - for Wine,Women & Song.
I prefer the Termas to the HELP disco Garotas - the Termas for safety reasons, no rip offs, time purchased is guaranteed, friendly & fabulous garotas.
Termas 4 X 4 - fabulous choice over 100 - garotas stage non-stop shows from 7pm - Thurs is "party" night - local male office crowd - thus no "tourist" rip off's - ALWAYS take a taxi back at night, do not walk downtown.
Termas Antigo - nice new facilities - garotas in long cocktail dresses - about 40 beauties - shows - friendly.
Termas Solarium - 25 garotas - friendly - some gems - open on Sundays.
Termas Centaraus - Expensive, with a large selection over 75 - but similar beauties are available at the other Termas.
Termas 65 - good selection about 80- it is management policy to get the girls to steer you to a expensive suite, even when many cabins are available.
Termas U'Luomo - 25 Garotas - quality not so high - but open on Sundays.
Termas AeroPorto - a few gems among 25 garotas - some as old as 35 yrs - office crowd.
Termas Monte Carlo - 25 Garotas - beauties & friendly - Marcio (Manager) speaks English & very helpfull - departure day can leave your bags in his office & will arrange private taxi for ride to airport.
Termas Pedagio - 10 average Garotas - small dingy rooms.
Two "Houses" located next to each other - "Copacabana" & "Diobotics" at 583/203 & 583/201, Av Cobacabana - just a room for sex - no "Terma" experience - but some gems.
Cheap "Quickie" houses at the Medical Mall Bldg - 43 Siqueira Campos - # 620, # 811 # 812 - just average.
Garotas from the HELP disco & sidewalk cafe - most of my experiences have been negative - they will agree to a time , but will try to rush you, get a call on their cellular phone, say its a emergency and go.This is my experience, yours may differ. Thus I now prefer the Termas girls - they will meet you after work & on off days
Each trip, I try out a new Termas - hope to return to Rio in Nov.

Is the entrance fee like a membership so you pay it once and if you come back another time, you do not have to pay again???
If that's the case, how long is it good for, a year or maybe lifetime???
By Youngtom on Sunday, July 08, 2001 - 09:13 pm: Edit |
The entrance fee is a one shot fee per entry. All the termas have them - they vary from about R$20 on the low end to R$80 on the high end (at Centarus).

It’s been about ten years ago that I visited my first Termas in Rio. The type of experience I had has not been mentioned on this thread. Maybe things have changed but here is a bit on what I saw……. When entering the place it was nothing more then a guy standing behind a counter much like you would see at a hotel. I signed a piece of paper that noted only my name and where I was staying. I was directed through a door that lead to a small room with a couple of chairs and a bunch of lockers. We (there was three of us) were told to undress and each given a towel to cover ourselves with. That room then lead to the Termas. Once inside we were in a large bar type setting with other guys all wrapped in towels, some sitting and talking to girls and others just sitting alone at the bar or at tables. We had complete roam of the place, sit were you like,,, do what you want. I remember they had a large gym and sauna where I spent most of my time….. they had a couple of nurses giving massages with extras,,,, there were girls to take to rooms,,,, the whole nine yards but at no time did money exchanged hands or prices brought up….. when we left we went back to the guy at the counter and he had an itemized list for each of us even though I never noticed anyone paying attention to us inside…… okay…. two drinks… a massage and a blow job comes too…… and so on….
I remember leaving and thinking,,,,, wow,,, everyone who’s just been through a devoice needs to come here……
I did about another six visits after that but never made it back to a Termas…..

Tequilla Please - Despite the passage of time, your description is probably still very accurate for most termas especially in regards to the overall atmosphere etc. I also would add that even if one isn't in the midst of a divorce then the termas are still a "must do" if one goes to Brazil.
They do however keep track of what you owe money for. When you enter, generally they ask if it is your first time at the termas & if it is then they attempt to explain the basic costs. Basic costs include an entry fee, money for the girl if you take one to the room, and money for the house if you take a girl to the room. If you want more time or a nicer room then it costs a bit more. The prices vary slightly from termas to termas but it seems like the price for the entry charge, a trip to the room, and the girl for 40 minutes generally cost about R$150 (at least at the more popular termas - Rio Antigo, Solarium, Aeroporto,4x4,Monte Carlo, L'uomos). If you upgrade to a suite (and an additional 20 minutes) then it will cost about R$200 total.
Generally you don't need to pay anything on entry (at Centuraus you do, but it is the exception - there you pay the entry fee & the charge for one trip to a cabine ~R$200). They give you a bracelet that has a numbered tag on it; this number is your locker number & is also how they track what you owe. When you buy a drink, you show them your number & this shows up on your bill later. One needs to hang onto your bracelet like a blank check because that is exactly what it is in a termas. You pay your bill on the way out the door. Most of the termas will take major credit cards in addition to cash.

YoungTom,
Do you use a credit card for the termas ? Are you comfortable in general using a credit card at hotels such as the Rio Roiss, and also at restaurants ? Have you heard of much credit card fraud coming out of Rio. I know it happens from time to time in TJ and CR.

The bank removed the fraudulent charges, but it was a pain in the a... There is a ton of credit card fraud in Rio. Be very careful about carrying and using your cards. A lot of places still use carbon impressions, and I've seen people going through the trash to find carbons. Every place accepts them; but use with caution.

There is another thread that deals with this same issue Club Hombre: South America: Brazil: Rio de Janeiro:Advice/Questions/Commentary: Money/Exchange Rate. Quester & Bacho give some excellent advice in regards to how to distribute your money between credit cards/cash & travelers checks.
In the past I have primarily paid for my termas & the Rio Roiss with credit cards. This is primarily related to hearsay regarding travelers checks being very difficult to exchange, not wanting to carry a ton of cash, etc. But now that I know that one can exchange AX traveler checks at the American Express office, I think that I'll bring more money in travelers checks and use my credit cards less.
I've heard of a couple other people having problems with having their credit cards run up fraudulently. If I could get all the Solarium charges removed from my bill, I'd be a richer man :-). I've avoided using them elsewhere (other than termas & hotel) to try to minimize the risk of being riped off.

These comments are all related to some thoughts that I had regarding about termas after reading a nice report by StayAwayJoein in another thread. StayawayJoe, Thanks for the great report.
After reading about your experiences in the termas, it makes me think about my own experiences in the termas and about how much one's opinion of a termas depends upon chance. Especially for those of us that only have had the opportunity to visit Brazil a few times. If one is able to meet a woman that you are compatiable then we describe that termas in extremely favorable terms otherwise we come away with a negative experience & advise others to avoid that termas. After all there are so many termas & so little time.
Personally I prefer to go into a termas, maybe have a couple of beers, scope out the women that are working & at my leisure pick out a women that I find attractive then motion her over, talk to her and then take the rest from there.
4x4 & Centaurus are the 2 that I think vary the most (at least for myself). These 2 termas are 2 of the highest volume termas in Rio (ie most girls & most guys). These 2 termas are normally extremely busy so one doesn't have to opportunity to leisurely decide who you want to meet. In fact, in both of these termas one also has the problem of some of the girls getting overly aggresive - ie they won't go away when you politely tell them that you aren't interested in talking to them. When I go into both of these termas & luck out and hook up with a woman that I like then I love 4x4 & Centaurus but on several occasions I've decided that I can't take the harassment so I just leave. But one also can find some of the best looking women that you have every seen in your life in these 2 termas so it also can be very easy to leave these 2 termas with a grand smile on your face.
I've tried to beat the crowd at 4x4 & Centaurus but this hasn't worked out either. I arrived at Centaurus shortly after opening time (4pm) ; but the place remained girlless (relatively speaking) until 6pm whereupon the place filled up with girls & guys in less than 10 minutes.
Solarium consistently has been my favorite termas - I'm not sure that I've ever had a bad experience here. Moderately sized so you're never overwelled like 4x4/Centaurus. Many of these women have previously worked at other termas, are slightly older here but are still very good looking. I haven't meet a women in here that is overly pushy like in Centaurus or 4x4.
I also really like Rio Antigo - this place has been recently entirely renovated from top to bottom (the bar, A/C is electronically controlled, all the cabines, etc). Moderately sized so you're never overwelled like 4x4/Centaurus.
Aeroporto - This termas had a reputation of being a place that had the best looking in Rio but this clearly is not true now. The women in Aeroporto seem to all be very pretty but they are the only women in Rio that are overweight (granted they probably are only 15-20 pounds overweight). If they would put a couple of threadmills in there & make the women use them, it would be a great place to go to. I do like the bar at Aeroporto.
I went into Termas 65 once but I guess I got there too early as there were only 2 or 3 women/the place was totally empty. I couldn't understand why so many guys are crazy about the place. I guess timing is everything.
L'uomos - I only went here once & didn't like the place. I didn't find most of the girls particularly attractive but hey it only takes one to have a great experience. While I was waiting for the one to free up (she was busy), I keep being hit on by women that I wasn't interested in talking to & they wouldn't go away. I eventually walked from L'uomos. But I've meet a number of guys they really like L'uomos so I guess that makes my point about how the experience & your opinion can vary so much based on chance.
In any event, there are lots of termas in Rio. Termas are a great thing. If any of you guys have any termas experiences/memories, then post them under your favorite termas.

Some of the women in the Terma's are really interested in meeting people, and will not charge. I have one from Centarus that is going to meet me in Lima for a week. Of course, I have to buy the plane ticket to Lima, but there are no other charges. Of course, I will be paying the hotel, meals, etc. Just ask them for their cell phone number. They all have them. No telling what they will do if they like you. You mighg just ask them to go to an art mueseum during the day with you. Don't try to have sex with them. It the really like you, they will go, and enjoy the time. If they really like you, the sex will follow at no cost.

Canonperdido,
I agree with you, that if the girl likes you, you can have her for nothing, well almost, nothing, you are still paying for everything else, like on a date, food, hotel, etc, but you wont have to pay for sex by the hour. I have a few girls in Salvador with this arrangement.
And yes WEBFOOT, That's right

I have to confess that I have become addicted to Rio termas music. I kept asking a garota at L'Uomo what the name of the songs were or who the groups were so that I could buy the cds (music cds are very cheap in Brazil in comparison to American prices: 15 reals). Finally, she asked the DJ to burn me a cd of the songs he played. Great cd of Brazilian music. I could list the songs, but they are all in Portuguese. You'd all recognize them if you heard them. Of course, the termas play American music too. Of the termas music you recognize, what are your top 5 favorite songs or which do you hear the most?
By Stayawayjoe on Tuesday, November 13, 2001 - 09:32 pm: Edit |
Please go ahead and list them. Two of my favorites are: Rebola by Than and Esperando na Janela by Gilberto Gil.
By Bobobebe on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 - 06:51 am: Edit |
I have to preface the list by pointing out that L'Uomo plays the widest range of Brazilian music of all the termas: from soft popular music to the more typical samba and hip/hop-funk-techno-type music. On Friday and Saturday nights L'Uomo has live music with the singer/musician duo doing mostly Brazilian oldies but goodies. Instead of garotas lining up to shake their bundas, you're more likely to see garotas looking for dancing partners with whom to dance arm-in-arm. By the way, I'm disappointed that most of you haven't mentioned L'Uomo in your termas sojourns. On second thought, stay-the-hell-away: no pun intended -- I know you've been there :-). When I was there in September and October, it was much better than Monte Carlo and equal to the downtown termas in quality though, on average, the garotas are older -- but they know what they are doing, or should I say, they know their business. Of course, it doesn't have the quantity of the downtown termas. Admittedly, June and July were definitely bad months, but these estimations are all subject to the obvious business and seasonal cycles, not to mention our falible subjectivity. L'Uomo does have the friskiest women in Rio. Saturday is free feijoada night, and garotas tell me that many Brasileiros come to eat the free feijoada and then try to get free make-out sessions without fucky-fucky. I can see why the Brasileiros come here to get freebie make-outs. The women here seem to have the highest tolerance level for that sort of stuff. Many are annoyed at it but some seem to enjoy the flirtatious atmosphere.
Oh, the list. If you've ever been to L'Uomo, you will recognize the playlist. This is a copy of the cd that the DJ plays at some point (if not, twice or thrice) during the day/evening. The first half is the softer stuff; the second half is hip/hop-funk-techno music. I'm having a really hard time reading the the DJ's writing, so there will be a lot of blanks and errors in the transcription. Quite frankly, most of it is illegible to me. Possibly, a Brasileiro might have no problem reading it.
1. Colo de Menina - Rasta Pe
2- No can descipher.
3. Menina Mulhere - can't make it out
4-9 Can't read them.
10. Desce e Sobe - Bondo do Vinho
11. No can read.
12. Toma, Toma - Bonde do Vinho
13-14. No dice.
15. This must be the Brazilian version of "Who Let the Dogs Out."
16. I Feel Vinho - Bonde do Vinho
17-20. I'm going blind.
Sorry to disappoint you, after all the build-up. I'm quite disappointed, myself. It's quite a pathetic rendering of the list. But you'd recognize them, if you heard them.

Dropped in last night, since it is a short walk from my present hotel. All the garotas were young, the oldest was maybe 25. It's my first terma visit, so I can't compare (yet). The place seems kinda small, and there were no public displays, just a discrete hand beneath the robe. Found this exotic beauty from Belem, dark morena with an incredible face and trim body, said she was 21 and I had no reason to doubt it (sorry, forgot her name).
The boite was dominated by a bunch of young cariocos who seemed to we white-collar professionals having some sort of party: they were about 6 of them and they were monopolizing the girls, but I don't think any of them (or maybe one) actually went to the cabina. I felt sorry for the girls, as they hade to make their $$. I was also put off because they had the one I first had my eye on, then left her hanging.

When I've been in termas-heaven in the past, the downtown termas tend to be closed during holidays (damn, there are so many of them), because the business crowd is gone. However, the other termas were open. In my experience, the only exception was New Years Eve and New Years Day. All termas were closed. Consequently, the downtown termas might be closed during Carnaval, a holiday. We will all wait for your eyewitness Caranaval report.
Muito obrigado for building the Brazil section and for being default moderator.

My attack plan is 1) take lots of phone #s, 2) head for the downtown termas, 3) if the downtown termas are closed then take some hostages and hole up at Solarium.
I don't know much about Carnaval but I promise to keep y'all posted. It sounds like it will be a blast.

YoungTom: Were the Copacabana termas closed during Carnaval, like the downtown ones were? Which ones were open? Obrigado.

L'uomos and MC were open Monday and Tuesday. Solarium closed Monday/Tues & re-opened on Wednesday (I opened & closed it yesterday - too much fun). I'm not sure what the scoop was with Centaurus but I assumed that it was closed Monday/Tuesday. I asked at Termas 65 and they were closed Mon-Wed; I assumed same would be true for rest of downtown termas.

The phone numbers in the list at the top are all wrong. Any additional digit was added to all Rio phone numbers a while back. Check their web sights if you need to call them.

YT, I found that out when I tried to call during New Years.Even without the phone numbers I found it invaluable when I brought my copy of it with me in Rio.Just having the addresses was very helpful with the cabs. Many thanks.

What's the policy on tipping at the terma's?
Only previous experience is in Thailand, where it's expected.
Only two more days and I'm off!!
