I was in 4x4 for the first time in a few months yesterday and the talent in quantity and quality was awesome. I counted 10 girls I wanted. Unfortunately I am "owned" there but I did manage to got get a few phone numbers. Highly recommended right now.

There are antibody tests that work without an outbreak, including one (POCKit) that was available until last year which gave results in 10 minutes. You are right that the most common test is culture-based during an outbreak.

Herpes is epidemic; extremely widespread, especially amongst sex workers. Probably 1/2 the guys on this board have herpes, many being almost totally asymptomatic. Condoms provide moderate protection, but if any uncovered part of your skin comes in contact with the virus, you can be easily infected. You are more vulnerable when your partner is having an outbreak (actively shedding the virus), so if you see sores, you might want to pass.

What are your opinions on telling the girls when we have a suspicion of something like this? I know there's no easy way to do it, but I would like to think if I did notice something like that, and was absolutley certain I was right, I would tell her. Bwana_dik is right about the prevalence of herpes. The majority of the US adult population carry HSV-1 (mostly oral herpes). However, only 20% carry the more serious virus HSV-2 (mostly genital herpes). The percentage is likely to be higher for hobbyists and providers.

BTW, unless Maverick is (medically) certain that this was herpes, there is a possibility it was some type of genital warts (HPV). The reason I am raising this possibility is that herpes outbreaks are known to be painful in most cases, so it is unlikely that the girl didn't notice that she had an outbreak, or noticed but decided to work anyway without attempting to conceal it.

If this discussion continues for much longer, I'll ask Hombre to move it to a Health thread.

OK this is my last post on the subject: I know the difference between genital warts and herpes blisters. Kelly had a fully developed herpes cluster that must have hurt- but she didn't seem to think twice about putting her ass right in front of my face.
