Newbie questions for Rio Vets,

I've done TJ, I've done SEA, and now it's time for me to do a quick "recon" (or "bombing") mission to Rio (the Memorial Day weekend). A little help here please:

(1) I assume 4x4 and 65 are the closest termas to GIG -- how long a cab ride is it from 4x4 to the airport in the evening? (For my getaway day!)

(2) What is the departure tax at GIG, if there is one (so I have some reais in my pocket)?

(3) Where is the closest ATM machine from Hotel Debret located (Star, Plus or Interlink)?

(4) I've read posts recommending taking a cab from Help to Hotel Debret (2 blocks?) late at night. Did I read that right? Wouldn't I be better off just staying near Monte Carlo or L'oumo?

Thanks in advance, and hopefully I'll run into some of you guys when I'm down there.

1) GIG is outside the city so just count on 30 min to get there. Does not really matter where you last terma run is.
2) I have never paid a departure tax as i think it should be included in your ticket but i did see a sign the other day like R$100 but I was waived through.
3) Go 1 block inland on Ave Senhora Nossa Copacabana, to your right or left, several banks ATM. Not sure if open at night.
4) Debret is fine if you party at Help at night, walk middle of the sidewalk but it is a long walk like 3 min. Take a taxi if very late after 3:00 am. Monte Carlo is a good 10 min walk to Help about 9 blocks, short cab ride.

Departure Tax depends on your airline, I flew on United and never paid once I think American is the same way. The fee is included in your airfare, that's why it's about $90USD in taxes from united.
Only once I paid leaving brazil and that was flying into argentina, using aerolinas argentina, those fuckers always try to milk you for everything thinking you had a fair prices because they dont include the departures taxes for both countries.
About the ATM I think they all close at 10pm, But your better going to citibank(next to Blockbuster Video on Rua Fig. Magalhaes@ copacabana ave.) because I always have a hard time getting Reals out of the brazilian banks. Bradesco, I was lucky a few times with, but they'll give you a lower rate and the most you can withdraw is $R600 a time.
Two of my buddies were charged with double transactions at Bradesco ATM (what else is new in Rio)

Thermas, it dont matter, they all hold your luggage...

HBSC bank (I think that is right) is OK. The reciept does not give the exchage rate but i was able to pull out 700-1000R each time and it was closer to where i was staying than Citibank. Citi is the best bet depending on where you are staying and if you want to make the walk.

Not me, I was rejected at HSBC and I tried with two different ATM cards. The most I saw for withdraw was $R600.
Citibank is the best in copa and I just make effort to go there. Just dont waste time and pull out what you can. R$1000X2

Help was giving the best rate around town on the dollar in mid april. They were giving out R$3.20 to 1 while the citibank rate was at R$3.05

Oct is great in Rio. Low season with plenty of desperate garotas. I was extremely disapointed in SP with too many avg looking garotas and too many cbjs. I finally corrected my problem and am getting great values at all the termas. I must be spending too much time in the US as imho selection is awesome and services out of this world in all termas.
Help believe it or not has the best selection, you can find incredible bodies but unfortunately after terma services I just cannot lower my expectations at Help.
Only negative right now is terma girls work at Help only toward the end of the week. Also do not go to 4x4 on mon as place is dead with the bottom tier girls.
Best terma is Solarium, Monte Carlo, 4x4, 65, Centaurus then Luomo.
I got my worse session ever in Luomo and one of my best session ever at Monte carlo so all in all Rio always rocks.
I do not know who the best looking girls is between Milena, Taina at 65, Sylvia at Solarium. Solarium during the week is a sight to behold, you feel like you´re in a harem. I got my sight on Amanda who just started on mon and her friend who is also 18...and that strawberry blonde with big tits ...

For mulattas only, go to 502, R$10 entrance, I think R$50 range for session.
For hit and run, go to Help, terrace and Barbarella, I skipped all of them.

Never stepped inside Help, but spent a few evenings hanging out at the Terraço, and there were plenty of attractive women working the crowds. Of course, there were also some of the most butt-ugly creatures on earth working the crowd. The amazing thing is those butt-ugly, wouldn't-touch-with-a-10-foot-stick women occasionally find clients. Different strokes for different folks.

Terma 502 is 1 street north of Buenos Aires (where 4x4 is), located on rua Alfandega. Right by Rua Branco but other side. The R$10 cover includes drinks. They also have specials, while i was there dupla was the night special for R$80. Garotas seemed to have good attitude, 100% locals clientele.

I found a couple of stunners at 502 last week. Numbers are smaller and quality more varied, but the best are great, and they all work hard for your money. Very much a local scene, as Athos says. There's a brief writeup of 502 and some of the other budget termas in my Rio guide.
