If the Scalet Club wasn't so far from Miraflores, it would probably easily be a favorite. Still, it was a great place that I will be returning to again in the future. If I lived in Lima, it would probably be one of my favorite hangouts.

Scarlet is located in Los Olivos, a district northeast of Callao (where the international airport is located). Hot-peru.com lists the area as Infantes Industriales(a subjsection perhaps?), but my map and cab driver indicate Los Olivos. Make sure your cab driver knows where it is, although I find they'll occasionally lie for your fare. My driver said he knew, but we spent at least 20 extra minutes driving looking for the place and only found it with the assistance of 3 people we found on the street. (About the only 3 people we saw out that night in the area). If you have the Lima Guia 2000 book I posted about, you may want to bring it. Having the phone number and a cellphone handy may also be a good idea just in case. I may also make up a map specifically for Scarlet since it's a great place that may be hard to find.

From Miraflores it's at least a 40 minute drive and will likely run you 30 soles ($9 US) each way. The one night I went, there were no taxis out front and nothing appeared open remotely close, so it's probably necessary to have the cab driver wait for you.

I think the cover was about 20 soles, about $6 US. They are strict on cameras with signs forbidding them and will check your cellphone if you have one. You'll need to check it and they will give you a receipt to claim it. I probably could have my Exislim in, but as strict as they seemed I wouldn't recommend chancing it. If you must get a picture of a lady here I would recommend setting up an outdate.

Upon entering you'll face the small bar with the restrooms to the right. The room opens up to the left with plenty of tables and seats scattered around. A stage for shows runs along the left wall.

A set of large and simple short time rooms are available down a hall. You'll have to pay an inclusive fee for the lady and use of the room at a booth. The driver was telling me the fee was 40 soles ($12 US), but my companion and lady at the booth quoted me 60 soles ($18 US). It's possible I got quoted high as a foreignor, but I had the feeling my driver's knowledge may have been dated. Either way, it was still a bargain considering the talent level. I saw one of the most attractive ladies of my trip here, but hesitated and missed an opportunity with her. The one I ended up with wasn't as attractive, but provided an excellent session.

I'm not sure if takeout is available, but I'd assume it is for an extra fee.

Besides being a nice club with a good selection of ladies, there were two other things I really liked about this place, it's open 24 hours a day and open on Sundays (uncommen in Lima).

When I return, my strategy here will be to get a few phone numbers before attempting takeout to my hotel.

Cons: Very far and relatively expensive cab ride

Update. Scarlet actually consists of two clubs in the same building. The cover charge is good for both.

The club directly ahead has a large stage and a better setup for shows which run fairly often. A balcony level allows for an alternative view of the shows when the floor level fills which can happen relatively quickly. Some of the show dancers can be gorgeous, but unfortunately not all that dance are available, waiters can tell you if they are or not. This area is closed on slower nights.

Most if not all of the ladies in the club to the right should be available. This area is better suited for casual seating and conversation. There is also a floor level stage with shows here, but there is less focus on it than the other club.

It doesn't appear on the map, but according to the business card, "Ovalo Naranjal" is at the intersection of Av. Panamericana Norte and Av. Naranjal. The card doesn't list operating hours. I was originally told the place was 24 hours, but on my more recent trip was told they were only open in the evening. Best to call before heading over in the day, it's a long, expensive drive.

There are some upscale clubs in Lima that have beautiful women available (both on-site and for take out) that run in the $100-$200 range, when all was said and done. Those clubs are all clean, shiny, safe, air conditioned, and expensive (the cover at most of them is 50 Soles). These places advertise towards (among others) the tourist trade. Many of the taxi drivers that work where tourists can be found are always touting these clubs, and with good reason. These clubs charge big bucks, and they pay big commissions to the drivers.

Club Scarlets is all that, without the big prices, the commissions, and the tourists. Yet again, I got to be the only non-Peruvian in the place, but it didn't really matter here.

The outside of the club is big and shiny, as befits a 'Gentleman's Club'. You enter, pay your 25 Sol ($7.58) cover charge, and after you get frisked and your valuables are held for you, you have a choice of entering the room on the right, or going straight ahead to the main room (you can freely move back and forth between the two).

When we arrived, only the room on the right had a show going on (the main room opens at 12:30). The smaller room (it wasn't all that small) has a bar along the left wall, and on the right side are a bunch of tables surrounding the stage. A very pretty girl was stripping when we entered. The girls do two-song sets, topless during the second song, and totally naked only for the last few seconds.

The drinks came to our table, and I got the low-down on what goes on at Scarlets. I was originally told that there were two levels of girls: the ones who danced and the ones that just hung in the bar. The price on the 'dancing' girls was US $100 plus 40 Soles for use of the room (I think - don't quote me on the room charge) for 40 minutes. Now, the girl on stage was beautiful, but not $115 worth of beautiful, considering what I have seen and done in Lima previously. The non-dancing girls were where, to me, the action seemed to be. These girls ranged from pretty to very pretty (and not a gordita in the house), and all of them could be had for 80 Soles ($24.24) for a half hour. I see why this place is popular. I think that the guy that explained all this to me said that there was a third option, but the music was loud and he was talking rapidly in Spanish, so I didn't make that part out.

We watched three or four girls dance, and then it was 12:30, so we moved to the main room. That room is real large, with lots of tables facing the big main stage at the far end of the room. The bar was on the left in the back of the room, and there were stairs leading to the upper area, which seemed to be just more seating, if the place gets crowded.

After a bit, I got restless, so one of the guys and I walked around both rooms, where we ran into Jikaru and Cindy. The were both in the 19-to 21-year old range, the spinner-type that I usually wind up with everywhere I go. The other guy knew Jikaru from a previous encounter, and signaled me that she was a good date. With that in mind, I took an immediate liking to Jikaru, and since she seemed attached at the hip to Cindy, I invited them both back to the table to join us for a drink.

We get to the table and the girls immediately order slushy drinks with umbrellas and cherries in them - probably the most expensive thing on the menu. When the waiter brings the drinks, he also gives the girls a ficha (a ticket that they turn in later that night for a kickback on the drink price). The drinks were 30 Soles each ($9), so I didn't get hit all that hard. We spent the next few minutes watching the strippers and me getting in my $18 worth of fondling. When their drinks were gone, they asked me for another one, and I said maybe later, let's go upstairs. "Which one?," they asked. Thinking, "Hell, I have $50,", I went against my better judgment, and said, "Both of you. Let's go."

We go up some stairs, parade past some rooms, go down another hall, and around somewhere else until we get to a reception desk. The girls unsuccessfully try to upsell me to one hour, and the lady behind the desk asks me for 166 Soles and gives us two towels, to bars of soap, and two towels. I didn't ask what the extra 6 soles was for. We went on our way through more of a labyrinth until we reached a room that looked exactly like the other 50 that we had walked past.

The room had a nice sized, clean bed, and a bathroom with a shower. Much nicer than the rooms I had seen the last few days, and two steps up from the hotel above Adelita Bar in Tijuana, and one step up from the rooms at Club IDEM in San Jose.

When we were finished, Jikaru walked me back through the maze, back to where my friends were watching the show.

And what a show it was. Instead of strippers, when I got back to my ringside seat, one of our guys was up on stage, participating in a condom inflating contest. The hostess was some pretty, tall blonde with a huge rack, and she had the entire audience laughing along with the contest. Our guy lost, but he returned to the table a hero in our eyes!

For the next couple of hours, we were treated to a full-blown show. Between the occasional stripper, we were treated to some complete production dance numbers, featuring three or four dancing girls and three dancing boys, all outfitted with many costumes, and costume changes. There was a comedy skit involving a midget, some fat guy in a big black afro wig, and a pretty girl. Tarzan made an appearance as well. All in all, pretty entertaining.

When I mentioned to my friends that I was impressed that they got the strippers to participate in such elaborate shows, they explained to me that these weren't strippers, but that the club hired the entertainers to put on the show. And further, the smoking blonde with the huge rack was a Peruvian TV star. That led to some questions:

RTG: Then the girls in the show aren't available to go upstairs?
AMIGO: I didn't say that. Of course they are. They're not the regular girls here, so if you want one, it will cost more.
RTG: How much more?
AMIGO: The girls in the show are $200, plus 40 Soles for the room, too. Which one do you want?
RTG: Er, none of them. I was just curious. Even the smoking blonde host?
AMIGO: Of course not. She's a famous TV star. If you want her, it will run you $400. Should I set it up for you?
RTG: Um, no thanks. I don't watch television.

The show went on to about 4 in the morning. Once I knew that the hostess was famosa, it made the audience participation bits all that much funnier, because I now understood why all the guys were in awe of the blonde girl.

The show ends, and the club is still really crowded. There's still steady traffic of guys and girls going off together, but it was a long day, and we were dragging.

Good value for sessions. Usually find 1 or 2 gems. One of the prettiest latinas I´ve seen was at this club & the sex was gfe. I negotiate 25 soles taxi ride from Miraflores to Scarlet.

Just wanted to add to all the above, visited Scarlett´s last night, very nice facilities, felt like I was in an upscale mens club in the States.
Several excellent girls to choose from, and very reasonable on all prices, drinks, etc.....
The only negative was the lengthy taxi ride.

RT here. We stopped by Scarlets Saturday, 17 May, after checking out Anaconda.

We arrived just before midnight. Just the small room was open; they told us the show (and the big room) would get going in about a half hour. The ad in the paper that day promised Maribel Velarde as the headliner.

We left at 1:30; still no show nor any movement towards the larger room. A couple of the girls told me that the crowd wasn't big enough, I don't know.

The strippers were beautiful (as always), and there was an excellent and ample selection of girls milling about the club. If you can't find a body style and look that you like, well, you're just not looking.

The hustle for drinks was a little stronger than I remember, though the lack of customers might have fueled the ficha frenzy. Guys' drinks were dirt cheap (5 Soles for a water), but drinks for the girls were 30 Soles (one girl told me that she got 20 of the 30, and I guess that a girl needs to make a living).

I didn't sample any of the ladies that night, as I had a date coming over at 10:00 am the next morning and I was on strict leche management at that point. However, there were many, many girls that I would gladly drop 83 Soles to be with in the club that night.

Entrada is 25 Soles. A taxi from Miraflores should run 25 as well, and the posted price back to Miraflores is also 25 Soles, but you sometimes get gringo taxed by the cabs outside Scarlets and held up for 30 or 35. Me, when I go there, I hire a driver for the night.

Nasty -- was it that tiny spinner? she was a darling! She dances, so that's part of the higher price. But what a body on that girl! If all Dominicans were like her, I would have never quit working in Santo Domingo!

My opinion is really mixed about this place. First, it is a pain in the ass to get to this club because Lima is so enormous. Second, the lighting is really bad, so it sometimes takes a while to see just how a girl really looks. Third, I've had quite a range of mixed experiences from various girls. Some girls are top notch. Some girls are absolutely horrible. Fourth, very often, the girl you want might be tied up with another customer for hours and hours.

In terms of chica quality, it's mixed as well. Considering the price, it's understandable though. I personally haven't seen any girls I'd rate higher than a 7, but that could just be me. Beautiful girls know they can work at the top clubs in Lima and make money off rich gringos.

If you can speak Spanish, it helps immensely. Part of the Scarlet experience is hanging out with the girls before taking them up to a room. You will not find any english speaking girls at this club.

I do like the club atmosphere and the ease that having good onsite rooms provides. You can also use a credit card to pay for everything, if you don't want to carry around a wad of cash. Drinks for customers are prices as they are in normal restaurants, so it's not a big deal to just hang out for hours.
