If you're thinking of visiting Centaurus, be aware it can be a ripoff--and worse. I went there in December, only because my cousin and his boss were going and it was a rare opportunity to socialize (plus, the boss offered to pay part of the tab). I was almost immediately cornered by these two garotas, a blond named Adriana or something, and a darker beauty with very long (fake) hair and a great body. They were very affectionate and playful, and I though, what the hell. It was early and they were among the better looking ones, and my Portuguese was beginner level. We were having fun. They sent me down to the front desk to pay, and the hour they got me hot for cost me R$820 on my credit card! Went to Centaurus last night and luckily the front desk lady I knew was was working so I tipped her 10R and she let me and my friends in without paying upfront and charging tourist fee at the end. From having just gone to Lúomo and Monte Carlo and now to Centaraus...I must say that I pretty much like the selection here at Centaurus. There are good looking girls in there – The only place in Rio that I ended up liking.

The uniforms. I like that the girls are wearing very hot, very cute uniforms and they are all the same with the exception of color. It really helps to be able to judge and compare and decide which ones you like.

The black lights. I like the way the black lights work with the uniforms.

The behavior of the girls. They donīt sit around like bumps on logs. They stand, walk, dance, smile and fix their hair. This is really better than some other places where they sit down a lot and you canīt check them out enough to know if they appeal to you.

The girls are generally pretty happy and positive.

---What I don`t like---

The front desk staff is rude, rude, rude. Compare them to Solarium staff – it is possible to be nice. (The rest of the people in Centaurus are great, cool and nice.)

Random drinks can be charged to your bill. Check the bill each time and once in a while you`ll find stuff you never ordered.

Once you agree to go with a girl she goes to a phone and reserves a room. The clock starts at that point. You then go upstairs with her and she gives you the room key (you already have your locker key on your wrist at this point...). You then sit there in the room for about 8-10 minutes on average while she changes and cleans up. This is standard I know but it still sucks that you are paying for this time. This is a good time for you to go back downstairs and used the bathroom or chat with a friend for 5 minutes. Whatever you do don`t tell the girl that you are going to the bathroom right when she hangs up the phone or else she will wait for you and even more time will be wasted.

That they close at midnight on Saturdays...should be noted by the Hombre webmaster on the info page.

There are no phones or clocks in the rooms in Centaurus.

Glad you have good experiences with the staff because I have always found the sauna attendants to have real attitudes. They make it appear it is a great effort to get off their asses if you ask for a towel, toothbrush etc.

But, I hate the idea of a tourist tax and getting charged a higher price than locals. It's more the principle than the cost. Just pisses me off. I also don't like being assigned a garata at the beginning that I have to ditch if I don't like. For the first time ever, Centaurus lived up to its reputation in terms of selection. Took me 5 min to pick up Joana (Ho Ha na), perfect 10, first week on the program. But dang Juliana is a 9, she'd be a 10 with bigger chest. Some of the old selection still there but easily 6 new hotties in the mix.

A report on Centaurus, Feb 04

I walked there at 3:45 PM, from Hotel Debret (a very nice hotel that allows guests for $21, however, they call to kick your girl out at 6AM, however, I was able to convince them to allow my guests to stay in Portuguese). It took me about ten minutes to walk there, however, I would NOT RECOMMEND WALKING THERE AT NIGHT. The walk passes within a block or two of a favela entrance and at night the area a block off Avenida Atlantica near Hotel Debret is very, very dangerous. The immediate few blocks surrounding Centaraus (border of Ipanema and Aprador)are actually quite nice and safe, day or night. I wanted to get there at 4 PM, when they opened in order to beat the after work rush. In typical Brazilian fashion, they opened about ten minutes late. When I walked in, there were two other Americans going in as well. Centaurus is located in a non-descript location on Rua Canning in a nice residential area (good thing Brazilians don't have zoning laws like the US). I had heard that there is an extra fee for foreigners and that you have to pay up front. That was not the case. I had also heard that you are assigned a girl to help you change into your robe and give you a tour, and that sometimes there are better girls in the club and you may want to ditch your tour guide. I lucked out. I could not have imagined a better guide, her name was Luciana, a 20 year old Brazilian of Italian heritage. She had blonde hair, green eyes, medium size implants, a great tail, beautiful face, overall, a very, very solid 10, even for Brazilian standards. As it was, I lucked out being the first one there, she must have been the top girl on duty as I later surveyed the boite (bar area). After I changed into a robe, I went downstairs to the shower area without my guide. The shower area, along with steam and sauna are located in the basement as I recall. The facilities were very third world compared to other termas I have been to. Cent's prices are too high and facilities are rather ordinary, but the talent is consistently high. Wouldn't want to go there every night, but there seems to always be a few model-types among the fold. All said and done, under US100 ain't too bad once or twice per trip considering the quality.

The deal breaker from my point of view is not the high price or the gringo tax. It is the requirement to pay for a session in advance with no refund if you choose not to session. What if you didn't find someone to your liking that day, or you couldn't reach an agreement about services, or the wait for a room was too long for your taste?

After spending several hours there this dude did not do a session and as we are paying the bills we talked them into not charging him for not doing a session. He walked out only paying the entrance fee and drinks. It can still be done.

What? the clock runs while the girl cleans the room? Maybe it is a trick of the girls, to waste time setting up the room. It should take about 27 seconds to put up a bedsheet. Otherwise, something is wrong. If she takes too long, you should call reception to announce that only now she is finished setting up the room and you want to start time to count from now on.

The on foot thing will work if you know what your doing and negotiate at the desk. They will try to say everyone pays it. Then once they know you (assuming you are tipping), they will waive off the taxi drivers because they are not going to pay them commission.

BS--there is not a clock at Centaurus. No phone in the room. The "clock" starts and stops when the girl says it does. So a 40 minute cabine session can go anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours. Like it or not, thats how it is. So--having said that, paying for a 1 hour session would be a complete waste of money. The session will still end when the girl says it ends. So if you want extra time, make sure she is having fun.

Some of the girls set a timer, which they bring along with them to the room.

I have never seen the timer but would prefer to have it. I want the full 40 min available to me, and no more. I have an internal session clock, and it is pretty much set at 40 min. Anything less than that disrupts my rhythm.
