I will go in depth about one of my favorite places in SP: Cafe Millenium. This boate advertises itself as "Your Night in the First World" and the facilities don't disappoint. As you enter you'll find yourself in a very clean, very modern multi-storied building with a bar, restaurant, pool, beautiful suites, DJ, and other amenities. You get a card where all purchases are registered, and you pay at the end of your "stay."

To the women...the garotas here mostly live in the premises, and get shipped to the complex either from Connection (the other boate owned by the owner of Millenium) or recruited from other states. Typically, you'll find anywhere from 20 to 60 girls working, and I believe the program is about 150R for an hour. They don't really keep track of time too much, since the place is WAY to big for current client traffic levels. As a result, you'll get nice service from the manager, and there will never be a line for a suite or to get drinks. This place is basically trying to replicate Bahamas' money-making potential, but unfortunately, they are not in a convenient location and there aren't as many "freelance" girls who drop by.

The sheer size of the place makes it a bit sterile. I went by myself a few times, and felt a little lonely.

Why do I still like the place? The meninas of course! The first time I was there I met a girl from Belo Horizonte, literally straight off the bus. Connection has a web site for directions, it is located in Tatuape and is an American Bar. Now you have to be careful as many girls are cbj so interviewing is necessary, but i have had cbj too at Bomboa.

I was in Cafe M last nite. Entrance fee is 70R per person, which is also your minimum consumption fee. Meaning you can drink, eat, smoke for free up to your 70R entrance fee.

I feel safe in SP as I take the metro and walk during the day but at night, only taxi and walking at most to garota's car. Walking early evening during commute to Paulista is very safe.

Let me summarize (from memory) the dozens of posts in the gpguia thread on the subject.

About 10 days ago, a gang of 11 guys assaulted Cafe Millenium invasion style late at night, robbed the clients and the girls of money, jewelry, etc., and shot dead a Brazilian client in his 20s whom they perceived as resisting the assault. They escaped in cars one of which crashed as it was chased by the police, and 4 gangsters were captured while the others escaped. Police suspect an insider's help in the operation.

What caught my attention the most is the tone of the commentaries. While there is concern and sorrow for the guy who died, you get the distinct impression that this level of violence is business as usual in SP. The security and entrance checks at Cafe Millenium were criticized/ridiculed by many.

Interestingly, The murdered guy's fiancee blamed his friends for taking him there, and people commented that it is good that she is able to rationalize that way.

All I can say is I'm glad I wasn't there. Around 10 days ago I was thinking of going there, but ended up going somewhere else. This makes the whole thing a little too close to home.
