Also in the Old Town area (within the forte) is a great bar/disco with a good number of freelancers later in the night, after 11 pm or midnight. Fully stocked bar with TVs and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

My favorite bar in Cartagena, the upstairs is tiny but has that Cartagena feel to it. While there are some freelancers, many of the girls view this bar as a safe place to take there clients and relax or go when they are off to drink, dance and just have fun. In there minds this place is classified as a Disco and not a bar as compared to LDV which is classified as a bar (girls go there to freelance)

looking weak these days talentwise. ratio...way more men than women.

Perhaps sometimes a decent place to meet non-pros. went there with a date, and one of the cutest non-pro looking girls there dancing with another guy stopped to flirt with me.

Was there on Thursday. Had what seemed to be about 10 chicas and about 50 dudes Packed in this little bar. 10K entrance which included one drink. Bunch of touts, vendors, etc outside so never made it down to La Tripletera nor Giro Matto but assuming similar?

the courtyard in front of this clubs is considered somewhat dangerous. lots of muggings supposedly occur out there at night. outside the wall, it's even worse.

I have lived in Cartagena for over 3 years. The Plaza de los Coches in front of Tu Candela by the Clock Tower is not dangerous at all. I have never heard of a mugging in the Plaza. This is a well-traveled area with good police and military presence.

South of the Clock Tower one block is Getsemani. That area is a bit iffy after 10:00 pm. Calle Media Luna about 3 blocks from the Clock Tower has a lot of street girls at night, but that area is not for the inexperienced. I walked Media Luna one night around 10:30 with a couple of buddies. We bought tintos from a street vendor, and he told us to get the fuck out of there.

I walked in front of it several times (rather buzzed) in my rookie trip...did not feel/look all that bad.

But Tu Candela was sucky when I was there...

When I am in Ctg, I live in the Plaza De Los Coches, where Tu Candela is, on and off for 5 years now, there is certainly the possibility of being mugged as anywhere in Ctg, but not heard of anybody.

As tomtom33 says outside the wall from the clock tower increases the odds, but only slightly.

Occasionaly I see the odd homeless person fighting another etc, I just watch the action.

Hunter, any recs on where to stay at the Plaza?

thanks for clearing that up. prior to going i read i believe on tsm that there were reports for mugging in that plaza. Then when i was there, a couple of taxi drivers warned me about the dangers just outside the walls from there. Thus, i never wandered around the area late at night 2nd to the warnings, plus i didn't see any need to.

Concarne, I am only aware of one apt for rent in the Plaza and that is where I stay normally when I am in Ctg.

Socrates69, I have posted on TSM for people to be aware of their surroundings if they are walking from the clock tower to the arsenal street with all the discos on it, I can't recall any other posts about muggings, but I don't read eveything.

There are muggings in Getsemeni, which the above walk takes you through the edge of. You shouldn't walk around Getsemeni at night and off the main roads be aware of your surroundings in the day time in this area. The area is getting better, but still has a long way to go to be safe as most of Centro is.

On to Tu Candela, I was there on Saturday night for just over two hours, the place was packed, I guess that I saw about 30 available girls when I was there, the available girls were mostly have been hookers and some semi-pros or ordinary girls.

went there last night and had a lot of fun. brought a girl but there were freelancers there. everyone is on the second floor which was very crowded. if you are going to drink hard liqour in colombia it is good to get a bottle. it is cheaper to drink Aguardiente or rum. they also smiroff and absolute which cost more.

People go to Electra after the other places close. it is full of freelancers and you can eat pizza there. there is an outside area there. you can walk to Electra. There are people in the streets selling stuff and asking for money but it is safe.
