Unless the exchange rate turns for the better, my days of hitting Luomo/Monte Carlo/Solarium are over. As Cortogringo said the other night, these three T's are making Centaurus look better, since it's only R290 over there for entry and a 40-minute run.

I somehow doubt if the Centro termas will jack prices up too badly. The Zona Sul termas know that tourists usually don't care that much about price and have no clue about such things anyway. So, for me, I'll stick to the places in Centro Mon-Fri and hit the lesser-known places on the weekends.

Even if the exchange rate does turn up, I'm still pissed as shit about Luomo. Newbie mongers, Don and fond memories from more than a year ago kept this place on the radar during the past year. By all other matters of quality, L would have turned into the Copa equivelent of Rio Antigo or Aeroporto by now. Everyone knows that prices go up about once a year, but a 20% hike? On Thanksgiving day, when planeloads of gringo mongers are descending on the place? Fuck it, I'll head elsewhere.

The downtown termas will probably keep their prices fairly stable because of the predominance of Brasilian patrons (especially after 5:00PM). If C doesn't follow suit with it's Zona Sul counterparts, I see a significant shift in mind share to C. If L, S and MC persist in fucking gringos then they may follow the same demise as Aeroperto...poor Don may have to turn in his monogramed robe at L!

Either way, if the Zona Sul Termas keep this kinda shit up, wise and seasoned mongers will start going elsewhere for their fun and the better girls will have moved on to "greener$$$$" pastures long before their doors are closed.

OK. slight change on the strategy plan. Walk in with 20 guys, pay the entry fee but refuse to session. Have only one drink (and make it water)then leave...all at once! The girls will scream bloddy murder to management. Maybe then they will listen.

Then again, they are Brasilians!!!!! They will look at 20 entrance fees in one day as a bonus!

Forget that idea and go back to the original plan. 20 in the front door and right back out grumbling about prices, repeated every day for a week or two. Maybe a baseball bat to the head would be easier.

Since most of the L price increase is on the girl's fee - now R150 - I guess P had to promise all the new talent more money per programma to recruit them. There is no denying that the L talent has gotten very high very fast - I think even you would be surprised at the current lineup. But, then again, entry and massage prices also went up 20%, so maybe not.

While it's always been the case somewhat, there seems to be a growing split between veterans and newbies on what Rio "is", if that's the right word. For example, on Saturday, we were in L and two American jerkoffs - white guys, in their 20's I would say - were running around the boite, with the belts from their robes tied around their heads and basically just dancing in their boxer shorts. Slightly odd behavior, not the worst I've seen but still, with the yelling in the relax room and whatnot, they seemed to be confusing a Brasilian termas with the Kappa Sig house at Penn State or something.

Bottom line - we're used to paying $75 US for a program, newbies have no qualms paying $125 US for a program. We generally know how not to be Ugly Americans around town, the newbies seem to care less.

Was hoping Sandman and Catocony and fellow hombres that spend a good portion of the year in Rio can share some insight into the following questions...

I'm under the impression that the Brazilians that visit termas can because they can afford it and a R$40 increase is not a big deal for them. On the other hand, the increase combined with the currency exchange rate had a bigger negative effect on hombres visiting from the States.

Do termas really get a steady stream of Americans all year round? I only get to see how busy the termas are during the time when there is a holiday in the states.

Do the termas depend more heavily on Americans or Brazilians for their business throughout the year?

Aeroporto charges 150R for their women. If Solarium and Monte Carlo don't charge 150R, they probably will soon raise their prices too. If you were a gdp, wouldn't you go where you could get the most money? The termas are in competition with each other for talent. 4x4 might raise their prices now too, but they have an extra hook -- they let women sleep in the cabines overnight, which can be important if they live a distance away. I find it interesting that most gdps don't seem to know what women get in other termas. Oftentimes, WE seem to know more than they do when it comes to prices.

Aeroporto is so bad most of us don't even think about going there. As far as prices, basic economics - if the increased price knocks down the number of programs, then they make less money. Two programs for 60 reals apiece is better than one at 75.

Solid-
The Copa termas DO get a steady stream of gringos year-round. Indeed, most locals avoid the Copa termas because 1) the prices are higher than in Centro and 2) the places are full of gringos. Centaurus is popular with the Ipanema elite, but otherwise the locals don't much care for L and MC in particular. Solarium, despite having the same prices as MC, is reasonably popular because fewer gringos make the trek to Jardim Botanico.

Cat: You're right. That's why not everyone who might do well at Centaurus works at Centaurus. But the termas do have to walk the tightrope of being competitive in price while attracting the best women in order to attract customers. We want it both ways: low price with top talent.

Ahh, Aeroporto. This place was charging 150R for the women when the others were still charging 110-120R, and like everyone says, it still wasn't drawing talent. There is a lack of customers here (very few, if any, non-brasileiros), and the brasileiros that do show expect a lot of kissing, chatting and grabbing -- oftentimes, without doing a programa. Consequently, as Cat says, this is a place where a "talented" woman will be very happy to get 2 for 150/each -- whereas, at another place she could get 3 at 120R/each.

Yeah the Copa termas are definetly not gonna be seeing much of me these days.I have noticed a lot dudes in Copa spreading the word about the low end centro joints (15r).I went to a few this week and noticed a few other "gringos" coming in and out.So guys who want a quick fuck and are not anal about the rooms,these might be the spot.The girls aren´t as good as the main terma girls,but there are usually a couple of diamonds in the rough.They are definetly better than the TJ and CR dives....

I was kinda pissed when I walked into luomos on thankgiving day and they showed me the new prices.Damn that was my favorite Copa terma.I personally will stick to 4x4 and cancun for now,I still gotta check out Bononia(maybe this week).

Was here on Thursday. They has definately got rid of the real dogs and some of the summer only girls have returned so the selection is nice, but I would not say spectacular. I did have to do Bia (sorry Corto), though, as it has been almost two months. I did notice that for some reason the price of one hour has not gone up, it is still 180 instead of 210. So an hour session isn't quites as much more as a 40 minute session. I also hit a a massage parlor to save the cash. With the price increase at Lúomo Sweet's terma of choice is no longer one of the more exensive. Hope that stays the same. The ball buster for me is that I lost my phone the day I arrived and so am now without my standard romps, ugh.

I only got to luamo the 1 time this trip (mainly due to how solid the lineup at 65 was) but all in all it wasnt as good as I'd been led to believe. Certainly didnt appear anywhere near 65 and not really above 4x4. The downtown talent was good enough I did a pair of trifecta's and an overnight out of both 4x4 and 65.

Now I'm certainly out of the forrest gump "box of choclates" school of termaing....you wont know what you get till you hit the cabine. Lot of 10,7s and 7'10s so I tend to have a "looks" cutoff and then go on vibes. Plenty of good options in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Given the inconsistancy at help I stuck with the "terma outcall"....all three overnights were 3 hole 4 pop minimums at $R200...highly recommended vs the help BS (in my view at least)...

Luomo was ok on sun. Key is always to select the right one. I was surprised to barely recognize Bia, she has shed some pounds and looks better now imho.
