Just got this from the online version of the news on Univision.com; an article on street prostitution in Buenos Aires. From the sounds of this piece, dominicanas are on every street corner, selling themselves. I'm sure that these women are exploited, but in all the postings about action in B.A., no one has ever mentioned streetwalkers, much less an abundance of them, all from Dom. Rep. Zerped, did you read the last section where readers could post their comments? It was unreal. First, the Dominican readers complained that the article was biased towards their country and both exagerated the number of women doing this in Argentina and unfairly stigmitized their country. Then they started in on how many prostitutes there are in the US and how all of them are slutty Puerto Ricans and blacks. And that the US media won't say this because they don't want to offend these communities. Another chimed in that the real whores are Mexicans.

Oh yea, one guy mentioned that there couldn't possibly be that many Dominican women in Argentina because it is well known that the Argentines are all arrogant racists who are stingy with visas for people who are not as white as they are. Gosh, don't we hear all the time that that is the attitude of our own consulates?

I love it when you get to read about how the different Latin Americans view each other. This is the kind of stuff you will never see in English US media which takes the position that all Hispanics think and act alike regardless of where they live.

I don't know whether the readers are joking or not, but from my own experience the history is sadly true. I met tens of Dominicans in the streets of Buenos Aires and in saunas. Just a few of them work in classy bars.

As for the issue itself, the scandal was covered by almost every newspaper ( both "yellow press" and serious ones).

By the way, Argentinians are tough with Bolivians, Paraguayans and sometimes Chileans, especially if dark skinned, but not to the point to be called "arrogant racists". So far, I never heard about visas needed for Bolivians, Paraguayans and Chileans, even though these people make up to 3% of the total labor force (a bit over half million).


As for the issue of street walkers:

I had no less than 20 experiences with SWs, from 1990 to 2001. Some comments:

1) 50% are real women, and 50% are tranvestites. If you see a "girl" in the street with miniskirt or spandex and spiked-heels platform shoes, chances are that he/she is a TV. Usually, female SWs wear non-pros clothes (or at least not the apparel that you will find in Playwoman) in order to avoid the police fees and complans from neighbors. Since SW are less "naked" than club girs, they can easily hide body imperfections.

2) SWs are far less classy and attentive than club girls. You will very unlikely find a GFE, and your chance to find a barracuda is greater. Since these girls are not "protected" by any club against drunk people or molestors, they develop an aggresive defense response to anything they don't like, including special customer requests (BBBJ). Of course, YMMV.

3) Women usually concentrate in "hub" areas (train-bus commuting areas), because it is more difficult to the police to discourage them or organize an "anti-pros" busting operation. However, these places are usually run-down and are prone to street crime, so BE CAREFUL if you want to experience the street action.

4) Don't expect any English to be spoken. However, negotiations are very easy if you know the 10 words needed. Action may happen in the street if BJ, or in a nearby hotel ("Albergue Transitorio") if FS.

In many websites you will find an accurate despcription of where these spots are located (see http://www.trampitas.com/). I describe some of them:

- RECOLETA: A "high class" place. As for December 2001, most of them Argentinians and Brazilians. In front of Solid Gold and Playwoman, you will find the cemetery palisade. This block is very long (about 1000 ft.) and you will find many women walking by. They should charge p100-150 for FS. Usually, the best looking SWs work there. There are two hotels nearby.

In case you can't find them there, you should spot the girls around the corner, in the bus stops near Pueyrredon Av. and Azcuenaga St. (the sharp corner in front of the BA Design Center).

I think that you may find similar or best quality for less in Playwoman, Solid Gold, Sodoma and the like. And less hassle by negotiating in the street too, since soliciting in the streets is illegal.

- FLORES: A "middle class" place. Many Paraguayans, Dominicans and Argentinians. 3-4 Blocks from Rivadavia Av. and San Pedrito Av. (the rectangle made by Bacacay-San Pedrito-Bogota-Fray C Rodriguez). 80%+ girls. Some cuties found from time to time. Should be p40 for FS in a nearby hotel and p20 the hotel.
BEWARE: In 1999, I was about to be robbed there in my car (dark streets, no surveillance, etc.). So pay attention.

By the way, almost all customers drive their cars. They rarely come walking to the place because, if pedestrian, you have very good, cheap saunas nearby.

TVs usually stand in one corner. You will recognize them for their height and their clothes.

- CONSTITUCION: A "low class" place. Rectangle made by San Jose-Brazil-Pavon and Santiago del Estero. LOTS of TVs. Here is the "Dominican maffias" territory: 80%+ Dominicans with eventual Paraguayans and Argentinians, usually fatty, uncharming, uneducated girls. You can score for pennies, but from my point of view it doesn't worth the try.

Overall, if I were a foreigner, I wouldn't deal with SWs in Buenos Aires unless you find them wandering in the commercial allies of Florida St. or in a shopping center downtown and approach them
on the spot (with the risk of mistaking them and having a bad experience, indeed).

I got stopped by the police coming out of one of the hotels one night be a lady from solidgold. She had to convince the police that she was not a streetwalker.

It is illegal for anyone to make a commission on sex in BA. Maybe for Argentina also. This is why yo do not see termas in BA.

There is also a really good looking Dominica that works at solidgold. I thought she was from Brazil, as I think most black women in the clubs are from Brazil. This lady gave me a great GFE experience there.

A couple nights my friend and I saw SW's in exactly the area Andres mentioned near Solid Gold. You start to see them once you get on that street past the Burger King right of Junin Street. A few didn't look that bad but there was in way I could justify even thinking about seeing a SW.

Different strokes for different folks but there were so many girls in BA I don't think this would be for most guys unless you like the thrill of picking up a street walker. The girls in that area near Solid Gold looked older.

Since I probably won't make my first BA trip till January, I don't know if this is a good deal or not, but Hotel Bariloche is running a "coupon" special through this website: a "suite" for two hours for $30, with 20% off with the coupon, or $24 for a pretty decent-looking pad. This is one of the "love hotels," isn't it? Oddly enough, they advertise a free breakfast, so I'm confused: is this a "regular" hotel that just happens to cater to hobbyist activity, or a "love hotel" that just happens to invite you to come back from your own hotel and eat their free breakfast?

Anyone going to BA in the near future will have an ablsolute great time. For the amount of economic trouble that they are having, there are no signs of it anywhere in the city itself. Florida street was packed, restaurants and cafes were well stocked with patorns, Galleria Pacifico was busy, and people were buying. Some were tourists for sure, but there was a high percentage of local folks at the above mentioned places.

Cafe Orleans was packed with about 15-20 girls, and it was hard to find a seat. Some of the girls were quite beautiful as well.
