I'm headed to Nogales next Saturday and am curious about La Conga. Who's been there and what's it like?

It is a bar with a dance floor, jukebox and sometimes live bands. It has 4-5 private rooms with beds. You pay the bartender $15 for the room and the girl charges $50 for 30 minutes. It is a friendly place and the bartender can make sure the girl will do what you want in case there is a language barrier.
I have had good experiences there with a few different girls. The talent varies daily. It is a $5 cab ride from the border.

I've been "banished" to Arizona for awhile, and have had to hit Nogales. I got tired really quick of the Lord Black/Placer's "shuffle". I did get a BJ from one nice chick at Placer's on my first visit, but the subsequent visit she was still the only one that caught my eye.... So I went out and asked a taxista "No creo que este es todo - hay bares estilo Tijuana en Nogales?", and he took me to La Conga. It is kind of like going to a little bar like El Tejano. I went there at about 11:00pm on a Tuesday, and there were only about 4 chicks. I would expect that it could get pretty crowded on the weekends.

I've heard that there are other ZN-style bars in Nogales - anybody got any other info on bars other than La Conga?

Diego, I was in Nogales a couple of weeks ago and a friend led me to a promising joint in the tourist district that we call "The Owl Bar" because an owl is depicted on it's large hanging sign. ...GringoGrande had previously located a bar a couple of blocks south of Rio that was a combination of a TJ "small" bar and variedad. Don't remember the Spanish name but it started with an E and has a large hanging sign picturing an owl. We found about 12 apparent hookers in there with about 4 of them selectable. They want you to buy them lots of Tequila shots, but we did cut a deal with one petite cute blonde to go to a hotel for $50 plus $30 for the room....not a bad deal relative to what it costs for quality and comfort and enough time to get the job done right in Nogales. She even offered her phone number and said she'd invite us to her home the next time around. The deal breaker was that she wouldn't leave the bar immediately and wanted to swig down more Tequila - and it was late. As I said, the place is also a variedad...singers, live band, and strippers too. GringoGrande said there was even a wider variety of entertainment on his earlier visit. We were the ONLY gringos in the place, and we were treated as celebrities.

Any of you other Nogales guys checked this place out?

You know, I think I understand why La Conga is popular with the taxistas, and bars like your "owl bar" aren't - they wouldn't make any fucking money taking you 3 blocks!

I'm sorry to say, but Placer's/Lord Black is pretty boring stuff - and La Conga is too far away.

Like I said after I had visted LB/Placer's... "There has GOT to be more than just this". It only made sense. If you compare the number of "stripper" type bars in TJ to those in Nogales, well there might be about three times as many in TJ... SO - there has GOT to be about 1/3 of the number of ficha/hooker bars in Nogales too - we gringos just don't know where to look, that's all.

The taxi drivers are a bad bet. I like your idea of this "owl bar". It is close enough to the border to make me feel safe to strike up a conversation with a local and get the scoop on other bars of this type. I speak fluent-enough spanish to get by.

Erip - I WILL be reporting back... thanks for the lead! The place you are describing sounds a bit like West Fargo bar in Tijuana - but I think I can work with it.

The way I figure it - there has GOT to be a ZN-type neighborhood, but 1/4 the size, and it probably contains an Adelita-type bar, but about 1/4 the size. It only makes sense... So, Father Diego now has a mission to set up services for the "Our Lady of Adelita" congregation in a new location.

I can show you the "Owl Bar" and also a "disco" which had many "amateur" putas.

I don't speak much Spanish and as Spanish seems to be a necessity at these more "local" bars, I only go there with friends that can speak Spanish.

It also seems that at these "local bars" sex is not a given, and similar to Tropical in TJ it may take a little work.

Diego, let me know if you want to get together to "explore" non-tourist Nogales sometime. We can then post a report of our explorations.

I think that the Congo is a dump, although I have been to worse places throughout my extensive Mexico adventures. I have also been to that variedad places for after hours. There was entertainment, strippers, and whores. I was not impressed with that place. I have been told by cab drivers that there are other brothers close to la conga. The time we went looking for them it was too late and they were closed. Those types of bars close around 2 or 3 am. Your best bet is bringing street girls to your hotel or establishing favoritas at Lipstick, Placers,and Lord Black. I have some girls there that will do sex for the price of the dance.

I'll jump into this conversation and try to add some information. Two years ago I was at a bar on Calle Obregon that had prostitutes. I think the name of it was Pancho Villas, or something like that. Whether it had an owl sign on it or not, I don't remember. Anyway, the bar sounds a little like the place that Erip described. The crowd was mixed - but predominately composed of locals out for a night on the town with their sweethearts. At the bar - not behind it - was a heavy-set woman peddling a small group of women. Most were of highschool age - but there was one who was a little more experienced, perhaps 22 or 23, and more to my liking. We agreed on $50 for sex and $20 for a room, which was a short cab drive away. She was fun and enthusiastic, and before we parted company she gave me her name and phone number in Hermosillo. I have never stopped in Hermosillo, and have yet to call her up.

Anyway, I'll try to get down to Nogales later this week to gather some information. I remember that the bar had two floors; I never visited the bottom floor as all the action seemed to be happening upstairs. I do remember that it was very easy getting hooked up, but all of this was before places like Lord Blacks and Placers were around. I think Lipsticks and Ferni's were the only strip bars open. I haven't been to La Congo, but from the sounds of it, Pancho Villas (?) was/is better. If anybody has additional information, let me/us know.

Incidentally, the owl bar is called Tecolote, spanish for owl. It's a decent hangout and occasionally there are some really fine chicas. From the border, make a right and go past Rio. Go to Calle Obregon and hang a left. Go down to (I believe the street before Calle Vasquez) and make a right. You can't miss it with that big owl sign hanging there. I have also been to La Conga and find that it doesn't do much for me in the way of decent chicas.

I have found one on the American side. It is called VIP Oriental Massage. It is just past the Catholic Church on the left hand side. $60.00 for massage. If you are leary of the night, go to Cherries on a Saturday afternoon. They open at one o'clock.
Take the first crosswalk across the border to the left. You have to cross the main traffic entering the U.S. Cross railroad tracks and you be right there. It sits on the end of the block closest to the border.

I stopped in at La Conga last night just to check it out. Typical Mexican bar/bordello setup. Chica drinks were $5.00. Cerveza for me $2.50

The talent pool was a bit "worn" - about 10 chicas in the 3-5 range. One that might have made a six. I took the six for a whirl in one of the back rooms. At least it had a clean bed. I don't know if it was because it was Saturday or what, but it cost $80 total and I couldn't get down to the $65 bandied about here.

Oh, well. Rather uninspiring performance (f/s) that got the job done. Not much available in the cleanup afterward department.

Kind of a letdown after Placers, but you don't know if you don't go. Probably won't ever go back.

Airdick...the room and chica fees were rolled together into the $80 total. I'm not sure what the breakdown was for the house and for her. The chica's name was Marina. Well... I went in search of "Owl Bar", but ended up going into a Burlesque joint!

Kind of entertaining. I drank too many Pacificos that night, and now I can't remember the name of the place. It is about a half mile south of the Placer's/Lord Black strip joints, on the main road that leads to the border from the south.(whatever that is called). It is on the left, and the parking lot in front of the place is very steep. You also "go upstairs" to get to the place. It is definately within walking distance from the border.

The problem is, chica drinks are $8 - but you get to do pretty much what you want for $8. I would imagine you could get away with a lot back in the dark corners of this place. It is kind of like a cross between Tijuana's Amor Latino, Isis, and San Souci bars. Just like in Isis bar, the chick I was with was not hesitant to pull my dick out of my pants in front of everybody.

I would be careful about "dudes who look like ladies" in this place. Steer clear of the tall skinny ones ;^)

Finally found the Conga on a recent Saturday afternoon -- around 2 p.m. I was in no hurry, so I walked: south on Obregon (quite a ways, probably a mile to a mile-and-a-half) to 5 Febrero, then West about 4-5 blocks (through an ess curve that winds up a bit of a grade). La Conga is on the right ascending bank, as the say in Louisianne.

I walked in about the same time as another guy, and we were about it in there. Thirsty from the walk, I ordered a drink, and before I had time to let it cool over the ice, 2 or 3 senoritas had materialized. I'm an older guy, and probably less exacting in my standards than today's youts, but I thought they were pretty nice looking; more impressive, however, were the attitudes -- which I thought were friendly and hospitable.

Drinks for the senoritas were $5 and were strictly tickets to sit and talk (the "drink" being about a shot of orange juice), but that was o.k., because my amiga was not a pig about it, and gave me my money's worth; we got to know each other un pocito and negotiated our deal without needing a second drink.

Room is $15 for about a half hour (but at that time of day, I don't think they got real picky -- we got a knock after we had had plenty of time, but there was no particular rush even then), and your deal with your amiga is between the two of you (aside from the drink, I spent $50 total, down from the initial $65 asking; had I been capable of a second session, it would have been less). After completing the deal, there was no rush to be off, and some further acquaintancing was accomplished.

I was surprised by the room, after the largely negative posts I had seen here (and Redsnake) on La Conga. In fact, I would rate the rooms favorably with most in NL Boy's Town (except for Papa's -- haven't been to TJ), and one holy hell of a lot better than the beastly little closets in the strip joints near the border! Nor was there the horrific din. The room was acceptably clean and the bed was comfortable and plenty large.

Best of all was mi amiga's attitude -- which suffered not a whit from the price negotiation (tho she did ask - politely - for a propina later). I can imagine things are more hectic at night, but my experience was delightful. She was into it, but definitely put my pleasure first -- seeming even to enjoy that.

Mild pressure to have another drink afterward, which I did. During the wholly enjoyable conversation (who talks, anyway?) which ensued, I found that a toda-la-noche price is negotiable - one that sounded entirely reasonable (being right in line with NLBT, etc.), which apparently included a room there (the presence of personal items in the room made it appear mi amiga uses the room for personal time, as well as entertaining).

The lady was probably not the visually sexual treat some of the strippers in Lipsticks, etc. are, but she was plenty attractive to me, and had a very pleasant attitude. The staff was amenable as well, and the time and comfort of the private situation was incomparably superior to the strip joints. Personally, I will have nothing more to do with those little hellholes.

Afterwards, I walked back to the border -- still plenty of daylight, of course, but I did not get the feeling there would be palpable danger even after dark, but that's easy to say in the daytime.

After desperately needing a break from the border stip clubs, I decided to make a trip to La Conga Saturday afternoon. I had not been there for 20+ years. If anyone needs good directions to this place, just email me.

Is Buddy's the SC La Conga?

I haven't posted here before cuz I live in the SE and have been to Mexico just once. That was a fun trip (in 1998) thanks to ASPT. I am visiting at UA in Tucson this fall so set up a TJhombre ID.

Since I will be mongering in Nogie, I am mostly interested in the reports there. By the way, I will be in Tucson July 7-9 housing hunting so will be up for a trip down south.

It struck me as funny that La Conga sounds so much like one of my favorite places in the SE, Buddy's Truckers Motel in Bennettsville SC (check it out on www.worldsexguide.org--kudos to Jackson for the resurrection!) .

The similarities:
1) you go in and the bar is right there
2) if you sit down and get a drink, you will have company within (choose one: a. an eyeblink b. a dicktwitch).
3) the company will probably be Hispanic
4) the ladies will probably be a bit older which looks good on my aging eyes which can no longer focus on sharp things--only nice rounded ones
5) the rate is about $60

Viva la difference:
1) at Bville the ladies all speak passable Spanglish
2) at Bville they will not cadge you for drinks--I always put it in their tip
3) at La Conga it is legal but Buddy's has been there since the 70s

Well, MrBill finally made it to the famous (or infamous) Conga bar. (The only true brothel in Nogales). The reports above seem pretty accurate. Let’s just put it this way, if you just gotta score, and don’t mind if she’s a druggie, not so attractive, a bit “mature” or a gordita, then you’re in luck!

My barker assured me that there'd be at least a dozen chicas there, and that some of them might even be attractive. I figured this was partly BS, but he was putting his rep and his tip on the line by going with me, so WTF? He was half right. Seriously, I've often wondered why Nogi is set up the way it is -- perhaps because it was a pure tourist/entry town long before the real scene began. La Conga, and a few others that used to exist in the same neighborhood, are really relics of the past. They are/were old, in the wrong part of town, and not designed for the Anglo Tourist.

I bet when we drag our pale asses in there, it is simply bonus time because sure as hell no real Mexican pays $65 for a piece of ass.

I was getting a haircut there last week and the barber had two photos of Nogi, on from the US side looking south and one from the Mexico side looking North. Both taken in 1954. The Nogi picture looks just about the same -- other than the cars. Just not that much major consturuction in teh last 40 years. The US side looks significatly different.

Oh well.

I've been to the Conga twice. The first time I went there it was early evening on a weekday. The selection was abysmal. So I left. The last time I was there was over a year ago, when I was drunk and sitting around making time with some U of A co-eds at Koko-Loco's. I got talking to some guy who really wanted to check it out. I told him it was a waste of time, but he insisted and offered to pay for the cab and drinks.

This was on a saturday night and late (for me) abouit 11:00pm. There were about 20-30 girls there, about twice as many as the time before. But there were only a handful of guys, mostly ranch hands, and blue-collars out to dance, etc, and maybe spend some money in the back. We were the only gringo's, and therefore were prime target for every chica there.

I then noticed the best looking girl there. She was younger, about 22. and had a killer body. She was wearing some tight lowrider jeans that showed her waist. No "tightly packed surprises here". Unfortunatly my friend discovered there was no one else in the club he wanted to do (except this girl) and wanted to leave. I had exactly $60 on me so when she requested eighty, I counterred with $40. This went back and forth for about 10 minutes because my spanish is so poor. I told my new freind that I was going to stay if I got my price, otherwise I would go with him.

We were getting ready to leave when the madam(not the girl) who I was negotiating with agreed to the $40 for half an hour.

Off we went to the back and while the girl was pretty and had a nice bod, she was pretty lousy in bed. I really don't think she had interest in me or sex. I pounded on her for about 10 minute and came. We cleaned up and when I came out, my friend I found out got tired of waiting and left. I was glad I had the extra $20 because I needed it for cabfare back to the border. The cabby in front of the Congo wanted $10 bucks, knowing I was a gringo and wouldn't want to walk back. I turned around went back inside and had the bartender call another cab who onlt wanted $5.

Where the Congo is located has several other brothels in the neighborhood and none that gringo should really visit. It is the only "zone of toleration" in Nogales. The areas by the border where all the strip clubs are are actually zoned for entertainment/retail/resturants. (yes there is zoning in Mexico!!! LOL)

Technically these areas are not zones of toleration like the zona Norte in TJ. This is why you do not see the brothel/bars like Adelitas and CC. The clubs in Nogie can only offer sex "on the sly" they may not advertise it or offer it like the congo. The have the cubicles for dances only. That is why you do not see beds in the cubicles. What goes on in the cubicles is nobody's business, so sex is commonplace.

The city of Nogales does not mind the Gentlemen"s clubs, strip-tease ,etc., but will not tolerated open prostitution in this area. The police even "move along" any girls that might ply their trade openly on those street/alley aroung LB, Placers etc. There are no streewalker there, and for the time being this is what the City of Nogales, MX wants. All sex in this area is done sereptitiously. It is more like Revolution in TJ than the ZN.

This is actually OK with me. I like going to adelitas when I'm in Cal., but I've had a few surprises upstairs (the girl with one nipple!!!).

I don't get surprises at the stripclubs!!!. I would like a bed and more time like any guy. But right now prices in Nogie are cheap, the girls are pretty and Nogie is relatively close, and kinda fun for a change of pace.

I like it now more than TJ. That may be heresy to a lot of guys who love TJ, but to each his own!!

It's just really a mind-fuck to walk into a joint where you're the ONLY paying customer, and about 30 eyeballs are tracing your every move like you're a piece of meat. About the "zone of tolerance" - yeah, I figured that might be the case - why Conga is so far away from the "tourist area". Too bad, though. With so many hotties in Nogie and the surrounding Mexican Estados, Nogie could really be more like a mini-TJ or NL. Shit, there are 4,000,000 gringos within a 3 hour drive from Nogie. AND there isn't another established mongering town w/in a few hundred miles of Nogie - not one worth mentioning anyway.

BTW, if they don't like SGs in the "entertainment zone", does that mean you might get busted if you pick one up? How about outside of the zone? I still gotta cross an SG experience off my list...

Orgngrndr--Good info to know. This summer there was a thread going about massage parlors in Nogie and why there weren't any of the type we really want (massage followed by XXXX). This probably explains it.

As far as LaConga goes, I wonder how it would be if 10 of us all went there at the same time? A little competition never hurts?

1) IMO, I don't see why they couldn't do the massage parlor thing in the "entertainment zone" - as long as it's discreet, like the clubs, I don't see why not. I chalk it up to lack of business sense, myself. But then again, maybe they know that gringos are going to assume that MP = sex. Oh, hell, I give up...

Has anyone been to the La Conga recently? It has been awhile since I went there. The last time I was there was on a Saturday night about 5 months ago. There wasn't much there, maybe 5 ugly girls, so I didn't stay long. Also, are they open during the day? How many girls work there during the daytime?

Hit La Conga on a Wednesday night a few weeks ago. Was with UIC, and we saw nothing at the clubs that we liked.

Most of the talent there was Grade C or D, with one or two Grade B's mixed in. All told, there were probably 20 girls and just to two of us gringos, a shopping bag full of hard candy, some light sticks and some spanish/English franklin-type devices.

Spent probably an hour at a table, just messing around, giving out candy and looking up words. I latched onto a skinny little Grade B thing (Mini) who was a lot of laughs in the back room, especially when "the knock" never came. Standard $65.

UIC, on the other hand, was cornered by this err, robust (!) woman, 20 years his senior, who would not take no for an answer. He settled for some oral ($30) and at the ripe old age of 22, got to wish, for the very first time, that I had given him some of my Vitamin V.
