As soon as I arrived at GRU airport, that's the international airport of Sao Paulo located on the outskirt of the city in Guarulhos suburb, I had time to waste before my Rio connection flight. So I looked for VASP booth to purchase my local flights. I was able to get SDU-CGH for R$163, GRU-Curitiba for R$104 and POA-GIG for R$184 (direct flight). VASP did not have a good schedule for Curitiba-POA so I headed to the TAM airlines booth. While VASP counter did have friendly staff, TAM had even better staff with cute girls. I got Curitiba-POA for R$113. I did try to book all these flights from the USA by emailing BlameItOnRio but while last time they did business with me, this time they never returned my email. I also emailed BACC in NYC without any success. I think VASP and TAM are the ways to go for local travel. As always, udaman. As you amended in a post somewhere, the better Metro stop in Centro is the Carioca station. Take the Rio Branco exit, walk a few steps from the top of the escalator to Rio Branco and then straight down down to the termas's ruas. I do the reverse walk at night, but after 9:30 or 10PM, I'll even take a taxi. The Carioca station is also the better stop if you want to do some early afternoon shopping in the area on either side of Rio Branco.

I read the posts on air fares with interest, and like to add my two cents. Do not, repeat, do not take Fly Airlines. I took a flight between Rio and Fortaleza, and the flight was overbooked, then cancelled, which caused a near riot. Someone called the media and reporters arrived with cameras and interviewed the disgruntled passengers. Finally, the airline made other arrangements for everyone, but they still left 11 hours late. The return flight from Forta to Rio was a repeat without the near riot, but the 11 hour delay. It's a cheaper airline for a reason.
