Boo hoo hoo. I can only connect at the slow speed for the videos. It starts and stops for maybe 10 seconds at a time. Bluestraveller, the resolution and color of the videos is really off. I am assuming that the originals do not look like this. From everyone's comments I guess you have to see them with a broadband connection. My local library has a fast connection but it would be just my luck to have someone walk by while I was watching the videos. Or worse, to catch me in the restroom afterwards.

You should still be able to watch the videos if you do not have a broadband connection. There are two ways:

1. At the slow speed, you should still see a good picture if you are connecting close to 56K. If you are connecting at 28K, then you will get the start stop effect. The differences between the two files is lower resolution (no full screen), 15 fps vs 30 fps (a little more choppy), and mono vs stereo. Check to make sure that you graphics card is not in 256 color mode or 8 bit.

2. The other way is to download each video. You can do this by rightclick on the link and then clicking "download target as". It might take a while but then you will have the video on your hard drive and you can play it as you wish.

There are two things to remember when photographing women in the Rio termas.

1. Always discuss the fact that you want to take photos beforehand. In my last trip, not one girl objected, but in my prior trip, some girls objected. Some Spanish/Portugese helps a bunch here.

2. Be discreet. Once you have permission, go down to your locker and get your camera in a very discreet way. The people that work there don't really care, but you don't need to give them a reason either.

Spanish will certainly help you quite a bit. I speak Spanish as well, and there are so many words that are exactly the same between the two languages. You are doing the right thing to learn more Portugese however, because Spanish will only get you so far.

I stayed my first time at the Rio Roiss. I would recommend the same for you. My last stay was in an apartment and it was fine, but I also heard about first timers that had trouble with their apartment and spent more time dicking around looking for a new apartment than enjoying the scene.

The Rio Roiss has a long tradition with mongers but the Debret is just as friendly, same price, and slightly nicer (www.debret.com). Get a deluxe with ocean view.

Learning some portuguese will only improve your trip. The girls understand alot of spanish though.
