Saturday: Singapore: I had my ticket for the ferry from Batam to Singapore, and a 4:30 flight out of Singapore back to AC, but forgot that 4:30 Singapore time was 3:30 Indonesia time-and realized it in the taxi to the harbor. I got to the ferry just in time to miss one, and had to wait 40 minutes for the next one. On the trip from Singapore, we carried our suitcases onto the boat. For the return, I had to check in the suitcase, which was delivered to me at the dock so I could carry it onto the boat. By the time I realized how long I would have to wait, my suitcase was no longer in my possession, so I couldn't just grab the next ferry.

So, I missed my flight in Singapore, getting to the Tiger Air check-in counter at 4:10, only to find that it had closed at 3:45. The flight was half an hour late, MongerX told me (he was on that flight, we were supposed to fly together), but there was nobody to check me in.

To add insult to injury, the flight I had to take the next morning was S$150 more, and they charged me another S$60 in extra baggage weight. Sigh. I used the free internet at the McDonalds in Terminal 2 (Both terminals had free internet but only once you got into the departure area with your boarding pass), consulted the board for hotel advice, and decided on a hotel near Geylang that was supposedly a lot nicer than the cheap hotels in Geylang. When I would come through Singapore on my way home, spending a few days, I'd spend some money at the Orchard Towers, but I was more interested in something known, certain, and cheap tonight.

I got a cab, and the driver turned out to be a Coldwell Banker agent (driving a Mercedes), fluent in English and knowledgeable about the needs of a monger. He showed me the area near my chosen hotel where the freelancers could be found on the street and in the pubs, but the hotel turned out to be booked. He suggested the Geylang, why not, I'd be right there, and steered me to the OTHER Hotel 81 on Loreng 12, at the corner a block down from Geylang Street. This was much nicer than the first Hotel 81 I'd stayed at, the rooms were larger for one thing.

I was a little tired from the early morning wake-up in Surabaya, plus the travel, so I decided to score early, get a bite (I was starving), go to sleep, and see if I wanted to wake up in time for another romp before heading to the airport at 5 AM for the 7 AM Tiger Air departure. During a comprehensive walk around the lorengs 8 through 14 and the connecting streets, talking with a few girls (including a real blonde who was from Spain, $S100, and was quite busy all night raking in the dough from curious Chinese), I noticed a few open doors along the street, possibly the houses mentioned somewhere on this board. But I didn't have the nerve to go in; some of the open doors looked more like temples.

After my great experience with the Indonesian women, I was inclined towards several who spoke English. I found one Chinese girl who spoke a little English, but after a few words with her, an ugly pimp came over and said that she couldn't speak English, and he would talk for her. Well, she was doing fine, so I walked away. I returned a few minutes later, and once again, he butted in, so I told him he was queering my deal and left. I settled on an Indo girl from Batam named Vera.

This cute little spinner gave me a very good time (I didn't bargain for a better price than her quoted $S70, but asked for 45 minutes instead of 30-and got 40 good minutes, she was sweet and sexy.

Then, I went for a good meal at one of the many restaurants on the street, pointing at the mostly unfamiliar dishes to be served with my rice. And went to sleep afterwards. I decided to sleep, and got up at 4, with time to walk around some more. Vera was still working, and I played with her (lifting her up and spinning her around, after all, what are spinners for), and joked a little with the second choice Indo girl (who was entering my hotel with her customer just as I was coming down with my suitcases; she didn't get me but at least she got some business, she deserved it). My Mercedes cabbie had quoted me S$35 to pick me up and take me to the airport, but the cab I caught off the street cost about S$17.50 with tip.
