Nice report, with lots of interesting info. I think prices are slightly inflated inside Help during the high season, but they won't go down by much.

On your points:

1) I agree. I understand those who don't want to haggle, but the girls themselves tell me they don't understand it when a guy just accepts their first offer. They expect negotiation. It's a game, and while they will sometimes act offended, it's an act.

3) Guys have ended up with busted heads and knife wounds for exactly that kind of behavior already. If the girls take some of those guys out of the gene pool, that's fine by me.

7) So much for Brazil being the "great racial democracy." I've known lots of American brothers who've gotten hassled when they were doing nothing but minding their own business. Kind of like being arrested for DWB back home, except these Braziilian cops have no qualms about busting heads.

7) To be honest with you, I dont think my problem with the police officer had anything to do with race. My radar is usually pretty good at picking up racial undertones, I think he just didnt like seeing this fucking gringo with a very pretty non-working Brasilian girl. Trust me, I know the brasilian's penchant for violence, which is exactly why i wouldnt have hesitated to "nuetrilize the threat" if he had made a move!!

3) Ive seen alot of ass smacking and the like in termas, but I was really surprised at how many guys were doing it at Help, TA and Meia Pataca. All nationalities, not just Americans! The crazy thing was, if a girl got a pissed off look on her face because a guy stuck his hand up her skirt, the tourist would proceed to curse her out! That type of stuff may fly in Thailand, but I dont think its wise to try it in Brasil.

14) The girl's name is Gabby, you can find her picture on the board. She is in Priew's Rio report (He called her my future wife or something close to that) Beautifull morena with a great body. She is also the same girl that another monger made the comment "I'm not paying 300R to fuck her shoes"

I told the rookie that he did the right thing! He was really angry and he wanted to grab her by the neck, slam her against the wall and take back his 300R. Since he was in Brasil for the first time, he was more afraid of the ramifications of his actions than getting his 300R back. Truth be told, there was nothing he or anyone else on this board could have done if they were in the same position, best just to chalk it up as a learning experience and keep it moving.

15) "Serena Williams" invited me to Manguera's (sp?) funk party on Sunday night. I was really tempted to go, but I was nervous about hanging in a favela with hoods and my only protection being a girl I had just met. I thought best of putting my self in such a vulnerable position.

You may be right about it not having been a racial thing. I've had some Black friends who have received such treatment, and it's never happened to me. I have a tendency to attribute such things to race quickly, I suppose because I've seen race play an issue so many times. Two years ago I was traveling with a Black friend in Thailand and he wouldn't go anywhere without me because he said every time he went out alone the police grabbed him and wanted to know why he was there, etc., but when we were together it never happened. But that's Thailand!

Regarding the beach, I would go with your first thoughts - the cop had probably done the girl you were with or knew her somehow. Which is presumably why, at the end, the second cop more than likely told the first one to get his shit together. If one of the cops wanted to fuck with you just because you're a gringo, the second one would have looked the other way or backed his buddy up. The fact that the one cop was acting like a stalker would make me think that he knew the garota and was trying to act like a tough guy, and the second cop told him to chill out.

7.Thank goodness you made it through that one.Any confrontation with armed cops is usually a losing battle which can result in deadly consequences, especially in a country with a high number officer involved shooting deaths.Whatever that guys reasons were, I think you were better off not finding out at that point.

13.The kid situation is both sad and dispicable.I used to be more of a nice guy about it when I first started comming down, but now it has gotten out of hand and it's become one of the main things I hate about Rio.

3) We just had a guy down who was a tit freak. A girl walked up to him in the hallway at 4x4 and he just started molesting her tits right there. Near reception. I swear I don't think he even saw her face. I was actually offended for her. I told him usually you want to wait until you're in the cabine to start fondling them heavily. He was surprised.
