ClubHombre.com: -Off-Topic-: -Stock Market: What About That Stock Market?: Archives 11-20: Archive 18
By Ben on Thursday, December 19, 2002 - 11:46 am:  Edit

Yes, except your cost of the stock should be around $6.70 now and if you received another say $2.25 net, your cost would be down to $4.45. I was just wondering if that would be more profitable than selling it on Monday?

Anyway the best thing on this crazy stock is to get it called away tomorrow at $7.50.

By Kendricks on Thursday, December 19, 2002 - 01:23 pm:  Edit

I'll have to think about that. I don't understand how it would be better to sell Jan 5's for 2.35, if I could sell the stock for 7.36 and take my profit.

By Ben on Friday, December 20, 2002 - 07:06 am:  Edit

It wouldn't necessarily be better. I don't know your cost as I was just estimating.

Just suggesting an alternative.

As of now you are on the fence as stock is trading around $7.40

By Kendricks on Friday, December 20, 2002 - 09:48 am:  Edit

It's now at 7.50 - which way will it go???

As an academic excercise, I submit that, regardless of my initial cost, if the stock is at 7.36 Monday morning, and I could sell the Jan 5's for 2.35, it wouldn't be worth it to sell the options.

Whatever profit I have made would already have been made, and selling the Jan 5's for 2.36 above the strike price would only be locking in profits that could be realized by the sale of the stock. Accordingly, due to comissions and opportunity cost, selling the options would be a losing proposition.

Now, if the stock is trading at 7.36 and the Jan 5's are selling for 2.85, then it would definitely be worthwhile.

By Ben on Friday, December 20, 2002 - 10:51 am:  Edit

Another thing to consider is that if you sold the Jan 5 calls and of course reduced your risk by another $2.35, one thing could happen to make this move look smart. Lets say in January the stock is selling at $6.00 and you can buy the January option back for $1.05 and then sell the Feb. or March $5 Call for another $2.00 and move your cost down another net dollar.

I have done this for over a year on a stock(several times) and made over 50% return for one year while my risk on owning the stock was reduced dramatically.

Still as we both realize(I think) this pig needs to be sold ASAP if possible.

Damn, I didn't even look at the December Calls because the Jan. calls looked so good!!!

By Kendricks on Friday, December 20, 2002 - 11:16 am:  Edit

Interesting. I knew I had to be missing something there.

I'm just glad I sold the December calls, instead of getting stuck with the Januaries. I can't wait to sell this stock on Monday.

By Ben on Friday, December 20, 2002 - 11:26 am:  Edit

Fuck you!!! HA

I hope it gets called away today, but you might be OK selling some January 7 1/2 Calls if you want to get greedy.

I don't like to be alone.

By Ben on Friday, December 20, 2002 - 01:00 pm:  Edit

Kendricks,

CRXA at $7.46 as we speak.

You could sell the Jan 7 1/2 Calls for around .50 0n Monday which is probably about a 7%-8% additional return.

By Kendricks on Friday, December 20, 2002 - 03:10 pm:  Edit

LOL CRXA closed exactly at 7.50. Most of my stocks are going to get called away, so I am going to spend some time this weekend making decisions for Monday.

By Ben on Friday, December 20, 2002 - 06:03 pm:  Edit

Yo tambien had several stocks sold today, which was fine with me.

If you have some cash, usually Christmas week is a good buying week and usually January is a decent up market. THAT is USUALLY, not always!

You may/probably will not have CRXA called as sometimes the option holder see no value in excercising the option where he has no or very little equity. Unlike the seller of a Put the owner of the Call does not have to buy the stock.

I would be ready at the open on Monday to sell, but I would put in a limit order at $7.45-$7.50, as there will others that are in the same position as you. A market order could possible have your stock go at a big drop at the open.Of course MAKE SURE you still own the stock and it has not been assigned.

Also you might check the permarket trading to get an indication on the stock.

Good Job Kendricks

Hey,

Where are the Dow picks?

I pick 8250

I win two weeks in a row and everybody gives up?

By Kendricks on Sunday, December 22, 2002 - 01:11 pm:  Edit

I pick 8449. You might also want to take a look at NVDA.

By Kendricks on Sunday, December 22, 2002 - 01:22 pm:  Edit

Ben, what is permarket trading? How do I check this, and what does it mean? Thanks.

By Kendricks on Sunday, December 22, 2002 - 01:27 pm:  Edit

BTW, I did have my CRXA shares assigned.

http://www.nasdaq.com/

At the web page go down the left side to Extended Trading. You can click on Pre Market to see if the stock you are interested in has been bought or sold before the market has opened that day. You can click on After Hours to see if your stock is trading after the market closes.

Naturally in both cases it tells you the volume and price.

It is a nice investment tool to alert you to where maybe the market will be going at the open the same day or the next day in the case of "After Hours".

One of these days I am going to start charging you for these little gems. Particularly when you do better than me on a stock which was my idea.

Congratulations

Dow 8648

By Ldvee on Tuesday, December 24, 2002 - 07:14 am:  Edit

oops, the weekend got away from me, no bet this week. Santa came early, got a new dog "Sprocket" Sunday, which distracted me. My last best friend "Blackjack" died in May of old age.

Speaking of old age, did the Benosaurus win last week? Sorry Ben, I'm glad we got to meet at La Tropa. I'm not far behind you!!

Good quarter for me, Tio Sam will be happy. I'm doing my part keeping dough in the nation's coffers.

Start thinking about bets for the DJIA on December 31, 2003. We should make it so that the losers buy the winner an all-nighter. Hmm, how are we going to keep track? Should we do it quarterly? Might have to get Hombre to do a special web page for us.

Market drops another 22 points and Kendricks and I tie. Currently Dow at 8372

By Ben on Friday, December 27, 2002 - 09:38 am:  Edit

Day's Range
8,349.10 - 8,449.41

As of 9:13 Today.

I had a couple of stocks assigned/sold on December 20th?

I am just wondering if I am crazy to buy in today.

A lot of negative stuff in the world, plus Christmas was a bust for the retailers and oil at a two year high.

How about some Lockheed Martin (LMT) for defense and buy some more Exxon for oil?

Anybody have a reasonable suggestion?

Maybe I need to go see Sugar Pie and see what she thinks I should do with the money?

Sampson says she misses me.

By Ben on Friday, December 27, 2002 - 12:52 pm:  Edit

Fucking Great

It looks like ben wins the Dow today (uh third week in a row) and continues to watch CRXA go down in value. Currently CRXA is $6.37 and my break even is 46.55

Kendricks makes money on my fuckin idea and I look like I am going to break even if I am lucky.

Damnit

By Ben on Friday, December 27, 2002 - 12:53 pm:  Edit

Thats $6.55

Dow 8400 another basically flat week

By Ldvee on Friday, December 27, 2002 - 04:58 pm:  Edit

Numbers from 17 Aug when for some unknown reason I figured we were finished with bear market and also started screwing around with SURE.

DOW -5.71
NAZ -0.94
S&P -6.10
SURE 39.76

I'm still keeping my table of numbers in Excel but it is becoming a pain to format for posting.
Anybody miss it? I didn't think so.

This Axis of Evil talk coming out of DC is costing me money. I long for the days when the big DC news was cum stains on dresses, cigar dildos, surpluses, not deficits, and oh-by-the-way a small war in the Balkans, but let's get back to Oval office blowjobs. I liked Bill.

Grumble, grumble, grumble, I'm in at 8200.

8100 for me

8250

By Ben on Sunday, December 29, 2002 - 08:22 am:  Edit

Nayarit has to go to 8300 because of the 100 point rule.

By Nayarit on Sunday, December 29, 2002 - 03:55 pm:  Edit

Ok, Hey where are the rules published and what does the winner receive/

By Ben on Sunday, December 29, 2002 - 05:49 pm:  Edit

I keep the rules in my head and I am very forgetful.

By T_Bone on Sunday, December 29, 2002 - 07:43 pm:  Edit

Until Nayarit picks his own legal score he doesn't have a pick.

Since the market hasn't opened I'll change my 8400 guess to 8399

By Ben on Monday, December 30, 2002 - 06:54 am:  Edit

T_Bone,

In the spirit of good sportsmanship plese don't try to take Nayarits pick away. He is new to the game and maybe I never mentioned the 100point rule.

You have been spending to much time listening to that sinister Kendricks

Your 8400 stands.

By Ben on Monday, December 30, 2002 - 06:57 am:  Edit

I project 2003 to be another crummy year in the market, although I do think many stocks are down at levels where you have am opportunity to make money. It will be a stock pickers market and probably not a good year to own index funds.

I think the Dow is still 10%-15% over valued.

By Nayarit on Monday, December 30, 2002 - 11:44 am:  Edit

Thank you Ben, for defending my 8300 pick. By the way, what do we win?

By Ben on Monday, December 30, 2002 - 09:38 pm:  Edit

The pride and self esteem of being a winner.

Holy Crap,

Market up almost 200 points today.

First week of the year has been a fairly reliable perdictor of the year. I don't personally see a great year, but I would be more than happy to accept a 10% increase in the Dow and 20% in the Naz.

By T_Bone on Thursday, January 02, 2003 - 08:21 am:  Edit

Ben - you have to put in another rule for a deadline to make your pick. Opening bell Monday morning would seem logical but this is crazy. Perhaps Kendricks thought yesterday was Sunday (it seemed that way for me). How about you must be an additional 100 points/day away from a pick so his 8500 must be 8800 (8700 if you consider the market was closed yesterday).

Respectfully submitted

And yes T_Bone you are well in the lead

Market at its high for the day.

I bought some GE on Monday and Raytheon (RTN) on Tuesday.

Give me one more up day and I write options on these suckers

By Kendricks on Thursday, January 02, 2003 - 08:41 pm:  Edit

Hey - I don't recall any rule that says you can't post a guess after Tuesday's close, before the next trading day!!!

By Ben on Thursday, January 02, 2003 - 09:37 pm:  Edit

Yeah, will Iguess you missed that rule where it says "no posting of a Dow perdiction after a weekday holiday, unless the holiday is a Monday or Friday

By Ben on Friday, January 03, 2003 - 12:51 pm:  Edit

T_BONE wins and Ben comes in last place.

Kendricks disqualified because all guesses need to be in by each Monday morning. Preferably before the market opens at 6:30 A.M.

By Kendricks on Friday, January 03, 2003 - 07:26 pm:  Edit

Even though I was disqualified, I am still the winner in my own mind (this is not the first, and probably will not be the last time in my life THAT has happened...)

8784 for next week, you sons of bitches.

100 pt rule? Does that mean I have to pick. 8385? Ok I'll take it 8385. Ben when's the birthday bash?

Nayaritdoesntknowwhathesdoing.

By Kendricks on Saturday, January 04, 2003 - 06:25 pm:  Edit

It means that you pick must be at least 100 points away from all others. It can be farther, just not closer.

Otherwise, if you picked 8500, some wiseass could pick 8501, and another could pick 8499, leaving you with virtually no chance of winning. Mongers are very devious people, so I am sure that if left to their own devices, some guys here would stoop to tactics like this.

Of course, I once did hit the Dow pick PRECISELY, but I am the only one in the history of Clubhombre to ever do so...

By Nayarit on Saturday, January 04, 2003 - 08:35 pm:  Edit

Congrats, How do you do it?
