What are the Chargers thinking, sign LT now.
This could be the best defense ever for Chargers this year.
Could not they sign Erik Williams to minimum salary to protect my man Flutie?
I predict 8-8 season.

Erik Williams did not want to play last year and he certaintly does not want to play this year. The man is done.

Dallas-Chargers week 3
Chargers win Chargers win...
By Sakebomb on Wednesday, August 15, 2001 - 02:51 pm: Edit |
ATHOS...12-4 if Flute stays healthy, and their defense will score at least one TD each game. First 7 games: 6-1 w/ the loss goes to Denver. Last 9 games: 6-3, split series w/ both KC & OAK, loose to PHI (?). Remember as bad as their offense was in '99, they were one game from winning the div., actually that fucked-up give away game w/ the Bears.

Jeff Graham dropped tying touchdown pass from Harbaugh. I was sitting in the stands with right angle, broke my heart.
I am looking at 8-8, Flutie will not be protected unfortunately.
Chargers defense may challenge Ravens and Titans defense.

The Cowboys are the team to beat!
That's because everybody's gonna beat 'em. 0-16 has a nice ring to it (can you tell I'm a Giants fan?).
If my life depended on one team winning it all this year, I'd have to go with the Rams also. Hey Buick, first we matched on Sofia-CC and now the Rams; are you my long lost brother?

Dallas won't go 0-16. Nobody's ever been that bad and Dallas certainly isn't either. The Cowboys will suck ass on defense, but the offense will score points barring injury to Galloway & Ismail. Maybe 4-12 or 3-13.
The Rams have too many new faces on defense this year, even though their D can't help but be improved from last year's sorry crew. Tampa Bay looks stronger all around than St. Louis in the NFC.
The Tennessee Titans look nearly unbeatable this year in the AFC. Contrary to popular belief, they had the #1 defense in the league last season (not Baltimore), and they added Kevin Carter at right DE. Jevon Kearse and Carter may each go for 20 sacks this year.
Denver looks strong as well. They added a lot of veteran backups to their defense and Terrell Davis should be back at full strength this year.
Should be a fun season.

Any over/under props on total wins at Caliente? The Vegas line that looks too good to be true to me would be Vikings over 9 wins.
Athos, Chargers are gonna find it real tough to win 8 games when they go 0-8 in Division. They gonna even TRY and sign Tomlinson?

No o/u for team season record, only SB and AFC/NFC champion.
Chargers are ranked 4th ahead of Chiefs, will also split with Seahawks. 7-9 to 8-8 is my prediction.
Superman
Titans did lose starting corner Rolle and another starting safety so big question mark there.
Very exciting seasonm here are my div champs:
NFC
East: Giants 11-5
Central: Bucs 11-5
West: Rams 13-3
AFC
East: Dolphins 11-5
Central: Titans 13-3
West: Denver 12-4
SB: Rams vs Titans, speed kills.
I like the Ravens D but somehow I still hate Grbac.

7 - 3 they will be 10 - 6
the rams to take the superbowl

The Chargers go 4 - 12 for the season. Flutie won't last the whole year. The Offensive line sucks.
The Giants go 8 - 8.
Super Bowl? I dunno, Tennessee - Tampa Bay, maybe.

No way...stick w/ my prediction. Chargers always play tough against Raiders, and as good/tough as Raid were last yr, Chargers losses to them were close. Hasselbeck is unproven and Seau will have his #. Chargers will sweep SEA, and split series w/ OAK, DEN, KC. I wish they should have picked up Bank for $500K (was the lowest paid for starting QB w/ DAL) as Flute's back up. PLAY OFF TIME BABY!!! Chargers power!!!
SBowl: Tampa all the way

If Lewis would have not been injured noone would have challenged the Ravens. Virtually no weaknesses now that they have Pro Bowl QB Elvis Grbac...hard for many of you to swallow but he had the best all around year of just about any QB and had no receivers to speak of...but without Lewis they will have to put too much pressure on Grbac to do everything and that spells disaster for any Qb except Warner and Favre.
For now it looks like Rams v. Titans or Denver but the Rams are one Kurt Warner concussion away from being an average team. If Warner is out, look for Tampa bay to run the table and beat any team from the AFC.
Before Lewis's injury, the three most complete teams in the league were the Rams, Ravens and Bucs. One of those three teams may take it all but parity in the NFL guarantees nothing. Can't wait to watch games at Caliente in the SG alley and get some halftime relaxation right down the steps...only in Mexico.

Don't you check your ticket after purchase? Chicos at Pueblo Amigo are known to make mistake, somne on purpose. I usually buy my tickets only from reliable chicas/chicos.
Sakebomb
I place heavy bets only on 2 team teaser restricting myself to one big teaser a week.
6 pts is -110
6.5 pts is -120
7 pts is -130
I also place small bet on pink multi games teaser
Do NOT go for 3 team teaser as odds and rewards are against you. That has been repeated to me over and over again by long time bettors.
I go to Pueblo Amigo, downstairs by the non smoking area to the left as you enter.
I'll be there on all Chargers away games.
Why don't you stop by and say hi.
For the high rollers, you can even have a room for yourself.
They usually show all the games, but only 7 monitors by non smoking area.
Once I thought I had won an 8 team teaser but pink sheet and teaser had one 1/2 pt difference which was all I needed to lose.

Athos...You're right about their screwed up odds compared to Vegas. I thought Chargers opens at home against Skins? I had a 13-team teaser during play-off at Ceasars, and I was 12 out of 13. Fricking Denver (+13, at home, in the snow) got wiped out by Jacksonville. This was the yr b4 TDavis came so I think it was '97. Pay off was in the area of 250 to 1. Two weeks b4 that, my buddy won a 16-team teaser bet, he made a really small what-the-heck bet and came home w/ $5500 from that bet.

They were charging $20 to get in last year on sun, other days no cover charge. You can use $20 ticket towards placing bets.
Near the end of the season they got tired of it since most guys bet in 100's and even 1000's, that $20 was very annoying.
You find mostly gringos from SD and LA but also locals checking the horse racing.
When the money truck comes, guards mean business, you don't want to fool around with these guys.
And yes, be careful, I hide all my money then grab a cab to zn on sun night but I am a small time player.
They have bunch of cops in Pueblo Amigo, well I like it seeing them around.
If you win over 10k and up, I'd say yes have a way out as Caliente may tell U.S. border guards just to annoy you. Anything in the 1k is pocket change.
All in all I like Pueblo Amigo for the atmosphere, a bunch of nfl bettors, football knowledge is very high. Food is not very good except for $3 chicken soup. One of the bar tenders know me and sees me at AB on sun night.
You see a lot of gamblers hang at AB. Only negative is smoke despite decent air conditioning. Bathroom are kept clean with soap and paper towels. Other negative is you have to show up early to get your favorite seat, 9:00 am is a good time to arrive.

Brad Johnson is horrible, Bucs ain't going anywhere... go Packers.

Athos: On paper, I agree Chargers look to go 5-0 to start. However, we all know, that ball ain't round and has a tendency to bounce funny ways. On any given Sunday....etc.
Best I can see SD is 8-8. Maybe even get beat by Cincy and Cleveland (who did manage to win a few last year). Just thought I'd throw that in since I grew up in Cleveland. Actually, I'm turned off by pro football ever since '96 when Modell screwed over Browns fans; the same year that Georgia and Al dumped on LA. Plus, what sterling role models there are with players like Ray Lewis, Rae Carruth, Michael Irwin. Support their teams through ticket sales and television viewing so that they become multi-millioniares. Only to have it tossed back in your face by their immature and/or criminal behaviors.
Having said all that, the NFL is still the only professional sport that I bet on. I realize there are bad situations in other sports as well. I'm back to being an avid baseball fan and it just doesn't seem to have as many issues as football.
Maybe I'm up in my ivory tower with a twisted perspective. There are probably a lot of atheletes that would have disdain for my screwing putas. Probably a few that would cheer me on. Guess I'm just pissed that no one is paying me millions to allow me to enjoy doing it more often than I'm now able to do.

I am not sure I understand the Jets covering against Raiders. They may lose by 3, they may lose by 13. Last year I believe they lost 31-0. Unless you think Jets will win in Oakland.
JoCannon
I am a die hard Chargers fan with season ticket but yes 5-0 seems too far fetched so I'll just take one game at a time but I see Chargers winning in Big D in two weeks. Keep Quincy Carter in the pocket and let him throw the ball. He can run pretty well but he is not accurate right now with balls sailing.
I don't think Bengals can win in SD but yes Chargers can easily lose in Cleveland and/or New England.
I like Miami at home against hapless Bills except Dolphins lost their left tackle with ACL. Rob Johnson cannot run the west coast offense. Sam Cowart is out indefinitely.
I would expect both Lions and Steelers to come back strong this week.
By Jocannon on Tuesday, September 11, 2001 - 03:22 am: Edit |
Athos: I recommend staying away from the Lions game. Batch can't run the west coast offense either. Mornhinweg demoted him after Monday practice and Ty Detmer takes over. He was only picked up a week ago from Cleveland, hasn't taken a game snap as a Lion or a snap in a regular game in a year. If if couldn't even be back-up insurance for Couch, don't expect the Lions to move the football. The only positive thing is they're at home against a team playing with no quarterback.
Yes, the Chargers should win after the bye. Just have to see what the line is and how bad the Pokes are beat up by then.
My Picks...I LOVE JAX. Nickerson seems to be back in form. Brunell, Smith, and Taylor are head and shoulders over Matthews, Booker, and Allen.
The Steelers will never win with Kordell Stewart. The Browns defense played well in pre-season and again yesterday. Couch had a good game despite only getting inside the red zone twice. But one of those was on an impressive drive to tie at the 2 minute mark. Special teams broke down on the ensuing kick and allowed a 49yd. runback to lose to a 52yd'er w/3secs. Davis has stressed special teams since he took over and made his cut decisions on that basis. It won't happen again next week. Brownies + pts. on Sun. nite game.
I like the Vikings to bounce back even tho they go against the champs on MNF. The Ravens are due for a letdown after the Super Bowl and getting their first victory of this season under their belt. OK, so I still hate Modell. Minnesota will keep it close enough to cover.
Sorry Eclipse: the original west coast offense still has quick strike capability even without Rice. And the defense shut down a better offense ATL than what the Saints have. 49ers win outright. Points are a bonus.
Falcons loses 2nd straight roadgame. Look for NFL's best offense to explode this week even with Warner's sore thumb. Rams - give 'em what they want.
I usually play 4 teamers. I've given you 5 to work with. There's a winner in there. Guaranteed...or the next puta's on me. However, my choice of YMMV providers.

Well it's back to week 2, go Chargers...
Any possible upset on these games?
Broncos at Cards
Colts vs Bills
Packers vs Redskins
Ravens at Bengals.
My upset special
Bears +3 vs Vikes will win game straight. Good defense and decent offense. Could have beaten Ravens in week 1. Vikes weak on defense and questionable RB.
Home team
Chargers -3.5 will destroy Cowboys 26-13. Cowboys cannot stop the run nor the pass. Chargers have balanced offense and strong defense. Emmit Smith will move towards passing Barry Sanders with 39 yards rushing.
Game of the week: Dolphins -1.5 vs Raiders

Y'all prolly stay away from totals (for good reason), but 36 points in a Jax/Tinnisee matchup in which both D's are beat to hell already and using Chargers rejects (Deron Jenkins) as fill-in corners? I don't think Tinnisee has enough DB's to do a walkthrough. NFL official injury report doesn't even list Kearse, but the BIBLE (covers.com) lists him as questionable. Of course as bad as Tinnissee's O (particularly George Eddie) looked v. Miami, maybe the play's just J-ville to steamroll them. NAAAAH! Root for a shootout!

Damn, Athos. I can't figure whether you are more of Charger fan or more of a Cowboy hater! There are lots of anti-Cowboy posts in this thread from you.
I can't understand why you would hate Dallas, considering they have no rivalry history with the Chargers whatsoever. Of course it's hard to have a rivalry between a traditional NFL doormat and the NFL's traditional super-power. SD is only 8 Super Bowls and 5 championships behind the mighty Cowboys.
As far as Dallas not being able to stop the run, you are mistaken. You must have missed their dominating run D all pre-season and their dominating performance in shutting down Warrick Dunn in Week 1. I doubt Ladanian will do any better than the 3 yards per carry he did last week.

Athos, how did you get -1 on Baltimore? Everyone else is showing them at -7. Damn, that should be as close to a lock as you can get.
You never know in the NFL though. I remember Denver looked like a guarantee in a game last year against Cincinnati and cost me some serious bucks when Corey Dillon ran all over them.
I don't think the Chargers will cover against Dallas. TB beat them by 4, and TB is a much better team than SD.

FYI: Dallas' best defensive lineman so far this year, Ekuban, is out for the next 8 weeks. They are sorely lacking in depth.
Quincy Carter will be better at QB this week. Why? Because he can't possibly be worse.
By Superman on Thursday, September 20, 2001 - 11:45 am: Edit |
Greg Ellis is the Cowboys best defensive lineman.
Quincy might not even start Sunday because of a sore thumb. The decision will be made tomorrow. It's true he can't play any worse though.
-Superman-
By Hippie on Thursday, September 20, 2001 - 01:40 pm: Edit |
According to the Cowboys' head coach and defensive line coach, Ekuban has been their best defensive lineman this preseason and in the Tampa Bay game. He was definitely the best pass rusher on the line. They seem to be a little disappointed in Ellis, and I suspect they might even rank Underwood and/or Noble above him based on Week 1.
It looks like Wright may start at QB, which can only improve the Cowboys' offense compared to last week.
By Porker on Thursday, September 20, 2001 - 02:07 pm: Edit |
Superman, Athos likes to be a pussy and bet sucker bets like teasers. THAT's how he gets those 6 point breaks in lines. I used to bet teasers myself, 5 teamers, actually, until the '98 Nebraska disaster cured me from gambling on football beyond my means for good. Err, uh, I HOPE!
Re: Dallas, Carter supposedly can't grip a tennis ball with that hand, yet they continue to say he's possible for Sunday. Hippie's right that ANYTHING is better than that guy. Especially since Stoney Banks and DERRR Leaf are no longer options!
Athos, never force anything looking for a bet. If you gotta take a week off DO IT! That's what I'd advise this week. The guys that make the NFL lines adapt quickly. In week 1 they fucked up royally, grossly over-estimating the Patriots and the Bills, whose teams were decimated with free agency defections/suspensions/injuries. This week's lines look a lot more fair. Do I think the Chargers are better than the Cowboys? Yes, but I wouldn't bet on it. Yet.
By Superman on Thursday, September 20, 2001 - 04:26 pm: Edit |
I missed where the Coach said that. Ekuban missed most of the preseason with an injury and only played one half against Tampa Bay where he had 2 tackles. Based on that I don't know how anyone can consider him their best defensive lineman. Ekuban has great potential, but Greg Ellis is dominant against the run and is clearly their best defensive lineman.
Porker, anything is better than Quincy right now, but I like his potential. He's only a rookie, and rookie QB's never play well their first season. Peyton Manning led the league in interceptions his rookie year and Troy Aikman went 0-11. It will be interesting to see what happens if Anthony Wright has a good game though. I'm still glad they dumped loser Tony Banks, and I thank allah Cryin' failed his physical.

Porker
You're absolutely right but I have to believe Chargers will cover for me. Maybe early season exhuberance for me.
Anthony Wright is starting QB for Dallas.
And yes I am a complete pussy as I am good at picking winners but not spreads in wins so I try to always stay within a FG.
By Athos on Friday, September 21, 2001 - 04:23 am: Edit |
Superman
You can buy between 6 to 7 points on teasers.
So I bought 6 1/5 points yesterday as spread went back up to 3.5 for chargers at -120.
Ravens -0.5 at Bengals
Chargers +3 at Cowboys
I don't care whether or not Charges cover regular spread as long as they win, I'll take 10-9 win on sun.
The teasers and parlays rules are described on the walls of Caliente. It was pointed to me by experienced gamblers, 2 team teaser is the way to go to make money in the long run with a few straight bets once in a while.

Sounds complicated. Don't blow all your cash on the games or you won't have any for the chicas!

Athos: What does a 2 tean teaser with the traditional 5 points pay? The 3 team/5 pointer pay 5/2 on the cards.
By Athos on Saturday, September 22, 2001 - 09:33 am: Edit |
Powerslave
There is no 2 team teaser with 5 points at Caliente. It's 6 to 7 points.
6 pts -110
6.5 -120
7 -130
On the pink cards, they give you between 4 to 5 points with fixed odds.
By POWERSLAVE on Sunday, September 23, 2001 - 10:33 am: Edit |
Right, thanks. The pink cards give five points. You are right, a 2 team 6 pointer sounds very attractive.
By POWERSLAVE on Monday, September 24, 2001 - 09:23 am: Edit |
ATHOS, more questions. 1.) What do 3, 4 and 5 team teaser parlays pay, with 6 points? 2.) Are there teasers on the over/unders?
Thanks in advance...

How'd everyone do this week? I lost another $100 this week.
1st 3-team parlay bet $50
Dolphins -1.5 (won by 3)
Broncos -8.0 (won by 21)
Ravens -7.0 (lost the fucking game...)
I really thought this would be a sure winner.
-----
2nd 3-team parlay bet $50
Packers -8.5 (leading 27pts in 4th Q)
Eagles -3.0 (won by 24 pts)
Titans +2.5 (lost by 7 pts... they're the upset specialists. thot they'd come thru for me)
I dont bet too big, just $100 a week. It'd sure be nice to pick some winners finally though. I think I might start to just do the 2 team teasers like Athos.
By Eclipse on Monday, September 24, 2001 - 01:59 pm: Edit |
Odds arent out yet for next week's games, but I like:
Philadelphia at home over Dallas
Green Bay over Carolina at home
Indianopolis over N.England at home
What do you guys think?
By Bigmark on Monday, September 24, 2001 - 02:15 pm: Edit |
Eclipse,
Philly -12.5
Indianapolis -9.5
No line on the Green Bay game yet.
The play is Jacksonville at -8 against the Cleveland Browns. The Browns will not be getting a gift of 7 interceptions like they did against the Lions.

Eclipse...Straight up Chargers "Power" made me 350bones, but blew 150bones on a 2-team parlay Chargers "Power" (-3.5) & VikeSTINK (-3). VikeSTINK blew the fricking game again. You saw that sideline scene between Carter and a lineman?? They got some serious internal personnel issues. I should have listen to Athos not to pick them. Oh well...

SB
Rarely listen to me but was 14-1 this weekend picking winners. Close but no cigar as the 1 I missed cost me $280 when that sob Grbac threw the game away. But won my two main teasers so ended $500 on the positive side.
Eclipse
Early lines from LV
Eagles -13 vs Cowboys Q. Carter is set to start again. Duce Staley probably out 1 game. McNabb is the man. Another boring prime time game unless eagles fan. That Thrash guy can play too. Redskins are the dumbest bunch, sign old vets and let go of their best without a sniff.
Colts -8 at Patriots but that was before it was announced Bledsoe is out indefinitely. Manning is a child of God. But Colts have no defense.
Packers -3.5 at Panthers but line was before tonight's game. Ahman Green is the best bargain, rb with speed, power and good hands. Man he looks better than LT.
Powerslave
I do not know how much you make on 3, 4 and 5 team teasers or parlays. You can mix over/under and first half score for parlays but not teasers. Rules are posted against the wall for odds.
I agree with Bigmark, Jaguars -8 at home against offenseless Browns. Browns best player is still out, Courtney Brown. Looks like Browns have no wr and no rb. Fred Taylor is also out for Jaguars. Jaguars have not given up a td yet.
My weekly upset special is 49ers +3.5 at NY Jets. 49ers will cover and beat Jets straight. But DT Bryant Young may be out so wait for injury report.
How the west was won, AFC and NFC West will rule this year.

Eclipse
The Colts game is -10 now.
I don't necessarily like your picks for a parlay.
Maybe look also into the Falcons game -3 at Cards and Broncos -4 vs Ravens.
Cards are worse than Cowboys, Falcons shoud have won in SF and dominated Carolina yesterday. Plummer is not the real deal.
Looks like Chandler has enough time to throw the ball this year.
Broncos have Griese vs Grbac, good rbs vs Terry Allen, home crowd, you know the broncos are going 7-1 or 8-0 this year at home with possible loss to Chargers or Raiders.
By book_guy on Tuesday, September 25, 2001 - 07:43 am: Edit |
Hey, anybody know what the "Ty" in Ty Dettmer's name stands for? It's what the free safety says ... "thank you" for the ball.
Pic. Pic. Pic. Pic. Pic. Pic. Pic -- oops, called back for an unrelated foul. Pic. Amazing.
By Athos on Wednesday, September 26, 2001 - 03:27 am: Edit |
Well went to tj yesterday as colts line too good to be true, indeed line was -12 at 7:30 pm.
Here are my teasers this week:
-120
Raiders -4 vs Seahawks
Eagles -7 vs Cowboys
-110
Colts -6 at Patriots
Jaguars -2 vs Browns
also fun teaser +450:
Raiders -3.5
Eagles -6.5
Colts -5
Jags -1
Chargers +0.5
Broncos +3
Game of the week: Miami at St Louis.
I checked the rules, for parlay you can bet between 2 to 10 picks, for teaser 2 to 6. In case of a tie, bet goes down to the next level, for example a 3 team parlay would become a two team parlay. But guys have told me in the past in case of a tie, you just get your money back so not 100% sure.
By Athos on Friday, September 28, 2001 - 04:02 am: Edit |
Looks like DE Marcellus Wiley will play on sun for Bolts. Game is sold out, make noise please when teams inside 30 yard line. Bolts 30 Bengals 17, 3 sacks, 2 int's, 1 fumble recovery. Am I dreaming? possible 8-0 start.
By Sakebomb on Friday, September 28, 2001 - 05:56 am: Edit |
CHARGERS POWER IS 4 REAL!!! Here's my original prediction on 8/15:
"...12-4 if Flute stays healthy, and their defense will score at least one TD each game. First 7 games: 6-1 w/ the loss goes to Denver. Last 9 games: 6-3, split series w/ both KC & OAK, loose to PHI (?). Remember as bad as their offense was in '99, they were one game from winning the div., actually that fucked-up give away game w/ the Bears."
PLAY-OFF TIME BABY!!!
My teasers this week:
Chargers Power (-.5) & Raiders (-4)
Jaguars (-2) & Raiders (-4)
Chargers Power (-.5) & Colt (-6)
Broncos (+2) & Jaguars (-2)
Well...it's time to go "TEASE" some pretty chicas w/ my advance winning bets. Football, beers, great friends, chicas...Hah, que vida!!! Dios bendiga America!!!
By Eclipse on Friday, September 28, 2001 - 04:16 pm: Edit |
I just put a couple bets tonight. The first was a 3team parlay.
Chiefs (-3) vs Redskins
Falcons (-3) vs Cards
Chargers (-6.5) vs Bengals
The other was a 10 team teaser. They had some crazy ass odds on it like cowboys at +18.5 and seahawks at +15.5
By Jocannon on Saturday, September 29, 2001 - 11:07 am: Edit |
Heading to Sin City tonight. Here are my 4 team parlays (1/2 point cards).

KC -3.5
Buff +3.5
StL -6.5
GB -3.5
Late games
Atl -2.5
Cle +9.5
Oak -10.5
