For those of you who like their horses, there is a very live longshot on Saturday 27Oct. It will be for the Distaff at a 1 1/8 mile on the dirt for the Breeders' Cup at Belmont. You'll have to be there at 9am or so to catch the race as it is the first BC race. The name of the horse is Atelier. She is coming into the race with hidden form(I've been following her since I'm east coast based). It looks like you'll get 40-1 on her.

Maybe we are all better off just betting dogs in the NFL from now on. 11 out of 12 dogs either won or covered the spread last week. What the hell is going on?

I am clueless at Caliente so put my teaser last night:
Giants -1.5 at Redskins
Chargers -1 vs Bills, some big player must have put a lot of money on Bills as line went down a full point in the afternoon.

CHARGERS POWER!!! 5-2 in 1st 7 games. I predicted they would have gone 6-1 on 08/15 so I'm off by a game. Well, it could have been if they didn't blow that game w/ the Pats. The loss to the Browns was a legit.
Chargers Power!!! Still stick w/ 6-3 for their last 9 games. "Who's your Daddy???"...well, I'm off a lil' bit so allow me to rephrase that to..."Who's your Uncle????"...
By Athos on Monday, October 29, 2001 - 06:52 am: Edit |
Well I am the non expert but Chargers will crush the Chiefs while I am in Rio trying to get laid.

ok, someone humor me on this one...I assume everyone saw that debacle on Monday night, when the Titans got screwed at the goal line against the Ravens... The refs took away the touchdown, saying that the defense was "offside" instead of encroachment.. When one of the Raven players touched the Titan player before the ball is snapped , isnt that encroachment?? Anyway, from my understanding, if the defensive player is indeed offside, doesnt the offensive team get a choice of declining the penalty? That way the Titans decline, and its a touchdown... So is it safe to say that the ref meant to say encroachment (which means the ball is dead) instead of offside? I dont know what is worse , the refs blown call, or FISHER CALLING A QB SNEAK ON THE GOAL LINE AGAINST THE BIGGEST FRONT 4 in the NFL.....geez, fisher should be fired..
By Ootie on Tuesday, November 13, 2001 - 09:24 pm: Edit |
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong: my understanding is that the referee must stop the play if the defensive offsides results in contact with an offensive player (also if significant penetration across the line into the backfield occurs?), but not if no contact occurs at the line.

Can you imagine if that were the replacement refs doing the same thing. The media would have a fucking field day with that situation.
By Athos on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 - 04:46 am: Edit |
HappyBoy
Was with my honey in hotel room in Rio but with the tv on, on the replay you can see the Ravens LB coming back touch one Titan OL, so play has to be called dead for encroachment.
After reading Ootie there seems to be a question regarding contact??? I clearly saw contact and expected TD called back.
By Wv3056 on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 - 05:09 am: Edit |
BTW, didn't the center spot the ball before he hiked it instead of the referee? The Titans should have been penalized...
Yeah, Fisher deserved to lose cause he had more than 8 minutes to come up with a play and he all he could come up with is a QB sneak. C'mon!!!

A couple of corrections from the previous post:
Trade Flutie for a bag of dirt
Trade Brees for a bucket of Dos XX at CC
Trade Tomlinson for a cheese plate
Trade Mike Riley for Bob Davie

Such fair weather fans
Flutie's had a few rough games, but lets face it, he's the most stable QB we've had since Stan H. retired. I think the problem is more with special teams, and the defence who can't seem to hold anybody when the game is on the line. How many leads have we lost in the fourth quarter this year?
Brees???? Why get rid of him? The 2 quarters he did play this year, he passed for over 200 yards, with a TD pass.
Tomlinson, if he remains healthy, should be able to get 1300 yards rushing, not to mention all the other yards he gets from the short passes.
But I would agree with getting rid of Riley, let the Aztecs have'em. I could have piss my pants when I saw him put Ritchie in to kick that FG last Sunday, and sure enough ol wade hooked it just a little left(Yeah, 20 yards or so).
Just my 2 cents
By Sakebomb on Tuesday, December 04, 2001 - 04:27 pm: Edit |
The problem is with the banged up D. I'm nvr a fan of Riley. What's this guy ever accomplished even at coaching college level?
They should roll out the red carpets and beg for Boss Ross to come back. When he left, the Chargers went down the tube for 5 yrs. Boss Ross-less Detroit is currently at a pathetic 0-11. The guy is a winner and he coached the game w/ passion.
Brees stays!!! He showed great poise in the two quarters he played. Tomlinson & Flutie would be back on track again. Tough remaining sked.

Chargers
Talking about fair weather fan, I attended my first chargers home game in 1984, got season ticket after college and attended every home game until Leaf came to town.
I'll be more than happy to not renew my season ticket as I'd rather hang out in Rio in Nov and watch mnf with a carioca.
This was just a dream...
LT can still become a very good RB
Brees looks like he has potential to be a decent QB in the NFL.
But Riley HAS to go, 3 years of finding new ways to lose games is just pathetic. Take the chargers to lose every game left by a field goal...
Go Bolts, my blood is blue and gold.
Can I die a happy man??? Even the NY Rangers won the cup in Stanley 94... France won the world cup in 98...Wow 2002 could this be...

Talking about real football, how about the game of the year coming?
Rams -7.5 vs 49ers, div on the line
and not too shabby:
Packers -5.5 vs Bears, most balanced game
Steelers vs Jets, J.E.T.S.
Tease the dogs in each game

Jets over the Steeler...LOL
I see only one team capable of beating the Steelers right now..the Rams

Still no line on the Jets game as Jerome Bettis is out looks like. Like I said tease the Jets at +10 or so.

I also like the Jets over the Steelers. Bettis is out and God help them if they are going to depend on Kordell to win for them.

First time visiting this discussion.
Mike Riley is a fool! He's like a little boy blue out there. Definitely out of his league. Think the Chargers can lure the Big Tuna out of retirement? I'm from Massachusetts and watching Parcells was always a joy. A skilled craftsman at work. Don't think I'm fooling anyone though. Seems that Norv Turner is next in line for the Chargers head coaching job.
Once the Chargers are on the cusp of respectability, (which sure looks like is happening) I see Riley being fired. Gotta have a coach who has some prestige, and he has none. Quite like Tim Floyd, coach of the NBA's new embarassment, Chicago Bulls.
In any case...any of you guys in football fantasy leagues online?

Trade Flutie for a used condom...
By Athos on Monday, December 31, 2001 - 04:17 pm: Edit |
Chargers fans...
Who should be our next head coach?
I hope we get a guy with a proven record who can bring hope and discipline to those highly paid athletes.
I vote for Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells may be too old. 3rd choice would be Tony Dungy available after Bucs lose to Eagles in playoffs.
Chargers have talent, give Brees the ball, get Trent Dilfer as backup, blow Flutie to retirement, draft a wide receiver, offensive lineman, backup running back, corner, defensive lineman. Sign 1 or 2 free agents including a kicker.
Trade Junior Seau.
Schedule is tough with realignment, AFC west plays NFC west in 2002. When will the chargers ever compete with the 49ers? I am not even asking for a Superbowl in my lifetime, just sweep the Raiders once in a while and beat the 49ers.
By Daytimer on Monday, December 31, 2001 - 07:10 pm: Edit |
The Chargers have the worst win/lose record of all NFL teams for the past 5 years. That is embarrassing.
Flutie threw for more yards this year than he ever has in his career. He also had a career high for interceptions. He had more yards this year because he played in all the games, which he has not done in the past with his former teams. I think it is time for Flutie to step aside. He has lost his magic. He just does not throw enough TD passes. Brees needs a chance to play.
I can't see Seau being traded. There will be no more quarterbacks acquired. We have what we have now.
I am not so sure the head coach was the problem. It was his assistants and coordinators. The head coach has very little to do nowadays but pace back and forth and make frowns for the TV cameras to pick up.
I think getting rid of Riley was a good move. He was the captain of the ship and the ship sank.
Free agents will be the key for the Chargers next season.

Although I never liked Gastineau and I'm a Giant fan who was hoping that Strahan would break the sack record, the way it was done left a sour taste in my mouth (Favre consulted with Strahan before the play and then he fell to the ground as if he had been shot when Strahan got close to him).

C'mon you guys! What happened to all of the interest in the NFL? And why were there only four respondents to the college football contest? OK, I'm going to have to resort to some very un-Ootie-like tactics to try to generate interest in this weekend's contest. So here goes.
I am the greatest! There's no doubt about it! I kicked all of your butts in the college contest and won the gold medal. Bow down before me, you sniveling servants. So who's man enough to try to take my title away? Probably nobody because all you guys are a bunch of girlie-boys.
How's that? Gee, I should have played Ali instead of Will Smith.
So here's the contest. There's four NFL games this weekend. You must choose which four teams will beat the spread (the spreads below must be used) and also predict if the total points scored will be over or under the respective figures below.
Whoever gets the most right out of the eight selections wins the gold medal and bragging rights for the week. List all of your selections in order of preference (i.e. list your best bet first) because should there be a tie for the gold medal, it will be broken by weighting your selections in the order you list them.
Here's my selections (in order of best bet to worst bet):
8) Jets +4.5
7) Baltimore +3.0
6) Tampa Bay +3.5
5) San Fran vs Green Bay OVER 39 pts
4) San Fran +4.0
3) Tampa Bay vs Philadelphia OVER 33 pts
2) Baltimore vs Miami UNDER 33 pts
1) Jets vs Oakland UNDER 42 pts
May the best hombre win!

Bullitt
For the Oak/Jets game from last sun, remember 1 punt was blocked returned for td, 2 other jets td were basically 1 play drive. What I am saying here is Jets may not be able score that easily on sun. But on the other hand, Raiders kept missing wide open td's so what do I know?
By Aardvark on Wednesday, January 09, 2002 - 06:17 pm: Edit |
If anyone thinks that the Niners even have a chance of getting a close score against the Packers IN Green Bay with the weather in the teens with snow falling...they're loco!

Ootie: I'm in too:
1. Oakland -4.5
2. Oakland/NYJ OVER
3. San Francisco +4
4. Baltimore/Miami UNDER
5. Tampa Bay/Philadelphia UNDER
6. Tampa Bay +3.5
7. San Francisco/GB UNDER
8. Baltimore +3
Look for Oakland to hand it to the Jets this Saturday...I despise the Raiders, btw...

Maybe not both the raiders and jets suck.
It's going to be a cold day but balmy day in Green Bay, first week of very cold weather.
The only game I like is the Eagles game at -3.5.
I believe it is a good weekend to tease if betting on any game as wild card is made up of avg teams.
Even 49ers and Packers are not reliable, check their soft D.
The Miami game is very fishy -2.5 at Caliente, what the heck is up Grbac is horrible but I guess the Dolphins have no O. either.
