MVRC and PQUE look poised for nice up moves. Hopefully they follow through.

I am tempted to dump SGDE, since it is just stagnating, but my regret for selling WINS, EELN, and GADZ in frustration is too fresh in my mind.

All of my covered call trades are working out well. USG is looking healthy, and the others are all well in the money.

I also have my eye on CLZR, which I may be bying soon.

Like I said, I am very good at second guesssing after the fact.

I am still about 30% in bonds, down from 90% a year ago. I have been big in bonds for the past three years. Good quality bonds are so damn high and yields suck, but the Fed. Reserve is talking about dropping rates another 25 basis points. I can't believe we are going to have much more upside on bonds, but who the hell knows?

By Kendricks on Wednesday, June 04, 2003 - 01:40 pm:  Edit

Today turned out to be a nice day for MRVC and PQUE, both of which were up almost 10%.

By Ben on Thursday, June 05, 2003 - 07:15 am:  Edit

Yeah I told you that PQUE was a dog.

This market right now reminds be of the mid ninties when some stocks were going for no fundamental reasons, but just on momentum.

Don't get to greedy, because I still feel we have gone up to fast to quickly.

Approx May 2 I mention briefly a stock AFFX. It was trading at $19.00 and is currently trading at $23.69 and up 25% in a month.

I think it is time for me to sell the July 22 1/2 for $2.15 per share.

I just bought 500 shares of Icos at it 52 week high. This company is losing money, but I think the future of this company is on the rise.

By Ben on Thursday, June 05, 2003 - 08:25 am:  Edit

$36.22 including commissions.

I am not recommending ICOS and of course I and anyone else investing in this company could lose all their money.

By Kendricks on Thursday, June 05, 2003 - 08:45 am:  Edit

I bought some CLZR on stop this morning at 12.47. I think I'll hold SGDE for a while longer even though it's not moving, since the weekly chart still looks pretty damn good, and the fundamentals are killer. I'll have to look at ICOS.

I went to a sales pitch for Investmentools last week. I listened to them explain how their program helps screen the best stocks and analysis them. For only $3000 I could buy into their system, then there is the $600 yearly subscription. I thought they did a great job of maketing their tool. One of their strategies was to use covered calls. Since I don't know shit about this I kept on thinking what would Ben and Kendricks input be about this service. So what do you guys think? Do you know anything about them. They have a website www.investortoolbox.com My thought is that if they are so good, the brokers must be using it. Also, I don't see what would stop a group of us to share the information if we split the cost of the password. Maybe you have something better. Comments please.

i've never invested in the market. i tend to make short term investments with big payouts(also very high ris), that take 2-3 hours to complete. however if this pie thing is on the market i might want to invest---i was thinking if i can't pimp it mabe i should invest in it.

ICOS closed at $38.90 today. An upward movement on the stock.

One would assume that Ldvee's money manager recommended a buy on this stock??? HA!

I guess my TJ weekend is paid for mas y minos.

By Ben on Friday, June 06, 2003 - 07:22 am:  Edit

Never mind Kendricks.

T_Bone won this week unless something rather dramatic happens.

Maybe they will close down the border today???

By Kendricks on Friday, June 06, 2003 - 09:03 am:  Edit

Nayarit, I don't subscribe to any expensive services. I do subscribe to www.optimaloptions.com for $10 a month, as they provide a list of stocks with high paying option premiums. A lot of the stocks are trash, though, it is necessary to do your own research afterwards.

What I do (for my covered call trades) is maintain a list of stocks I like that pay high option premiums. The weekend after expiration day, I go through the whole list, and look up the next month's call prices for each stock. Then, I look for the ones that are paying the highest premium (I like 4% a month or higher net profit), and decide which ones I want to go with.

For this type of trade, I look for companies that have little to no debt, that have positive cash flow and earnings, and that are selling for a reasonable amount above their book value.

Some books that I highly recommend are Value Investing Made Easy by Janet Lowe; Finding Winners Among Depressed and Low-Priced Stocks: Discovering Hidden Values in the Stock Market by Richard L. Evans; and How I Made 2,000,000 in the Stock Market by Nicolas Darvas.

None of those books actually describes my method, which is one I have pulled together from a variety of sources. Of all the books that I read, though, these are the ones that I found the most useful ideas in. You may also want to do some reading here: http://biz.yahoo.com/opt/education.html

Although other people's ideas are good for insipration, ultimately, you need to deveop your own method. Everyone (who puts in the effort) comes up with their own style of trading that makes sense to them, and their own indicators that they like. I personally like covered call writing and a combination of bottom feeding and momentum trading. The criteria I use for both of these types of trades is dramatically different.

If you do happen to read any of the books I mentioned, I would be interested to hear your thoughts. Each of the books that I mentioned triggered profitable epiphanies, which is more than I can say for most business books I have read.

I would avoid throwing thousands of dollars to these seminar guys, though. I don't think it is necessary for one, and I also think the chance is high you would just be paying for ideas that can be found from a $20 book, couched in a bunch of hype.

By Kendricks on Friday, June 06, 2003 - 09:47 am:  Edit

After rereading my post, I wanted to clarify a couple of points:

1. The covered call and the bottomfeeding/momentum trades are separate and distinct from each other. I don't write calls on the bottom feeding trades.

2. Almost all of the covered calls I write are "in the money", meaning I sell options at a strike price lower than the current price of the stock.

By Nayarit on Friday, June 06, 2003 - 10:49 am:  Edit

Kendricks,
Thanks for the information; before I start any investing on my own, I'll read the books you suggested. The answer you gave me was pretty technical compared to my knowledge base, so you intimidated me like I thought you would. You probably intended to do that as you wanted to steer me away from Investools. Since I'm a hands on learner, I'd love the opportunity to just look over your shoulder sometime. But I'll do my reading first.

By Kendricks on Friday, June 06, 2003 - 01:45 pm:  Edit

Hi Nayarit. I wasn't trying to intimidate you, it is just impossible to explain what I do without going into technical specifics. I regularly post about what I do in the market, as the feedback I get, as well as the process of putting my thoughts into writing, both help me. If you decide to start doing some reading and study, you will probably be glad you did. There are ways to take money out of the market, but it does require understanding of what you and others are doing.

By Dogster on Friday, June 06, 2003 - 05:39 pm:  Edit

Nayarit, there are five key words in Kendricks’ (intimidating?) post that are worth remembering:

“I personally like … bottom feeding.”

Ok, I just had to point that out.

dow 9100 next week

SURE is dropping should I buy back in and recoup my losses?? NAW. Piece of shit stock. Besides the hired hand was busy Friday. The Ldvee mutual fund is now composed of 60 companies. Money pretty much equally spread among them. Almost all are recognizable names. I think a bit light on technology issues, but that's his style. Maybe I'll discuss it with him.

By Kendricks on Monday, June 09, 2003 - 08:33 am:  Edit

I took profits on PQUE, but may get back in if it drops back down near its lows. I still think that it may explode, but I wanted to lock some profits in.

By Ben on Monday, June 09, 2003 - 08:54 am:  Edit

Currently SGDE is at $10.35 (high for the day) on good volume.

It could be the company is buying back stock?

Good luck!

I like this small cap value stock and wish I had bought some last week at under $10.

ICOS getting hit pretty hard today.

I may have to ask Honey Pie for some money back.

I have made a couple of clubhombre type posts on the ICOS yahoo board today. Reaction so far is one guy wanting more details and another guy basically suggesting that I am lying about my experiences in TJ.

By T_bone on Monday, June 09, 2003 - 02:14 pm:  Edit

Very entertaining read of the ICOS board. These non-believers have never been south of the border.

Excellent posts on the ICOS board. I added a few comments myself!

When you mentioned ICOS last week, I didn't realize that they had produced an improved Viagra-type drug. Are the comments about euphoria and well being true? I could use a little "better living through chemistry" today...

By Sandman on Monday, June 09, 2003 - 04:32 pm:  Edit

Ken-You need to try Cialis. Time released over a 24 hour period, no rushes like V but a little more expensive and yes...a little euphoria!

By Kendricks on Monday, June 09, 2003 - 06:56 pm:  Edit

Sounds fun. I still haven't even tried V yet. I've heard it is a lot of fun whether you need it or not, but I still worry about the effects of using it when I am too young, before I actually have any real need for it.

Is there are real basis for my fear? I don't think these drugs have been out long enough to study their long term effects. My thinking is, if you need to use it, go for it - what do you have to lose? But if you don't need it, is it worth the risk?

By Ben on Monday, June 09, 2003 - 09:23 pm:  Edit

I Took my second Cialis at 1:00 today and yes it definitely gives you a slight, but positive mood swing.

Oh the important part. I hooked up with a very angry SugarPie at around 5:00 today and the big fella was also the happy fella for about three hours until I crossed back to the U.S. I think he would be ready for his fourth try in less than six hours if there were someone handy at my house.

It will definitely have a major effect on the Viagra market. Excellent stuff

By Ben on Monday, June 09, 2003 - 10:22 pm:  Edit

Kendricks,

Thanks for the support.

This Cialis is definitely going to take a large market share away from Viagra.

Viagra really hits you hard as compared to Cialis. C is definitely more natural feeling with no side effects such as flush face, headache, red eyes and sometimes upset stomach.

It also lasts for up to 36 hours as compared to V is usually getting weak after 4-6 hours. Although I have found that V does sometimes still work the next morning.

By Ldvee on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 - 06:29 am:  Edit

Ah, excuse me if this question has already been answered but is Cialis in the TJ drugstores? Is this the stuff that I've read is for sale in Europe that lasts for the "weekend"?

I read the ICOS posts and got a kick out of the Puritan responses. "Depravity" come on.

We are a lucky bunch.

BTW, I've often thought investing in companies that have products geared towards the gentrification of Americans (gray haired baby boomers) is a good idea. Is FLE a possibility?

By Sandman on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 - 06:31 am:  Edit

Ken & Ben (sounds like an ice cream)-Viagra has become one of the most popular enhancement drugs in history. Most of the guys who take it don't really need to. They just stay rock hard longer and sessions tend to last a lot longer as well.

Now, having said that, the side effects, flushed face, headache, heartburn, red eyes etc has just been accepted as part of the program for "Blue Steel".

Now, with Cialis, no bad side effects, longer time released staying power and a small amount of euphoria, it will probably replace Viagra as the male pharmacology selection of choice. Yes, guys will take it whether they need a little help or not just because it will allow them multiple sessions within a very short time period and keep them rock hard. Better mongering through pharmacology.....

Maybe we should all short Pfizer he he!

By Kendricks on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 - 07:08 am:  Edit

I have to admit, it does sound like a miracle drug. What can you say about a drug that puts steel in your rod for 36 hours, has no bad side effects, and even gives you a mild euphoric feeling on the side?

I cashed out of all my non-option trades this morning for a nice overall profit, except for CLZR, which I expect to come back up to at least near my entry level.

By Ldvee on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 - 07:27 am:  Edit

Sandman,

I fall into the don't really need it but it is better with it category. I take it so round 2 and sometimes 3 happens quicker. Without it I'm finished for the day after 1 pop unless she's outstanding. Fortunately I've never felt any side affects from Viagra.

Since I'm into the multiple opportunity aspects of these drugs Cialis sounds even better.

Soooooooo, can I get it in TJ?

I've owned PFE for several years and have recently sold 1/3 my position and increased my AMGN position, more biotech than pharma.

By Ben on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 - 07:48 am:  Edit

Ldvee,

I don't think you can buy it in TJ, but I will find out today. Lets see Friday, Saturday, Monday and now Tuesday. I should receive an award for what I will do for research and to benefit my fellow man.

Good decision on Amgen. I use to own 800 shares of Amgen and took a nice profit at around $50. Just like with sex, I pull the trigger too quickly.

I took the Cialis yesterday around 2:00 and I am going to be in TJ around 4:00 so we will see if it last for 36 hours.

Kendricks,

Did you sell your SGDE?

By the way you guys, I am just like you in that I don't need this stuff, I just use it for recreation.

As you know, my hired hand does the stock picking so I'll pass along the compliment.

TIA for the research. I always use the pharmacy directly across the street from the right side revolving gate.

But I guess that's not a player for hot shots with Sentri passes that drive across.

Maybe someday you'll figure out that my MO is the best. Find a chica with a car that will pick you up at the border. Of course in your case you'll need to buy her the car and teach her to drive after you get a car seat so she can see above the steering wheel 8^)

Yeah, I took a quick profit on SGDE at 10.60, but I might get back in on a pullback. I really don't like the low volume languishing that this stock is capable of, though, even though its fundamentals are great.

By Ben on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 - 09:10 am:  Edit

Kendricks,
It seems to me that SGDE is the perfect example of a small cap value stock that is being ignored. Its had a crummy growth rate over the last year which is reflected in its PE, but other fundementals are very strong.

They will either have to figure out a way to kick up their earnings or have an ourside buyer come in to make this stock really get going. Something needs to happen! I would guess the company is managed more like a private business than a publically traded company.

Ldvee,
I know exactly what drugstore you are talking about and yes, how handy to buy your drugs while waiting for your novia.

I know a pharmacist who owns a drug store on seventh street about 3-4 blocks off of Revolucion who speaks perfect englisg and who can call his supplier to see if a drug is being distributed in TJ/Mexico. I will try to talk to him today.

By Ben on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 - 09:16 am:  Edit

Actually the growth rate on SGDE is better than I thought. It really does have good fundementals, but very little interest from the brokerage community.

By Kendricks on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 - 01:46 pm:  Edit

By Kendricks on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 - 08:27 am:  Edit

Another up day for PQUE. Whoopie! I guess I should be happy, though, as this is evidence that my bottom feeding strategy can pick some big winners. I wish I didn't get out for a measly 15% profit, though.
