Dogster,
Great pics! I was watching the game on a big screen at ScoreBoard and it was as loud as it could get...this is what playoff basketball is all about!
Re: Sac,
Them losing proves my point about that team and b-ball in general. all you sac fans can't stop talking about how deep sac is and how they have 10 guys who could start on most teams. but, when cwebb goes down, all of a sudden they are whining about the injury; what about all that depth? if they are so deep, why was one injury such an issue. my only disappointment is that now they have an excuse (not to mention amnesia) to explain yet another playoff loss.
Lakers backs all against the wall...this series now must go to a 7 game...damn you Horry!
-Jarocho
It will be funny to see how many of you Laker Fans switch bandwagons for to the Clippers next year when they make it to the finals.
Jeez, and here I thought Bitchster had wrapped up "stupidest," "angriest," "most tunnel vision impaired" and "drunkest poster."
Hee hee, such beautiful irony. Clueless middle aged losers rule.
Dogster, sometimes it's better if you just watch.

Damn Ref's
Lakers were screwded by the ref's last night.
We need some good officiating for a change. 27 free throws for the Spurs and only 17 for the Lakers(I think). But who is counting?
Looking more like a final of the Mavs and the Spurs.
OMG an all Texas final.
Yeah I know the winner has to play the East winner. Like I said the final is who wins the West.
Dogster, save your money for Rio.
Fer God sakes, Blazers, stick to writing trip reports.
"Dogster, you have to be the most myopic Laker fan in history. You are never critical of your team."
Translation: "Waaaaahhhhh" - Blazers
Speaking of myopic, Blazers, you've been talking all year about the greatness of the Jail-Blazers, and how well they were gonna do this year. See that B I G, B L U R R Y "E" at the top of the eye chart? It stands for "Erased".
Blazers, you are such a myopic Laker-hater that it is affecting your memory and reasoning ability. I'll never forget your reaction last year when I was somewhat critical of Wilt's game. You said I was biased against Wilt because I was a Lakers fan, or something like that. One of these days it may dawn on you that Wilt was in fact a Laker, but lets not get too confused by facts (or I'll have to accuse you of being Superman). I think you also accused me of being a Celtics fan when I praised Bill Russell. I have to be careful when I say that Duncan deserved the MVP this year. It is probably my myopic Lakers bias showing itself again.
Anyway, y'all. That was a great Lakers-Spurs game last night. With the Lakers down 3-2, the postseason is finally getting started. In the postgame interview, Duncan really had a deer-in-the-headlights expression, like he just avoided being flattened into a Bambi-burger. Even so, I expect him to play extremely well in game 7...
I think C1 makes the key point about all the Sacramento bluster. It is a real shame that CWeb went down, and it actually could cost them their series with the lowly Dallas Mavs. But all these claims about the depth and talent of Sacramento don't seem to be panning out. I wish that Bibby would show up -- he could and should make it interesting.
I'll be at the Lakers game on Thursday, screaming out what is left of my lungs. I won't have my usual great seats, but I'll have good ones, and passes to the various clubs within the arena.
Dogster, you know and I know that Laker fans will never truly accept Wilt as a Laker. I also like how you respond to your lack of criticism of your team with "wahh" Real intelligent.
Play the game before you make comments of having true knowledge of who is the best at such and such position. Casual observers have some perspective but not the entire perspective. I am not positive whether you have or have not played organized bball....but I doubt it.
By the way, I realize how horrible of an organization Portland is...it was just wishful thinking on my part to think that their talent might actually rise to the top.
I only hate the Lakers because I they kick my Blazers ass every year and I am from Northern California. If you are from Nor Cal, you are taught at a young age to hate LA and everything that worthless city stands for.
For the record, I dont think any of us have to imagine what it would be like to see Wilt and Michael play together...we are watching it right now with Shaq and Kobe. I respect Kobe more than any other player in the NBA...a true class act. Shaq is a different story, the guys whines his ass off when the Lakers lose and has never given credit to the SPurs winning a ring...even though they swept the Lakers. No matter how long that season was...nobody was going to beat the Spurs.
Another reason I dont like the Lakers is that the Lakers are loved by the NBA and the NBA will do whatever it takes for them to continue their dynasty...call it conspiracy theory or whatever you want....I truly believe it and so do other non-laker fans. It's easy for Laker fans to call us whiners when every single break and crucial game has been officiated in their favor for this team. The Magic Johnson Laker teams did it on their own without any outside help...in fact, there were a few rings taken away from the Lakers due to some horrific, biased officiating in favor of the Celtics. Oh how quickly Laker fans forget their own conspiracies about Celtic favoritism.
C1, good point about the Kings possibly choking away this series to the "lowly" Mavs (who were tied for the best record in the NBA)... The double OT game was costly.. Divac again had a chance to put it away on the FT line, and bricked two shots, (Sac could have had a 4 point lead with 13 seconds left)... Last night, Divac gets into foul trouble in the 3rd, and the Kings lose their aggression, settling for outside shots and bricking every one.. I still think the kings will win game 7, and if they can play D, with Bibby showing up, and Divac stays out of foul trouble, they beat the Mavs..
“Dogster, you know and I know that Laker fans will never truly accept Wilt as a Laker.”
Ok, you’ve made that statement before and you are still hallucinating. L.A. loved and loves Wilt; they completely accepted him. He played a major role in bringing L.A. its first championship, and L.A. never forgot that. The real clincher here is Wilt’s own reaction to L.A. Although he was born in some armpit city on the east coast that he abandoned repeatedly, he chose to live the last 30 years or so of his life in L.A. Not Philly, not San Francisco, not Kansas, not anywhere but the town that accepted him warmly. And if you know anything about Wilt, you know that he loved L.A. The friends he saw the most were former Lakers, such as Jerry West and Gail Goodrich. He was always encouraged to come to Laker games, where he was very popular during his rare appearances. He loved Santa Monica’s beach volleyball scene and the Hollywood scene; both contributed to his most vital statistic. And, the Hollywood that Wilt loved will soon complete a movie in his honor, complete with Lakerfan/Wilt lovefests.
“I also like how you respond to your lack of criticism of your team with "wahh" Real intelligent.”
I’ve criticized the Lakers a few times on this thread, and have given props to plenty of non-Lakers. That isn’t the point. The point is that I’m getting a good laugh out of your bitter conspiracy theory.
“Play the game before you make comments of having true knowledge of who is the best at such and such position. Casual observers have some perspective but not the entire perspective. I am not positive whether you have or have not played organized bball....but I doubt it.”
LOL!!!!
“By the way, I realize how horrible of an organization Portland is...it was just wishful thinking on my part to think that their talent might actually rise to the top.
I only hate the Lakers because I they kick my Blazers ass every year and I am from Northern California.”
Ahh, now you are making sense. I’m sure this doesn’t bias your perspective.
“If you are from Nor Cal, you are taught at a young age to hate LA and everything that worthless city stands for.”
I grew up in L.A. and left for the Bay Area when I was 17. I’ve lived in Berkeley, San Francisco, Oakland, and Marin off and on since then, for a total of 7+ years. I’m not a great fan of L.A., but the basketball team is one thing that they do right. Although I generally prefer NoCal to SoCal, the NoCal hatred of SoCal is ridiculously myopic. The 2 places are more similar than different. And having lived in the pacific northwest, I can definitely say that there are more Laker/SoCal haters in NoCal than in the pacific northwest.
“For the record, I dont think any of us have to imagine what it would be like to see Wilt and Michael play together...we are watching it right now with Shaq and Kobe. I respect Kobe more than any other player in the NBA...a true class act. Shaq is a different story, the guys whines his ass off when the Lakers lose and has never given credit to the SPurs winning a ring...even though they swept the Lakers. No matter how long that season was...nobody was going to beat the Spurs.”
Some interesting points. I agree with them to a point. Shaq is a disturbed, spoiled nutcake, but has grown since coming under Phil’s sage tutelage. Neither Shaq or Kobe is particularly likeable. Super Brat 1 and Super Brat 2 play well together because of Phil Jackson, world’s greatest babysitter (a statement I’ve made previously. Hint: criticism of the Lakers) The real NBA rivalry is between San Antonio and the Lakers (both recent championship teams), and does not include the Kings.
“Another reason I dont like the Lakers is that the Lakers are loved by the NBA and the NBA will do whatever it takes for them to continue their dynasty...call it conspiracy theory or whatever you want....I truly believe it and so do other non-laker fans. It's easy for Laker fans to call us whiners when every single break and crucial game has been officiated in their favor for this team.”
I may be wrong, but I think this is utter bull_shit. And you are embellishing…
“The Magic Johnson Laker teams did it on their own without any outside help...in fact, there were a few rings taken away from the Lakers due to some horrific, biased officiating in favor of the Celtics. Oh how quickly Laker fans forget their own conspiracies about Celtic favoritism.”
Get over that conspiracy shit. When the hated Celtics beat the Lakers, it wasn’t because of the refs. The refs have a hard job and they do the best they can.
Spurs in 6. As predicted. Ho fucking hum.
The more interesting aspect of the Lakers oh-so predictable loss is what now happens to the team? This group has always been emotionally fragile and prone to infighting, but winning has kept things under control. I think things are about to get interesting.
What also happens to the board loser who's self-worth is so desperately tied to the success and failure of his team? The guy was already explosively angry, bitter, and unstable ... and that's while his team was winning championships! What happens now that his self worth has been reduced to a shit stain on Superman's drawers?
Should be an interesting offseason.
-Superman-
Great run for the Lakers!! Spurs were better and they deserve to win the entire thing this year. It should be interesting to see who the Lakers might want to bring next year at power forward...Karl Malone? Juwan Howard? P.J. Brown? Keon Clark? Hopefully, P. Jackson will decide to come back...and now that the Lakers are gone...Go MAVS!
By Athos on Thursday, May 15, 2003 - 09:18 pm: Edit |
Tim Duncan was phenomenal...the MVP. The admiral is a shell of himself. Spurs in 6 in conference final. Nets can beat them but will lose in 6.

9-6-02
Lakers repeat is doubtful. -Superman-
Yawn. Why did they even play the season?
9-15-02
then we can celebrate the 4-peat now ~bitchster~
When?
9-15-02
when they toss Webber in the pokey. ~bitchster~
Nice "prediction."
9-15-02
Yeah, Webber will go to jail! Just like Iverson will be in jail at the start of the season. -Superman-
Better prediction.
12-05-02
The Lakers are done, close the fridge or whatever the dead guy used to say. -Superman-
Outstanding foresight.
1-13-03
I made [the graphs] REAL easy to understand ~bitchster~
I bet that graph makes sense to drunk guys.
1-21-03
the West will win the championship anyway (not the Lakers though).
-Superman-
Am I repeating myself?
3-9-03
As I (and nobody else here) have maintained all season, the Lakers remain the team to beat. ~bitchster~
He got the nobody else part right ...
3-9-03
L.A. will be as irrelevant as the East come San Antonio and Sacramento ... maybe next year. -Superman-
Some people just understand basketball. More than likely, these people actually played the game.
4-7-03
Even Dogster knows the Lakers are finished ... or maybe you missed his subtle (as a Shaq free throw) "out" when he praised San Antonio.
-Superman-
Inevitibility sucks. Realizing Superman has been right since before the season began sucks even more.
4-7-03
The drunkengraph is already half wrong. When the Lakers fail to win the title, it'll be a 100 percent failure. Given the author, a 100 percent failure is no surprise. -Superman-
Bitchster has officially achieved 100 percent failure. Again.
4-10-03
Lakers just better hope they can avoid San Antonio in the first round, or it will be a quick exit from the playoffs. -Superman-
I really need a challenge.
4-10-03
Looks like you are wrong again, “superman,” as usual. ~bitchster~
I've finally figured it out! "Wrong" is Bitchster's code for "right all the time." Now I get it!
4-13-03
Lost in the embarrassment is the very reason L.A. won't win the title this year ... it is ridiculous to think everyone on the team will be able to click for 4 of 7 games against SA, Sac or probably even Dallas.
-Superman-
Well, they managed to click for 2 games ...
4-16-03
Oh well, (the Lakers) are just prolonging their own agony. -Superman-
They prolonged it all the way to the second round ...
4-17-03
"Oh well, they are just prolonging their own agony."
LOL...thanks I really needed to laugh today!! ~jarochster~
I'm glad I made you laugh. Still laughing?
4-27-03
I don't know why everyone is getting worked up about this [Lakers-Wolves] series ... neither team is going to win the title, so it's irrelevant. -Superman-
Crystal clear vision, unclouded by myopia.
4-29-03
It was a real shame to lose Fox, but the team has enough depth to cover that loss. ~bitchster~
Medevenko, Medevenko, Medevenko!
5-03-03
My oh-so-bold prediction: Spurs over Lakers in 6. -Superman-
Spurs 4 Lakers 2. Bitchster, use some of that Berkeley math and tell me if that adds up to 6 ...
5-08-03
For those with a myopic Lakerland view, this [Spurs] series (and even the Minnesota series) is shocking. For people who understand basketball and can grasp the concept of team depth and talent, it is completely expected. -Superman-
I could not have said it better myself ... errr. Brilliant!
5-12-03
the Spurs are currently the classiest act in the NBA and will say that even after my beloved Lakers dispense with them. ~bitchster~
I give credit where credit is due ... bitchster was actually half right. Shocking. Of course, he then opens mouth and inserts foot.
5-12-03
THE CONTEST FOR DUMBEST POSTER ON THE NBA THREAD THIS WEEK IS PRETTY CLOSE. ~bitchster~
However, the contest for DUMBEST POSTER IN THE HISTORY OF THE NBA THREAD is not close at all. All hail Bitchster!!!!
5-8-03
Never fear, Laker fans! I'm sure your heroes can win 4 of the next 5 from a team they are 0-6 against this year. Have faith! -Superman-
Brilliant! Well, I guess anyone who has a solid grasp of statistics could have spewed similar sarcasm ...
______________________________________________________________________
Well, there we have it. Another absolutely dominating win for Superman ... some may even say Bitchster was completely eviscerated by the mighty one. Again.
I may throw Bitchster another bone in about a year, just to keep his hopes up, but I would not count on it.
The only thing more amusing to me than collecting these bits of basketball genius was reading the absolute vitriol and hatred spewed by bitchster throughout the year. Jeez man, relax! Projection sucks!
I will detail bitchster's absolute hatred of his own life in a future post. Stay tuned.
-Superman-
that was great.. Kings stay alive, overcome Van Excels 38 pts and basically outrebound and out free throw their way to victory in game six, forcing a game 7 in Dallas.. Even though the experts are now picking the spurs to win it all, I still have faith the kings can come thru and win on saturday... PROVIDED THAT...
Divac doesnt get into foul trouble..
The Kings outrebound the Mavs and go inside..
Van Excel doesnt show up and loses his head..
Bibby decides to show up for game 7 (He had 4 POINTS IN GAME 6) ...
Well, there you have it, not too much to ask for.. If the Mavs blow this one at home, it would be a total embarrassment to the organization, since the kings have their leading scorer and rebounder sitting on the bench..
"LOS ANGELES (AP) - Kobe Bryant left the court in tears as the three-year championship reign of the Los Angeles Lakers came to a decisive end."
Bwahahahahaha! Whiny little bitch.
"'I hate this feeling, I don't ever want to feel it again,' Bryant said Thursday night after a 110-82 loss to the San Antonio Spurs."
Oh, boo fucking hoo. Get used to it, cunt.
If it is any consolation to Kobe "Kunta Kinte" Bryant, Dogster and the rest of the Lakers bandwaggoners must be suicidal this morning.
It is bad enough that they live vicariously through a silly-ass sports team with an oxymoronic name, but now their heroes have had their asses handed to them, and left their token homosexual player bawling his womanly eyes out.
The salsa is off the taco. The ass cheeks are jiggling, the semen is dripping from the rectum, and Kobe's bunghole needs reconstructive surgery if it will ever again shut. At least that Chick Hearn asshole died before having to endure this level of humiliation.
Ah, what a beautiful year so far! First Iraq, and now the Lakers get their asses handed to them in embarrassingly one-sided defeats. How sweet it is...

OMG,
Say it ain't so Joe, I mean Kendricks?
The two badasses on this board hate the Lakers?
Porque?
I think the Lakers got screwed and would have only lost by maybe 15 points if those fuckin ref's had done their job. Did anybody count the number of fowls/fouls the Lakers had in comparison to the Spurs?
It looks like a a conspiracy, Oh never mind!!
Oh, Tim Duncan had another lucky night and I have heard he is being traded to the Lakers where it will be Malone, Duncan, O'Neal as the starting front next year.
What are we going to talk about now that Superman has been proven right and Dogster is in the dog house?
By Erip on Friday, May 16, 2003 - 09:32 am: Edit |
So Phil's arteries got clogged...just flesh and blood after all. The Voodoo spell is broken...the Lakers float back down to earth. There will be peace in the middle east; Al Queda will renounce terrorism, the sun will shine in the rain forest; pandas and condors will reproduce like rabbits; the hungry will be fed; Milkman will pay sgs for double wrapped missionary sex; Tijuana entrepreneurs will acquire fundamental business sense; a 100% effective HIV vaccine will be available to all; Revo barkers, zona massage hawkers and guides (except Franco), and padrotes (except one I'm kind of fond of) will be blown out deep into the ocean by a furious smartwind...but at the same time prostitution will be legalized and available at reasonable prices in Norteamerica. Thank you Spurs! Thank you!
Say Hallelujah, say Amen.
I fucking hate the Lakers and everything they represent, along with their fair weather bandwagon fans. At least we won't have to see those ugly-ass yellow flags all over socal again this year, or ever again, for the forseeable future. I think I'm going to hold a Lakers flag burning rally tonight in front of the Staples center.
Congrats to Superman for being right yet again. I read through this thread this morning, and was stunned at the amazing degree of accuracy with which he predicted this entire saga. Truly amazing.
Dogster, if you ever get over your imagined superiority complex, you will realize that there are a lot of people on this board who could really teach you a great deal. You are, indeed, your own worst enemy.
Erip, It's already happening
The best rapper is white.
The best album is Black.
The French are calling the Americans arrogant.
The Germans don't want to go to war,
and on top of all that, the Cubs are in 1st.
By Ben on Friday, May 16, 2003 - 10:21 am: Edit |
Wait a fuckin minute!!!
Dogsters imagined superiority complex is not imagined.
Dogster's complex may not be imagined, but his superiority sure as hell is.
And the best Golfer is Black or is he white ?
Who wants to be white anyways ?
Milktuff
And the most powerful men in washington are named Dick and Bush. Whats the world coming to?
props to San Antonio. 110-82. Ouch.
"The salsa is off the taco. The ass cheeks are jiggling, the semen is dripping from the rectum, and Kobe's bunghole needs reconstructive surgery if it will ever again shut. At least that Chick Hearn asshole died before having to endure this level of humiliation. "
Ok, that was hilarious, you fucker. Yup, I predicted wrong this year regarding the Lakers. Four-get it.
Great run for the Lakers!! Spurs were better this year and they deserve to win the entire thing this year. It should be interesting to see who the Lakers might want to bring next year at power forward... Hopefully it will be somebody good and not the used up Karl Malone, who would struggle with other players and the triangle. Hopefully, P. Jackson will decide to come back...
Congrats to Superman for his sophisticated analytical skills and many, many correct NBA predictions... Sacramento in 2002... Lakers not making it to the Playoffs in 2003... Lakers losing to the Timberwolves... etc., etc, etc. Congrats in advance for predicting Sacramento in 2003. Thanks for being an amusing and highly reactive target -- you are the best.
The Lakers finally have a true rival, now that the Spurs have won 2 NBA championships in 5 years...
Anyway, thanks to all who participated in the NBA thread / smackfest so far this year, even if you are Laker Haters. Great fun....
Yours in whoring
Jarocho a.k.a. Sam a.k.a. Dogster
LOL! Bitchster's lack of reading comprehension skill never fails to make me laugh.
Lakers to miss the playoffs ... LOL! Minnesota over LA. LOL!! Okay, this will be easier for you ... "See Spot run." Even you should be able to read and comprehend that.
And the best part ... "Thanks for being an amusing and highly reactive target." Hee hee ... when I feel like taking the time, I will show how you are the most explosively reactive and negative target since TMoney himself.
Don't ever change buddy ... I'd be bored without you.
-Superman-
Sixers lose ... damn, cuz of Orlando's collossal collapse, Philly got stuck playing the one team in the East that was a horrible matchup for them.
Iverson literally choked away two games ... and Keith Van Kukoc didn't show up. Hard to say Philly did not win the Mutombo trade, since Deke hardly played at all this year, but damn.
Oh well, no big deal ... I was out buying a new car during game 6 ... a really, really nice piece of pure driving evil ... so I can't be too broken up about Philly ;)
Are the Yankees still in first place?
-Superman-
Kings lose, they choked another series away, and, yes, they SHOULD have beat the Mavs, even without Webber.. Divac is just getting too old, and the Mavs had just too much firepower.. Expect to see some changes in the Kings lineup next year, Divac possibly retiring, pollard , funderburke and maybe turk leaving, kings need a big center.
Nah, Kings could not have been expected to beat an excellent Mavericks team on the road without Webber. They would have gotten chewed up by San Antonio in the conference finals anyway.
What a shame ... injuries cost the Kings home court this year and then Webber goes down. If it wasn't for bad luck ...
A fully loaded Kings team would have annihilated LA ... that's what I really wanted to see. I would have probably called a sweep or in 5.
Sac's window of opportunity appears to be closing ... Spurs should be good for a long time, considering they are young and deep. Word is they are going to go after Jason Kidd in the offseason, which would make them pretty much unbeatable. Even if they get "stuck" with Parker, he's still only 21 years old.
-Superman-
(Message edited by Superman on May 17, 2003)
The Spurs understand they have the best "young" point guard in the NBA..no need for Kidd. They will go after Jermaine O'Neal or another super forward...then noone will beat them.
Oh well, no big deal ... I was out buying a new car during game 6 ... a really, really nice piece of pure driving evil ... so I can't be too broken up about Philly ;)
LOL!!! Congrats on your new penis extension... errr... new vehicle. Were the training wheels extra? Who knows? Maybe you'll be less insecure now. And with Kendricks cleaning out your bung hole with his tongue, you are sitting pretty. Sorry that your pet team lost. Gotta love fair weather fans...
Nah, Kings could not have been expected to beat an excellent Mavericks team on the road without Webber. They would have gotten chewed up by San Antonio in the conference finals anyway.
LOL!!! Let me be the first to congratulate you on your keen hindsight and attempt at revisionist history. This is the guy who blasted Webber all this season and last, and talked about how deep the Queens were. Now he's crying violently in his beer... or is that a steroid shake? Gotta love fair weather fans...
That "excellent" Mavs team is almost certainly gonna be stomped out of existence shortly. My condolences in advance.
What a shame ... injuries cost the Kings home court this year and then Webber goes down. If it wasn't for bad luck ... A fully loaded Kings team would have annihilated LA ... that's what I really wanted to see. I would have probably called a sweep or in 5.
LOL!!!! More whining. If only.... if only.... Your new strategy of predicting the outcome of games that will never happen is perfectly brilliant. This way you avoid your historical tendency of being consistently proven wrong. Bravo. Bra vo.
Lakers were ready to stomp the Queens again this year. It is a shame we won't get to see it.
I give you enormous credit for not whining about the refs this time. So keep trying.
Gotta love it -- the Queens, Sixers, and Celtics all eliminated. I'm guessing (not predicting) it'll be New Jersey in the East. I enjoy watching the success of Byron Scott, who will be the Lakers' head coach some day. Keep an eye on Jason Collins, backup center.
By Scarus on Sunday, May 18, 2003 - 03:53 pm: Edit |
Being a die hard Laker fan my whole life, it's hard for me to retain much interest after their elimination, but I wanted to post a final message recognizing that the Spurs truly were the better team and that Duncan's performance in game 6 was truly a "career defining game".
Any asteriks this year will have to placed next to the Lakers name. (The year the Lakers woke up and smelled the coffee)
It looks like this loss has finally made the Lakers realize that it doesn't make sense to hang onto over the hill/never were players, simply because they were part of the team success in previous years.
It also makes me proud that the Laker fans are still not the ones whining on this board.
Till next season,
Scarus
LOL at Bitchster again!! Based on your history in the NBA thread, you should probably just save face and shut up. If you don't open your mouth, you can't stick your foot in. Sometimes it's better if you just watch. LOL.

Lakers interesting offseason has already begun ... Phil publicly rips Shaq for missing a meeting. This offseason should be an excellent soap opera. Bitchster is apparently in meltdown mode as well ...

LOL, double LOL, LOL X 100!!!!!
Poor superman. Try not to bust a vein. Based on your gloriously brain-dead history on the NBA thread, not to mention all of this site, you should probably keep puckering. If you don't open your mouth, you won't be able to suck Kendrick's dick anymore. Protein deficiency sucks!!!! A thousand LOLs.
Scarus, there's still plenty of great basketball left, so I plan to watch some of it. I agree that Duncan is amazing to watch, a true champion, and believe that he continues to be the best player in the NBA, completely deserving of his MVP award. If he stays healthy and on top of his game, he will win San Antonio another championship -- a huge feat in this era of big-market champs. And Robinson deserves a good send-off. I wish that the Spurs had a better offensive scheme, a la the Triangle or Princeton offenses. But the Spurs, more than any other team, "get" the team concept. When Phil Jackson made that "asterisk" comment about the Spurs' first championship, it wasn't one of his better moments.
If, like me, you weren't a Dull Harris fan when he "coached" the Lakers, you will enjoy seeing his Mavs removed. Conversely, it is great to see Van Exel doing well, re-vitalizing his game, and making everybody on his team look good. Trading that former superbrat was one of Jerry West's glaring mistakes, right up there with the Jones/Campbell trade for Rice. (As much as I liked Jerry West, I thought he was somewhat overrated as a GM. He gets waaaay too much credit for the Lakers' successes). As much as I don't care for Don Nelson's whacked out coaching and strategies, he seems to have actually re-vitalized his career after bombing elsewhere coaching Gen-X spoiled brats. Mark Cuban's histrionic antics should be entertaining; I'm curious to see if this guy ultimately sinks or swims.
The Nets are interesting because (a) they have lots of playoff experience, (b) they have a great coach in former Laker Byron Scott, (c) their Princeton offense is almost as formidable as the Triangle, (d) they have Jason Kidd, (e) they are habitual Celtic Killers, and (f) they are the deepest team in the east. Everybody loves to count the east out (including me), but the Nets have more upside than most people know.
Detroit is interesting because of Ben Wallace, and the team's mercurial rise to respectability in the east. Wallace's guts are amazing to watch, and he is reminiscent of the great, great Bill Russell. Nobody knows how he'll perform during NBA crunch time, and lots of people are unaware of just how good he is. If he is able to crank it up a couple notches, as Russell used to do, then we will be treated to an amazing show. Wallace vs. Duncan in the finals would be fun to watch, but don't bet on it happening.
Regarding the Lakers, I think it made sense to hang on to those older players who (a) know the system, (b) know each others' style, and (c) know how to win championships. Jackson and Auerbach both know the importance of this, which is one big reason for their many successes. Players have off years, especially after numerous extended seasons being on top, but that doesn't warrant a massive dump of talent. Much depends on (a) Jackson's desire to continue, (b) Buss's desire to spend what it takes, and (c) the motivation of Shaq and Kobe to continue improving their games. If Shaq in particular uses the offseason to improve his fitness and focus, then next season will be exciting. But if he shlubs out again this year, then it could mean significant trouble. He's too heavy to maintain his quickness or his health. And how will he deal with the continuing ascent of Kobe?
If Jackson does not return, that could also mean big trouble. He's an incredible baby-sitter. Who else could get Shaq and Kobe to play together, and with a team? Who else would Shaq and Kobe respect?
The Lakers have a longer than usual offseason than usual, with no major injuries to either of its stars. So with luck, the extended rest will re-charge them, and re-kindle their desire to win.
I have to admit that it's strange not to look forward to another Laker game, but if this year was an off year and the Lakers still made it to the second round of the playoff, I'm ready for the next couple seasons...for now, all these means is that I'll have more time to chase after hot chicas!

Every post bitchster makes is sadder (read: pathetic) than the one prior. Poor guy. He apparently employs the "you can't win if you don't play" strategy. Of course his success rate against me is approximately equal to winning the Lotto, but I digress. Ha ha.
I love the 713 word tome ... sorry buddy, but even 10,000 words won't make anyone think you know what you're talking about. Nice, albeit predictable, try.
-Superman-
(Hint: In S's world, 713 words = "a tome").
Don't worry, Superdud. Nobody is expecting you to read 713 words. It's OK. Don't hurt yourself.
Keep claiming victory. There's no truth to the rumor that you are insecure about losing. Oh, and do tell us about your new car, and how important it is to you.
Bitchster, I admit I didn't read all of it. Nobody else did either. I've been telling you since day one ... brevity, brevity, brevity!
Superman-induced improvements you have made since day one ... 1) you don't post in every single topic every single day like you used to. The board thanks me. 2) You are generally more concise, notwithstanding the occasional "slippages" like tonights ... of course, you were trying to compensate for your lack of NBA knowledge, but that's really no excuse. 3) You generally acknowledge when you have been whipped by not responding or posting for 3-4 days. In this case, you again are slipping.
I will continue to help you improve ... shaping your oh-so-malleable mind with my superior knowledge, wit, and humor.
I will tell you about my new car since you asked ... it is very fast, very quick, corners like you can't believe ... and I have not even been able to open it up yet, due to the horrible, evil, 600 mile break in period. The only real negative is I will have to deal with middle aged losers driving 60 in the fast lane when I desire to go 140 ... This is my second new car since last August. Being young and successful is such a pain in the ass!
-Superman-
i think that new jersey has a shot in the series. no they don´t have anyone to match up against duncan, but it is still a fricking team game. jersey is playing well and spurs don´t seem to protect leads very well, so i wouldn´t be suprised if they pull off the upset.
cleveland wins the lottery and will pick james. talk radio was talking all week about the LeBron James lottery. i´m guessing he is the right pick for cleveland, but i`m not sure he is a no brainer for any team that got the first pick. hell he has dominated against 15 and 16 year olds. the kid from syracuse dominated against older kids as a freshman. probably both will be great players, but i believe the martinez kid will make an immediate impact. hell it took Kobe a few years. people are saying the second pick might be a european 7 footer and martinez the third choice.
the shoe deal. as we all know i´m no rocket scientist, but i´m guessing there are a few clauses in the contract to get nike out of this if the kid is a bust or trouble. i understand that he got the deal because he is very ¨urban¨ and that ¨urban¨ kids can´t identify with Kobe. that is probably true. all the same i don´t see this james kid being an all star the first couple of years. hope i´m wrong, since it would be so good for the game.

Sampson, I’ve gotta agree.
We’ve all been talking about how the West is going to clobber the East in the NBA finals. But from what I’ve seen of the New Jersey Nets, the more I believe that they won’t get clobbered. They probably won’t beat the Spurs, but they’ll put up a good fight and maybe win some games.
Some of us (basically me, not to brag or anything, I never brag, I’m a lover not a fighter…) picked the Nets to win the East, but none of us has expected any representative in the east to compete favorably with the best teams in the West. But with the Nets sweeping the Pistons, though, you’ve gotta appreciate this team’s upside. (1) Obviously, Jason Kidd (former UC Berkeley great) is a spectacular point guard, perhaps the best offensive coordinator since Magic Johnson. The stars in the West got most of the attention this year, but Kidd is MVP caliber, obviously. And he’s picked his game up a notch or two as the finals approach. (2) The Nets have a great offensive scheme. I’ve written before (last year) about the Princeton Offense, which I’ve rated almost as high as the triangle. The Sacramento Kings and the Nets have both gotten good mileage out of the Princeton approach in recent years, and it is worth remembering that the Nets are not a bunch of immature whiners. This year’s Nets are running the Princeton Offence at a fairly high level. It is kind’ve interesting that two sophisticated, related offenses (Triangle and Princeton) are usually beating the more traditional, simpler, isolation-style offenses that are common in the NBA these days. The isolation-style offenses (a la the Spurs) are both popular and vulnerable because they emphasize and rely on strong individual talent. (3) The Nets are excellent on defense. And if height becomes an issue, Scott can always use Mutombo’s decaying carcass against Robinson’s carcass. (It WILL become an issue, as the Spurs are bigger and taller) (4) The Nets have an excellent coach, future Lakers coach Byron Scott. (5). They have recent championship experience. Most of the players know what it takes to win a 7 game playoff series.
The Nets will face some huge challenges: They’ll have to overcome a height disadvantage. On the defensive end, this means that coverage will be difficult. The Mavs tried triple-teaming Duncan, and we may see some of that from the Nets… if all else fails. The Nets will probably try double- or even single-teaming Duncan at the beginning. Additionally, because of the height issue, the Nets will need to run a more up-tempo offense than they normally like, at least some of the time.
The long layoff for both teams probably works to the Spurs’ advantage, assuming that the rest was good for Robinson. Robinson is a great player, and the question regarding him is how much does he have left in the tank?
This year, like most years, demonstrates the importance of team dynamics above individual talent. There were a number of teams that supposedly were very rich in individual talent (e.g. the Kings and Blazers), and these teams crashed, as usual. Additionally, consider teams that have only one major star. The Spurs (Duncan) and Nets (Kidd) have thrived, thanks to the solid, unselfish ethics on those teams. The 76ers wilted and crashed, with their highly-regarded coach quitting because the team’s “superstar” is selfish, difficult to coach, and apparently un-committed to team concepts. We’ll see if Iverson is able to mature with a new coach. Don’t bet the farm. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The individuals who understand this will continue to dominate in the NBA, and on the Club Hombre NBA thread (basically me, not to brag or anything, I never brag, I’m a lover not a fighter…).
Anyway, the NBA finals might be exciting. I may watch a game or two.

Dogster,
You are simply amazing. The Erasmus Darwin of the NBA board. You are able to predict with almost 100% accuracy the evolution of the NBA playoffs.
It is incredible how well you prognosticate what is going to happen in the NBA. You must have played basketball at a high, high school level.
No wonder Superman is so jealous and frustrated by your wisdom and insight
Nets/Spurs tied 2-2.
Over the last year and a half or so, I’ve been following the Nets and Spurs a bit. Here are the highlights of what I’ve written up to May 18 of this year on this thread. (see also June 4). I’m not doing this to demonstrate my obviously superior knowledge of the game. That would be bragging. I’m deeply concerned that all of you share in my knowledge of the game because I care.

Dogster’s Predictions:
First Round:
(2) San Antonio beats (7)
(1) New Jersey beats (8) Indiana.
By Dogster on Monday, May 27, 2002 - 11:04 pm:
I go away for a few days and look what happens to this thread. People prognosticate doom for the Lakers and the Nets, and then the good guys come back to win their games. Nice!
By Dogster on Sunday, June 02, 2002 - 01:49 am:
I attended game 6 on Friday at Staples Arena.
I delayed getting to my seats by a few minutes, as I relished in the satisfying conclusion of the Nets-Celtics series. Kudos goes to Byron Scott for creating Lakers East, and for enabling mini-Magic Jason Kidd, and the amazing Nets, to dispose of the Celtics.
By Dogster on Monday, June 03, 2002 - 12:08 am:
Perhaps the Lakers will cede the Nets a game or two in honor of their esteemed alumnus, Byron Scott. But don’t bet on it. There are forces on the current Lakers team who feel no nostalgia toward Lakers alumni (Byron Scott), mini-Magic Johnson (Jason Kidd), and mini-Showtime (the Nets). So don’t blink.
By Dogster on Tuesday, June 18, 2002 - 05:21 pm:
In the NBA, we are seeing a renewed emphasis on sophisticated, team-oriented offenses (e.g., the Triangle and Princeton offenses). Teams that implemented these offenses were the most successful this year (Lakers, Sacramento, Nets). The Lakers (Triangle) and Kings (Princeton) are the most advanced in implementing their respective offenses, and it takes months and even years to learn them.
I believe that the Lakers, Kings and Nets will continue to improve next year, especially if they do not change their rosters drastically. The fact that young star players like Kobe and Bibby and Kidd are buying into these systems looms large. Expect the quality of play to continue to improve.
When betting on teams next year, take a close look at their offensive schemes.
By Dogster on Wednesday, October 30, 2002 - 10:53 pm:
The main challenges [to the Lakers] are likely to come from obvious places (Sacramento: lots of talent, Princeton offense, hunger; New Jersey: talent, Princeton Offense; Mavericks: highly talented trio; San Antonio: Talent, hunger)
By Dogster on Saturday, December 07, 2002 - 01:56 pm:
Did y'all enjoy the Spurs game last night? I generally ignore such trivia, especially when they play the generally weaker teams in the east.
By Dogster on Wednesday, April 02, 2003 - 10:21 am:
New Jersey and Detroit might even bring some gloss to the eastern brackets. I think those are the only Eastern two teams who have anything resembling a decent record against teams from the west, and maybe some NBA exec can spin that in a way that makes the finals interesting.
The best, classiest, championship-worthy team in the West besides the Lakers is the San Antonio. Other than that you have some highly talented whiners (Sac), criminals (Blazers), also-rans (Minnesota) and flukes (Dallas). If the Spurs and the Lakers meet at any point, that's probably the series that will determine the next champion. Sacramento has tons of talent, a dynamite offensive scheme, and Bibby, but as far as I can tell, their choke meter is in the red zone, rivaling the Mavericks and Blazers.
By Dogster on Tuesday, May 06, 2003 - 08:16 am:
Gotta give props to San Antonio for playing slightly less ugly than the Lakers in Game 1… San Antonio is quality stuff, no doubt about it. No more injuries, please. Duncan is a worthy MVP this year.
By Dogster on Wednesday, May 07, 2003 - 11:00 pm:
Gotta give props to San Antonio, up 2-0. Tonight they cranked their game up a notch or two higher, and the Lakers haven't brought their championship game yet this series
By Dogster on Monday, May 12, 2003 - 08:00 pm:
I think the Spurs are currently the classiest act in the NBA.... Whoever wins this series will probably win it all, as I've said before...
By Dogster on Wednesday, May 14, 2003 - 05:10 pm:
That was a great Lakers-Spurs game last night. With the Lakers down 3-2, the postseason is finally getting started. In the postgame interview, Duncan really had a deer-in-the-headlights expression, like he just avoided being flattened into a Bambi-burger. Even so, I expect him to play extremely well in game 7...
By Dogster on Friday, May 16, 2003 - 06:15 pm:
Great run for the Lakers!! Spurs were better this year and they deserve to win the entire thing this year. The Lakers finally have a true rival, now that the Spurs have won 2 NBA championships in 5 years...
By Dogster on Sunday, May 18, 2003 - 01:22 pm:
That "excellent" Mavs team is almost certainly gonna be stomped out of existence shortly (by the Spurs). My condolences in advance.
I'm guessing it'll be New Jersey in the East. I enjoy watching the success of Byron Scott, who will be the Lakers' head coach some day. Keep an eye on Jason Collins, backup center.
By Dogster on Sunday, May 18, 2003 - 08:42 pm:
Scarus, there's still plenty of great basketball left, so I plan to watch some of it. I agree that Duncan is amazing to watch, a true champion, and believe that he continues to be the best player in the NBA, completely deserving of his MVP award. If he stays healthy and on top of his game, he will win San Antonio another championship -- a huge feat in this era of big-market champs. And Robinson deserves a good send-off. I wish that the Spurs had a better offensive scheme, a la the Triangle or Princeton offenses. But the Spurs, more than any other team, "get" the team concept.

This has ben a long road and it appeared a couple of weeks ago that the trip was about over. Now all the news on Freddie Mac comes out.
The good news is this client might make a small profit after almost two years. Also if the client had just purchased this stock as a buy and hold they would be losing approx. $4000 at its current price.
