Ben picks 8900 for next weeks Dow

By Ben on Sunday, June 29, 2003 - 09:42 am:  Edit

Hey,

Donde esta elecciones por semana proxima?(Ben's version of spanish)

By Kendricks on Monday, June 30, 2003 - 12:59 am:  Edit

8951 for next week.

By Ldvee on Monday, June 30, 2003 - 05:06 am:  Edit

I'll SWAG it at 9200. Gotta think positive. The RV towing and storage costs are up to $880, in San Diego at a Chevy dealership finally. The friggen tow truck (flatbed) overheated twice climbing the grade back from Calexico. Took us (me and the driver Miguel de Tijuana) 6 hours to get back. My insurance company says they'll cover but I'm worried they'll say it was overloaded. It's a 1/2 ton pickup with a cab-over camper, and it is overloaded but I've driven it 10k miles with no problems before.

We'll see..........

Spent 3 hours in La Mansion last night with sex during the Big Brother commercials. What a dumb TV show but the chicas all love it.

Ldvee-I'll SWAG it at 9200

Kendricks-8951 for next week.

Ben picks 8900 for next weeks Dow

A belated congratulations goes out to Ben for winning the Dow last week.

By Ben on Monday, June 30, 2003 - 06:48 am:  Edit

Ldvee,

I will be spending this afternoon at Las Mansion with a nice, young new little spinner.

It will be her first time at LM. I hope she enjoys it.

By Ldvee on Monday, June 30, 2003 - 07:13 am:  Edit

I'm sure she'll be impressed. You're training them well.

The past few times the staircase lights have been off - sure is dark going up those stairs. And what about those light switches in the rooms?? You need to be an electrical engineer to figure those out!

By Ben on Monday, June 30, 2003 - 07:36 am:  Edit

Ha,

Since I am so considerate, I always tell them to wait at the bottom of the stairs until I slowly walk up to the top and turn on the lights.

This girl today is a newbie to the business so I don't think I will leave her alone at the bottom of the stairs. She might run away.

The lights switches are no longer confusing to me, but I may buy a simple stopper for the jacuzzi as many of them have defective drains and the stopper will not stay down.

I wish I owned that place.

Dow 9007

By Ldvee on Tuesday, July 01, 2003 - 05:40 am:  Edit

Kendricks,

You like to have fun on the yahoo boards. Check out 58113 and 58079 on SURE.

I think you may want to contribute to this line of thought.

Looks like SURE is going to pop on FDA approval of RTE soon. I'm staying out tho.

By Kendricks on Tuesday, July 01, 2003 - 06:48 am:  Edit

That guy is obviously an insincere troll. As much as I HATE people like that, I responded to him anyway!

By Ben on Tuesday, July 01, 2003 - 11:46 am:  Edit

Damn,

What a turn around in the market today!

By Ben on Wednesday, July 02, 2003 - 07:44 am:  Edit

It appears that the market is going to have another good day.

Maybe this latest rally is substainable, but I sure as hell don't understand how the Dow and S&P stocks can go much higher with their current and forecast future earnings?????

Can anyone explain it to me???

By Kendricks on Wednesday, July 02, 2003 - 09:29 am:  Edit

I chalk irrational price movements up to irrational crowd behavior.

I dumped CRIO at break-even, and bought DIGI instead. I still hold FONR, ENWV, and CSTL, all of which I still think are excellent buys.

By Kendricks on Wednesday, July 02, 2003 - 11:10 am:  Edit

Kickass! DIGI is up almost 10% from my entry point this morning!

By Kendricks on Wednesday, July 02, 2003 - 01:12 pm:  Edit

Pretty sweet. I got into DIGI at 1.93, and it closed at 2.20 today. Almost a 14% gain so far.

By Kendricks on Wednesday, July 02, 2003 - 02:52 pm:  Edit

I am settling in to a strategy of buying dirt cheap stocks that are cash rich and debt free. Seems to be a nice way to catch big risers with very little downside risk.

I'm still doing the covered call writing with the bulk of my account, though, until I am convinced that these other trades are consistently more profitable.

By Ldvee on Wednesday, July 02, 2003 - 06:58 pm:  Edit

"Can anyone explain it to me???"

I guess it just goes to show how much money is sitting on the sidelines waiting for this bear to end.

It makes sense to me that market dynamics have changed since the invention of the browser/Inet/cheap PC, coupled with IRAs and 401Ks, which enables every middle class American to buy and sell with the click of a mouse. The old rules of thumb that were created when only rich Americans were playing in the market with after tax dollars via brokers are now distorted.

The herd mentally is even more powerful now. Irrational exuberance and fear is becoming commonplace.

I need a few years of irrational exuberance while invested in blue chips. High gains, low risk, that's all I ask for.

By Kendricks on Wednesday, July 02, 2003 - 07:50 pm:  Edit

High future gains and low risk? Sounds like you should have your money in FONR.

By Ldvee on Wednesday, July 02, 2003 - 08:03 pm:  Edit

FONR is a real "stand up" company. I'll call the hired hand tomorrow and put $100K into it, see what he says. It fits the buy low criteria.

He likes big companies that make a profit, pay dividends, and are at bargain prices, you know, like EK.

ay carumba

By Kendricks on Thursday, July 03, 2003 - 08:42 am:  Edit

I like small companies that are cheap, have a lot of cash, no debt, and a bright future. Like FONR.

By Ldvee on Thursday, July 03, 2003 - 09:47 am:  Edit

I have a sizeable chunk of my 401K that I manage (all mutual funds) in a trowe price small cap value fund, up 13% ytd

just another aspect of the ldvee portfolio

I think I'm doing things right, only time will tell

should be getting the settlement for the totaled RV this week. Maybe $10K.

Wonder what I should do with the money?

No mas RVs.

I'm likely to piss it away in La Coahuila.

Maybe I'll look for a quick double in the market.

I know Kendricks sez FONR.

SURE is tempting. I think upcoming FDA action will make it pop.

Ben, T-bone, give me a few quick buck picks.

A $10K pussy extravaganza?? Gamble in the market??

Hmmmmmm

T_Bone, I will be in TJ today.

Damn T_Bone is already winning.

Hey Kendricks,

I see where you have made new friends at the ENWV board. I did make a brief comment about "Grateful-Dude".

By Kendricks on Monday, July 07, 2003 - 10:38 am:  Edit

Grateful_Dude is a moron, who is pissed that ENWV canned his sorry ass. How can anyone take anything he says seriously?

I bought some ECTX at 5.07 today, as a bottom fishing play. Lots of cash, no debt, selling for below book value, and scraping along its 52 week low. That's my kind of stock... I'd like it better if it were in the 1 - 2 dollar range, though. If that were the case, a mere 40 cent move would get me a great percentage gain (like DIGI did for me last week).

By Kendricks on Monday, July 07, 2003 - 11:02 am:  Edit

VNWI is a hell of a value play right now. It is debt free, trading below cash, and starting to move up.

Buy it now, thank me later!

By Kendricks on Monday, July 07, 2003 - 11:56 am:  Edit

VNWI up 20% since I mentioned it an hour ago.

Hey Ben, what is that annualized?

By Kendricks on Monday, July 07, 2003 - 02:07 pm:  Edit

I made over 53% on my money today on VNWI! Entry - 1.08, close, 1.66.

By Ben on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 06:52 am:  Edit

86,400% simple interest

By Kendricks on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 06:58 am:  Edit

I closed out my VNWI trade this morning. In at 1.08, out at 1.91. I'd consider going back in on a retrace, but wanted to take out my profit for now. Not bad for a day's work.

By Kendricks on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 07:05 am:  Edit

I took profits on DIGI too, but I only made 24% on that trade (1.93 to 2.4).

By Ldvee on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 07:08 am:  Edit

Kendricks looks like he's rollin' in dough. Hey, how much time do you spend per day looking for "small companies that are cheap, have a lot of cash, no debt, and a bright future"?

By Kendricks on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 07:28 am:  Edit

I spend probably a couple hours a day on average on research. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

It's fun for me, though. I hope to eventually quit my job, and spend my days trading and writing. And whoring, of course. But I'm still not ready to give up the steady income...

By Ben on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 08:21 am:  Edit

I have known a couple of guys that quit their jobs when they were in their early 50's and decided they could make 20%-30% a year on there money. This was 7-8 years ago when we were in the later stages of a twenty year bull market. Everyone was a genius in the mid to late ninties.

Both are now fully employeed.

You definitely need a lot of money to live through the ups and downs of the market.

By Kendricks on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 09:18 am:  Edit

I agree, Ben. By "eventually", I mean down the road a ways, if I am able to put together a very sizable chunk of cash.

Anyway, working towards this as a goal gives me a reason to get out of bed every morning. If there were no hope at all of ever beating the game, I'd probably just drop out of society altogether and go on a killing rampage or something.

By Ben on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 09:40 am:  Edit

I feel you can draw out approximately 5% per year from your investments and still have a little growth and hedge against inflation.

So if you had one million invested, you could take out $50,000 the first year and say $51,000-$51,500 the second year(using 2%-3% inflation) and continue to have your inflation adjusted $50,000 and not touch your original principal.

I have a 93 year old client who is now 100% invested in freddie macs, municipal bonds and cd's. These investments are currently paying him $49,000 per year with about half the income tax free. In addition he receives $1700 per month from a combination of a fixed annuity and social security. He is concerned that he has little inflation protection as his expenses are now about $45,000 per year.

The point I was trying to make is that if you want to retire young you will need to have money in equities such as stocks and real estate. As you get older inflation should be less of a concern and you can move into " safer" income producing investments.

By Kendricks on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 09:59 am:  Edit

I got out of CSTL for a small profit, and am still long ECTX, FONR, and ENWV (and the covered call trades, of course). Overall, things have been going very well lately.

By Ben on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 10:12 am:  Edit

Congratulations on your astute investments.

I wish I had bought the ENWV when you suggested it last week.

By Kendricks on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 02:48 pm:  Edit

Thanks Ben. I do think I am onto something here. I intend to continue to use revenue generated by my covered call trades to buy stocks that are debt free, rich with cash, and selling below tangible value.

As these stocks go up, I will roll the money over into larger positions in similar stocks. I would expect that stocks which meet this criteria will usually not completely collapse and never recover. As we have seen, these stocks do sometimes explode upwards, and are likely to at least drift upwards over time.

What do you think?

By Ldvee on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 06:57 pm:  Edit

"selling below tangible value"

what does that mean?

Does Microsoft fit into your buy "debt free, rich with cash, and selling below tangible value" definition, if not, why?

By Ldvee on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 07:01 pm:  Edit

Ben, what does a jacuzzi room cost in LM?

I'm going for a menage-a-trois this Saturday.

By Ben on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 07:13 pm:  Edit

The cost will be $65 for a jacuzzi room , so split three ways that will be $21.67 for each of you.

I hope you have a nice time, you pervert!

By Ldvee on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 07:18 pm:  Edit

hey I ain't no prevert like youse

they'll both be old hos, 25 or so

By Ldvee on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 07:25 pm:  Edit

do I need to bring a secondary drain stopper? The primary will be busy plugging other holes.

By Ben on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 08:00 pm:  Edit

Funny you mention the rubber stopper as I did suggested that as an option last week.

When I took Sweetie Pie there last week they actually had an old fasion rubber stooper in the jacuzzi.

I could also use my fat ass as a stopper, but I don't like the big red spot it leaves on my hip. Also it is hard to get loose from the vacum created when I plop down on the drain. Not a pretty sight!!!
