Actually, it's THE University of Florida because they're aren't any others there! Well, there's that girl's school up North...

Ben...to alums it may be THE University of Florida...elsewhere in the SEC it is known as FU..cause FU has such a nice ring to it.....they think of themselves as the Gators, too, but elsewhere they are known as the GAYturds....I am from elsewhere in SECland...

Ezy,
Thanks for clarifying that FU issue.
I am sure Bonvvnt also appreciates your clarification regarding the Gators.

Nothing exciting in college football this weekend.
I have been very busy in the office the last couple of days. 12-14 hours a day.
I think I wll go to Caliente on Sunday morning and make a few parlay bets. Have a nice breakfast, a couple of bloody marys and just watch the games all day.
No women, nothing but just relax in quiet solitude.
OK, maybe just one women later in the day

Touchdown BOMB Notre Dame. Who says they got no O? Somehow I get the feeling the game might not be over yet, though!
By Youngbrig on Sunday, October 27, 2002 - 07:32 am: Edit |
After gaining a mere 185 yards of offense at home against Pitt in a lackluster 14-6 win, I definitely had my doubts...
Frankly, I still have them...
They dominated Air Force at Colorado Springs, but they were obviously bigger, stronger, and faster than the Falcons...
Yesterday's win was fueled by 4 FSU turnovers and another awful performance by Chris Rix...Still, ND was outgained 420 to 300...
So, its like, you tell me?...When does Reality strike for the Fighting Irish?...At USC on Nov. 30?...
YoungBrig
By Porker on Sunday, October 27, 2002 - 08:02 am: Edit |
USC isn't very good, but they can indeed lay the wood on offense on a good day, something ND might have trouble matching, and records tend not to mean a whole lot in that game. You'd still have to figure they'll find a way to win, though, and then take their chances with the polls. Will three teams end up undefeated? And NO, NC St. doesn't count!
BTW, re: USC: I saw a bunch of those guys run track when they were in high school and can't beLIEVE a team with athletes like that can underachieve so badly. When the hell are they gonna get a REAL coach? How many decades has it been now?
By Youngbrig on Sunday, October 27, 2002 - 08:34 am: Edit |
Porker:
That's the thing...USC always has the talent...Always...Miami/Florida/Florida State-type talent, I would argue...Its just a matter of whether or not they are going to mentally come to play from season to season-- and except for a run when they had Rodney Peete at QB, they really have not come to play since Charles White left the program...
Now Charles White-- he was a great tailback...Virtually unstoppable with that big OL in front of him...
This current SC squad looks pretty decent to me...I am not completely sold on the Carroll/Chow thing either, but they really took it to Oregon in Eugene yesterday, and that was a week removed from a pasting of Washington...They haven't done that in a while...
They are racking-up major yards on everyone, and they have a relatively tough defense as well...

Damn Notre Dame wins again!!
Just when things are looking good with Tenn.,FSU and Florida having off years, fuckin Notre Dame gets a good coach (by devine intervention) and starts to play like they have never played on defense. Some jerk on TV said their defense was as good as Oklahoma's defense.
I have sooooooo enjoyed watching Notre Dame wallow in obscurity this last few years.
I HATE NORTRE DAME.

McCullouch, Kelly, Rideaux and now Huggy Boy Jr. Fargas all were CA state HS sprint champions. As Ja'warren Hooker showed, that doesn't mean you can play football, but jeez, those SEC schools sure do harness that speed a lot better than USC ever has.
I loved Charles White. Russell going to Berkeley was a crime against nature! I forget the dreck SC had at tailback those days, but it's been even worse since.

While there does seem to be an air of inevitability building-up around Notre Dame's season, OU straight-up is obviously the better team...In fact, I think that OU could go in to South Bend and defeat the Fighting Irish...
However, this appears to be one of those things that is "bigger" than head-to-head match-ups and on-field performance...

NC State+10 over GA Tech

Notre Dame +10 over BC

I like your other picks, but ND+10 over BC. Man I am shocked. BC gave Virginia Tech all they could handle last week.

i'm guessing you are picking the team on the left to win by the more than the points listed after the plus sign. looks like you have all the lines backwards ie.. notre dame varied from -8 1/2 to -10.

Hey you SEC guys, re: Ron Zook...Referring to my College Football post of Oct. 15th, I said "Zook will get at least one more year" and "Florida will get it turned around"...indeed...
You'all see that game tonight?...
The Gators exhibited much more poise than UGA this evening; most strikingly at QB where Grossman put on a Favre-esque performance while the two-headed Monster ShockleyGreene could not convert a single(!) third down...
Dropped passes, pisspoor clock management-- the Bulldogs evidently were not quite ready for primetime...

The UF offensive line was weak but still managed to get it done. Barely. Grossman is talented but loosing his favorite receiver hurt.
I wonder what the score would have been if he was there....?

This is fun: This time I will refer back to my College Football post dated Oct. 27th: "When does Reality strike for the Fighting Irish?"...
Thematically, my point was that I was still unconvinced by Notre Dame's undefeated run to start the season...
While everyone else was bandwagoning the Irish after their "convincing" win over Fla St., I was trying to tell anyone who would listen that the Seminoles, playing behind one of the worst 10 starting QBs in the country in Chris Rix (now benched), still managed to outgain the Irish by 120(!) yards...
Sooner or later stuff like that catches up to you-- in the case of the Irish it was sooner, rather than later...
Green Jerseys notwithstanding, of course...
BC pulls a major upset this afternoon...

Boomer Sooner
The Stoop brothers coached a great defense into another victory for my Oklahoma.
Also the hated Notre Dame lost to Boston College as I sort of suggested.
Oklahoma may take over number one in the polls after Miami's poor showing against Rutgers today.
I may have to go down to Tijuana tomorrow to celebrate.

You would have thought so...everything up to this week was breaking the way of the Golden Domers...
Just as the mere shadow of Peter was enough to heal the devout, the divine gaze of Touchdown Jesus appeared to be ensuring a blessed and sacred season on the gridiron for the Irish...
And then Willingham cuts loose with the Green Jerseys-- pulling the trigger WAY too early with that chestnut...
Rhteorically speaking, would Lou Holtz have asked his disciples to wear the Green against Boston College, I wonder?...Ara Parseghian?...Dan Devine?...
Conversely, I think Gerry Faust would have...

I am pretty sure that OU closes its regular season in Stillwater...hmmm...
Item: Colorado outgains OU today, 380-300...
Item: Colorado racks-up 19 first-downs to the Sooners 12...
Item: Hybl, 10-23 for 105 yards passing...
Hmmm...

Anybody catch the new BCS? No?
1 Oklahoma
2 Ohio State!!
3 Miami
I take back all the bad things I said about the system(at least for one week).
By Ben on Sunday, November 03, 2002 - 07:30 am: Edit |
Young Brig,
Of course you are right about Oklahoma's offense.
A typical Hybl game against an average defense. Less than 50% completions with 2 touchdowns and two interceptions.
The stats are a little misleading in that Oklahoma defense controled the game. Colorado running back(Brown) had a 103 yards rushing which is 60 yards under his average. First time in four years Oklahoma has given up a 100 yards rushing too a running back.
Colorado had 5 turnovers which is usually the way Oklahoma wins.
I still think Miami has the best team, but seems to have motivation problems. Perhaps the Rutgers game will light a fire under their ass. What an upset that game would have been.
I agree Notre Dame is/was over rated. They are similar to Oklahoma in that they have a very good defense and average offense.
I also caught the reference to Oklahoma State. Oklahoma has four games left and only one game at home. They play Oklahoma State away.

OK, who's the Heisman winner this year? I am quite biased as I have been a big Ken Dorsey fan since his high school days in the Bay Area. I also remember well Chris Brown's dominant game at the end of last year for Colorado. And have built-in gigs for all Miami RB's based on their shitty showings in the pros. Hmmm... using that logic, Miami QB's should be thrown out too? OK, who do Y'ALL like? And, I guess more importantly, WHY?
BTW, I saw some show on OJ on HBO this morning and am wondering how some douchebag sportswriters gave HIS '67 Heisman to Gary PINCHE Beban. Talk about a shitty decision...

YB,
Por Favor, that little baby face gutted the program in Colorado and I bet he does the same thing at Washington. A 7-5 record hardley puts him in the elite coaching catagory. Hell, he almost lost to Arizona and he easily could have lost the Washington State game.
I hope his next job is to become head coach at Texas.

Ben:
What has to be frustrating for Sooners fans such as yourself is that OU would clock Ohio St. if they were to play-- even in Columbus...On a neutral field I say that OU probably goes off as an 8 or 9 pt. favorite...Maybe 10...
Michigan really should have won on Saturday...
Anyway, it would have been easy for the Huskies to roll over but they regained their footing...With Pickett and Reggie Williams back next year, I am betting that Neuheisal finds a way to develop a running game to compliment a devastating passing attack...At season's close this year I would hazard to say that USC and the UW are the two top teams in the conference...
YoungBrig
By Ben on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 - 07:27 am: Edit |
You are right that Neuheisal or someone has held that team together after a very demoralizing early season. They beat some very good teams in the last month.
I have been trying to figure out why you defend babyface so much and it just occured to me that anybody as clean cut as Neuheisal must be Mormon or certainly a good canidate for conversion to The Church of LDS.
Fess up Young Brig???
Regarding Oklahoma. They have had another great season and still need to beat OSU (Oklahoma State University) to have a really great bowl game. I guess they will wind up in the Orange Bowl if they beat Oklahoma State.
I noticed you mentioned Ohio State, not Miami as the team that Oklahoma could beat. I think it is Miami and then all the rest.
