What does the standup MRI machine sell for?
The article says this is the third machine this doc has purchased. It would be more impressive if another doc had bought his first.
By Kendricks on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 08:24 am: Edit |
It sells for 1.5 million, with a 100k yearly service contract after installation. Also, I think that repeat sales from the same customers are a good sign. What makes for a bigger market - a product where all of your purchasers only buy one of your product, or where your purchasers buy multiple units?
By Ben on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 08:27 am: Edit |
They sell for 1.5 million and Fonar is paid approx. 50% up front and gets the balance during different stages of installation(THAT IS MY UNDERSTANDING AND MAY NOT BE ACCURATE).
In addition Fonar receives $100,000 per year for the maintenace of the machines.
I own a bunch of this stuff and right now I am down about $2,000.
It is a high risk investment, but has some potential.

Max,
"I wish I could give you advice about shorting but I just realized that this is the only way I'll ever get my money back so I just started doing this."
Hmmmm, interesting statement.
I had a huge paper gain then loss during the recent bubble. Although it would be nice to get back to my max, I'm not counting on it.
So let me see, you were long when the market was at its peak and now you like going short when it's coming off its bottom.
OK, but wow, risky. From my SURE thing experience, I'd say short the story stocks. Maybe IPOs would be good targets.
By Abuelo on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 08:36 am: Edit |
I'm long FONR too... Does anyone know if they have sold any to university hospitals or well known clinics such as Mayo? I haven't followed it for long.
By Ben on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 08:54 am: Edit |
On their message board there was a report that Yale Med School had purchased one.
By Abuelo on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 09:29 am: Edit |
THAT'S impressive! Thanks, I'll look at it again
By Kendricks on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 11:57 am: Edit |
MSSN and FCGI are both kicking ass for me today. Look for strong, healthy upmoves in both of these stocks.
By Maximus743 on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 12:15 pm: Edit |
Ldvee,
No,I am not short.
I am still a bull and long the market.
DELL,CSCO,NXTL,SUNW,QQQ to name a few.
Nice run up in the last two months.
I am just trying to find quick ways to make quick cash and shorting momentum/news stocks
(the story stocks as you called them)
is a good way.
BTW did you hear the story that legendary investor George Soros claims another huge crash is on the Horizon?
By Kendricks on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 01:31 pm: Edit |
What a great day today! All of my stocks are up today except for CRNT (which is up 18% from my entry point), and I was up about 5% overall today.
By Ldvee on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 06:36 pm: Edit |
I didn't hear the Soros story.
What does he think is going to happen and why?
The apocalypse - I guess it's due.

"I didn't hear the Soros story.
What does he think is going to happen and why? "
He says most stocks are overvalued, excessive PE ratios and the recent run up is unwarranted.
THis is what my friend told me and I personally would like to see the actual article.
I was hoping you had heard about it.
Long time Bull,

Here's some info on historical P/Es. The "surprise conclusion" below (not mine, I copied it from one of the links below) is interesting.
So are the current relatively high P/Es due to high prices or low earnings? Of course I'm hoping for the latter.
http://www.lowrisk.com/sp500pe.htm
http://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/123.asp
http://www.cashflowvaluation.com/images/PEchart.pdf
Surprise conclusion: During severe bear markets, a high P/E ratio can occur at the bottom of the market. As the stocks rise from the bear market trough during an economic recovery, the P/E ratio decreases down to an acceptable level. This occurs because company earnings recover faster than the rising stock prices.

Excellent, Ldvee. I love contrarian argument and thought.
Since Soros has also been attacking Bush lately, I suspect that any comments he make may be an effort to sabotage the economy, in order to take Bush's administration down in the next election.
By Ldvee on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 - 08:25 am: Edit |
So Soros has a political agenda? Figures, what rich people don't?
Hey, the SURE yahoos are saying $1.80 is a critical support level. It's there now.
By Kendricks on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 - 09:09 am: Edit |
I did some more gratuitous SURE bashing for you, Ldvee. I hope you enjoy it. It doesn't look like anyone is even going to argue with me, though.
By Ben on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 - 11:30 am: Edit |
Kendricks,
I think you have broken the spirit of the SURE board

You beat me to the punch, Ldvee! I was just about to report this news.
Is lacoahuila going to join in on the festivities on the SURE board?
By Ldvee on Thursday, August 21, 2003 - 07:33 am: Edit |
No I'm not going to jump in. Glad I bailed at $2.70. I wonder if there was any intentional fraud that the auditors are finding. I suppose they would have to report that to the SEC. The SURE deal maker during the period in question (long gone) is a slimey character.

FONR, MWY, and HQNT are all doing well! This has been a great week for me so far.
By Kendricks on Friday, August 22, 2003 - 07:20 am: Edit |
Got rid of FCGI (small loss) and NVDM (break even) today. Also have a limit order in to sell CRNT for a nice profit.
I'm not sure what to do with all this cash, though. Any ideas floating around out there?

How about going to a casino??
I doubled my money, 100 to 200, last Sunday at Viejas in San Diego.

I actually love gambling, and play poker fairly regularly. Pretty minor stakes, though, but it is fun.
I'm going to spend some time this weekend looking for some new stocks to invest in.
By Kendricks on Friday, August 22, 2003 - 10:42 am: Edit |
I threw some cash back into VNWI at 1.27. I made money on this stock before, why not do it again.

Hey Kendricks,
What happened to SURE today? I just got home from work to find the yahoo message board gone. The symbol is now SUREE. Do you know what that means? Is the NAZ going to delist them?
Man, what a mess!
By Ldvee on Saturday, August 23, 2003 - 01:22 pm: Edit |
Found out what it means. The NASDAQ appends the E when a company is not compliant with SEC reporting rules.
Monday morning should see a massive sell off. I don't know but it would make sense that institutional money managers have rules like they must sell when a company is not complying with SEC reporting requirements.
By Kendricks on Sunday, August 24, 2003 - 10:55 pm: Edit |
Wow, the end of an era! I (or one of my aliases, anyway) posted a question last week on the SURE board asking when the symbol would change to SUREE, which was replied to with a chorus of "its not going to happen because they filed for an extension!"
It is sad that the message board is gone, though. That really was good for a hell of a lot of entertainment. I owe you one for turning me on to it!
I would expect that its price will react negatively to this development. It will be interesting to watch from the sidelines.
By Ldvee on Monday, August 25, 2003 - 05:04 am: Edit |

t bone is the winner!
9450 for me next week
By Kendricks on Monday, August 25, 2003 - 06:44 am: Edit |
Ah, that is nice to see the SURE board still there. It wasn't there last night when I looked.
I'll take 9357 for next week. T-Bone ALMOST nailed it again! Isn't that the second time he only missed by a single point?
By Kendricks on Monday, August 25, 2003 - 06:57 am: Edit |
I bought some INET this morning, it seems like a decent risk.
By Ben on Monday, August 25, 2003 - 07:08 am: Edit |
T_Bone won last week and was almost on the money.
Ben picks 9200 this week.
By Ldvee on Monday, August 25, 2003 - 08:08 am: Edit |
I am getting real tempted by SUREE. Talk about buying low!! Problem is BK is a real possibility. I really want to see the 2nd qtr results.
What a fast buck gamble!!
This is a very unusual situation, different but similar to what happened last year at this time when it ran from a 1.50 to about 6 in a couple of months
What do you guys think??
By Ben on Monday, August 25, 2003 - 08:48 am: Edit |
I think you should buy FNOR.
By Kendricks on Monday, August 25, 2003 - 09:08 am: Edit |
I think he should buy FONR. I'd rather just throw a few grand down on a craps table than buy SUREE.
By Kendricks on Monday, August 25, 2003 - 09:25 am: Edit |
I just added some more FONR at 1.82.
By T_bone on Monday, August 25, 2003 - 09:32 am: Edit |
Dow 9278
By Kendricks on Monday, August 25, 2003 - 01:53 pm: Edit |
MSSN is kicking some SERIOUS ass today! Did anyone pay attention to my buy signal, when I was adding shares at $1.40? That will be great if this one keeps on skyrocketing.
By Kendricks on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 - 07:21 am: Edit |
I hope natural gas and crude oil prices keep going up, MSSN needs some more momentum.
By Ben on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 - 07:49 am: Edit |
I would think as our economy continues to rebound that the demand and price of NG and oil will remain high.
I was out of town last week and gasoline was over $2.00 a gallon in San Diego when I filled up yesterday. A combination of high oil prices and a broken pipeline in AZ along with some shut down for repair refineries. Funny how much trouble these oil refineries have right before Labor Day weekend. That’s what I call good management.
Since all or almost all new power plants are being built to use NG as opposed to coal (very cheap) or nuclear, owning oil companies with big reserves is a no brainer.
A great NG exploration company from Colorado is EVG. I also own some Exxon which has been disappointing, but a very steady stock with a decent dividend.

By Ldvee on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 - 08:10 am: Edit |
speaking of oil/energy companies, I have XOM, CVX, DUK, and SRE.
Also bought more GE, Loews, Schering Plough.
Being diversified and looking for 10% a year or so SURE is boring.
Think I'll put $20K into SURE - just kidding. What can happen next? Delisting? Criminal charges?
By Ben on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 - 08:29 am: Edit |
All good oil and utility companies to hold long term, even I think DUK.
I wonder if Duke will cut their dividend?
I also like GE, even though they have some pension issues or at least they did a few months ago.
If it was me I would sell my LOW and buy HD as I think HD will grow faster this year and is cheaper (currently) than LOW.
Of course I am not giving you investment advice and I am probably wrong and you could lose all your money in HD and in the stock market because the stock market is very risky. YADA YADA YADA.
By Ldvee on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 - 08:45 am: Edit |
Actually a portion of my DUK holdings has been recently sold.
The hired hand likes Loews, he probably shops there.
It appears that the financial sector percentage has increased.
Verizon is also a new holding. The guy's working at but I have to admit the results have not been stellar. BTW, no commissions, 0.375% per qtr.
I'll re-assess things at the end of the year.
By Ben on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 - 09:40 am: Edit |
I think you were wise to sell the Duke.
Loews is the better company according to people who have shopped at both stores, but I think the fundementals currently are better with Home Depot.
By Abuelo on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 - 02:52 pm: Edit |
Re the DUK dividend, Value Line says: "We think the dividend will hold, but we're not certain... We advise investors to avoid this untimely stock." I have a small amount :-(
By Ben on Tuesday, August 26, 2003 - 05:21 pm: Edit |
Thanks for your comment Abuelo.
I guess great minds think a like.
Even if they don't cut the dividend it will not be good for the stock if they pay out a dividend larger than their earnings.
By Ldvee on Wednesday, August 27, 2003 - 08:07 pm: Edit |
Not that you guys care but I'm fascinated with the SURE saga.
Class action lawsuit was filed today saying that the percentage of completion revenues booked were fraudulent and used to jack up the price prior to insider sales.

I think retailers are a good place for money right now as usually they are some of the first companies to show good earnings growth when the economy is rebounding.
