20-10 is an amazing record. I did warn you about Cards on the road. Did not want to mention how seahawks are not as good as their record.
By Snapper on Monday, November 10, 2003 - 07:51 am: Edit |
Yeah, but that's just a prop bet. I wish you would have warned me about the Seahawks on the road. Actually, I'm lucky I won any bets this week, given how strange yesterday was with the worst teams in the NFL beating much stronger teams.
The 1-7 Falcons crush the 4-4 Giants.
The 3-5 Redskins beat the 6-2 Seachickens.
The 1-7 Jaguars beat the 7-1 Colts.
The 1-7 Chargers beat the 6-2 Vikings.
Combined that's teams with a 6-26 record beating teams with a 23-9 record.
If I were to go back a week I'd probably still pass on these teams and bet on the Cards-lol

This weeks picks:
Vikings -4½
I'll likely bet against Oakland for the rest of the season as long as the spreads don't get too out of hand.
Panthers -6
I bet against the Redskins last week and it cost me. This week I'm betting the Panthers will cover. They're looking good.
Packers +4
The Vikings three game slide has given the Packers extra motivation to win. Plus Brett Farve is a tuff-guy. This week holding onto the ball with a broken thumb will be a lot easier. No rain in the forcast this weekend for Florida.
Upset of the week:
Texans(moneyline +265) will beat the Bills in Buffalo
The Bills got crushed by the lame-ass Jets 30-3 back in week 6. Houston has served two upsets already this year against the Dolphins and Panthers.
Warning:
Jets(+6)at Colts
Yeah it's the lame-ass Jets, but the Colts are without Marvin Harrison and got beat by the feeble Jaguars last week without him. On the other hand maybe the Jets will do everything possible to lose again this week.

The Colts have been pointing to this game for a while. Remember, the Jets blasted them out of the playoffs last year. Not having Harrison will hurt, but it wouldn't surprise me if Manning & Co. extract payback in a big way on Sunday.
The Vikings suck! and I hope the worthless Raiders pound them. Am I asking for too much?
Probably.
Why am I angry?
Because I had $350 plus dollars of super teaser parlays all coming down to the Vikings at PLUS 8
that is, I was GETTING 8 pts vs the hapless Chargers. Surely I could not lose. Surely I was going to collect on my $350 of bets and go even on the season.
Nope. Instead they lose, I lose $350 more and now have gambled away the cost of four tj trips or one months rent. Damn them!!!!!!
Didn't Porker say bet the SUV?
Just like the 49ers vs the last place Cardinals three weeks ago and Carolina vs the lowly Texans the week before last
the fucking suppossed powerhouse Vikings continue the the streak and fucking lose straight up to the usually anemic Chargers.
To add insult to injury the Vikings throw an INT in the Chargers end zone at the end of the game and costing me my last chance at victory.
On top of that I had to chose four super teasers games and out of ten that I chose to pick from I was correct on 9 of them only missing the one that counted. The fucking Vikings.
9 of 10 and I lose on the Vikings by more than 8pts to the Chargers what the fuck?

Bucs deactivate WR Keyshawn Johnson
TAMPA, Florida - Keyshawn Johnson won't have to worry about getting the damn ball anymore this season.
The Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers' disappointing season took another strange turn Tuesday when the team deactivated the outspoken wide receiver for the final six games of the season.
"I have been deactivated," Johnson told WFAN Radio in New York. "It's puzzling. Believe me, It's puzzling. I had a good run and I'm not bitter at all. I'm just shocked."
Johnson was the Bucs' leading receiver the last three seasons and helped the franchise win their first Super Bowl in January. But Johnson has been unhappy with his role in the offense and had hinted that he would be willing to play elsewhere next season.
"Keyshawn has made it very clear to us that he has no intention of wanting to remain as a Buccaneer beyond the 2003 season, and this approach and his actions are having a negative affect on our football team," said Buccaneers general manager Rich McKay. "Like every team in the NFL, we are focused on winning football games. From a players' perspective, from a coaches' perspective, from an organizational perspective, this situation has become a distraction. This was an organizational decision in the best interest of winning.
"In talking with Jerome Stanley (Keyshawn Johnson's agent) and Keyshawn, we agreed that it will not be necessary for him to be present at our facility for the remainder of the year."
By getting deactivated, Johnson still will be paid the rest of the season. But it is a virtual certainty that he will be traded or released in the offseason.
Johnson, who has been openly complaining about not getting enough passes thrown his way, also has a strained relationship with coach Jon Gruden.
"They had their run-ins, as any player has when you have disagreements," Bucs wide receiver Keenan McCardell told Sporting News Radio. "It is a family thing and we kind of deal with it in-house. I guess somebody just got to the point where it was too much."
But expressing dissatisfaction with his lack of touches is nothing new for Johnson. He authored a book entitled, "Just Give Me the Damn Ball" from his days with the New York Jets.
Johnson is second on the Bucs this season with 45 catches for 600 yards and three touchdowns. He has eight catches the last two games.
Gruden had said following Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers that he would not be hesitant to make changes to his struggling team. Tampa Bay (4-6) has lost three straight games and is in third place in the NFC South, four games behind division-leading Carolina. The Bucs also have lost twice to the Panthers.
Selected first overall in 1996, Johnson was dealt to Bucs in the 2000 offseason for a pair of first-round picks after he failed to restructure his contract with the Jets.
Johnson has always expressed a fondness for Bill Parcells, his former coach with the Jets, who made the decision to deal the receiver to the Bucs. Parcells is now in his first year as Dallas Cowboys coach.
In three-plus seasons with the Bucs, Johnson has 398 catches for 3,828 yards but just 17 touchdowns. For his career, the three-time Pro Bowler has 603 receptions for 7,936 yards and 48 touchdowns.

I'm not going to waste any time making my bets this week, the lines are moving fast(and not in my favor). I feel confident about my picks, but I know if there is a thrid straight week with a lot of upsets I could get a goose-egg.
This week's picks:
Chiefs -11
Mirer looked like a champ last week. This week he's gonna look chump. Chiefs turnover differential is +18, Oakland's is +3(but would be -1 if Culpepper wouldn't have thrown the ball right to 'um three or four time last week.) Oh yeah, the Chiefs offense isn't too shabby either.
Rams -7½
(RB)Marcel Shipp is out and the Card's 3rd RB weighs 274 pounds witch is good when you're 4th & 1, too bad the Cards are going to be 3rd and long all day long. Card's only chance to move the ball is with (WR)Anquan Boldin(who???). Oh yeah, Card's turnover differential is -17 while the Rams' is +4.
Titans -6½
McNair againt the Falcon's secondary. Almost seems too easy. Flacon's give up an average of 270 yards per game to passing. They have also allowed 14 passing TDs this year.
Seahawks/Ravens UNDER 36½
Ravens QB will be Anthony Wright who threw for 112 yards last week and 2 interceptions. Raven's only real hope of scoring on offense is with Jamal Lewis, but coach Billick is so stubborn he would rather have a shit QB try to pass the ball than give Lewis more than 26 carries(can't move away from the game plan, even if it means losing). Ravens won't score an offensive TD this game. Also, the Seahawks have really looked like shit on the road this year.
Upset of the week:
Lions(moneyline +495) will beat the Vikings in Minnesota.
(It's worth a shot at +495. C'mon, the Vikings lost to the team from the Shady Oaks retirement home last week.
By Erip on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 - 10:50 am: Edit |
There is speculation that Keyshawn will end up back with Bill Parcells in Dallas next year, but I will bet that the motherfucker will end up on the motherfucking Raiders.
By Snapper on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 - 02:03 pm: Edit |
I see him going to the Patriots or Redskins.
By Superman on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 - 05:23 pm: Edit |
I bet he goes to the Raiders too. I'd like to see him in Dallas. Parcells is the one guy who can control him, and he's better than Galloway any day of the year.
-Superman-
I already hate Dallas and would be upset to see my former WR (I'm a Jets Fan) go to the Cowgirls.
I would love to see Keyshawn on my turning it around Raiders or my surging 49ers.
By Snapper on Thursday, November 20, 2003 - 02:58 pm: Edit |
He's only 31. Raiders won't be interested in him for at least 5 years.

...and here's my bad pick from last January.
"Dallas will not have a winning record next year."
I am now a believer in the mighty Parcells.

Buccaneers -3½
Jets +1
Instead of directing snide comments at Snapper's moneymaking picks, let me pose an NFL trivia question at the gang. First, an interesting historical note: how many here knew that in the old days (pre-AFL-NFL merger) NFL teams used to play Canadian teams in exhibitions in Canada?
OK, apart from those trips to Canada to pound the Canadian teams, when and where was the first NFL (exhibition) game played between 2 NFL teams - OUTSIDE the USA?

Question:
Why does Exploder hate football so much?
Answer:
Damn Snapper
I did not check the over /unders but it looks like you had your worse week ever with only my JETS coming through with a great win for you.
All the other team bets were losers.
I was in VEGAS this weekend myself and it was ugly with three big bets losing in the final minute.
Florida losing on the bullshit last second bomb.
Chiefs not covering due to Flutie and a 4 second last play 22 yd bs TD pass.
and Jacksonville kicking a 12 second left 1st half field goal to ruin a Tampa Bay first half bet.
Interesting story on the Florida bet. My friend said it was the parlay of the year with Pitt who also lost but
with 2 minutes left and Florida looking like they would win I went into my pocket to grab my $210 winning ticket. My heart suck to the ground as I realized it was not there and that I lost it.
I was sick to my stomach and went to the counter at Imperial Palace and told the guy..
Hey you remember that Florida bet I talked to you about well I lost my ticket is there anything we can do about it...
He explained the ways they could possiblely track it and just then a better at the counter a few feet away asked me what I lost. I told him and he says
here I found it and hands me my $210 winning ticket. What is the odds of someone finding my ticket and being at the counter at the same exact time and then giving me back what at the time was a winning ticket? Just Incredible!
Only problem was that as he handed me the ticket and I turned round I saw Florida State throw the bullshit winning TD and render my wonderful recovery of my ticket worthless.
Damn talk about a emotional roller coaster.

Max:
What a gut-wrenching story! I feel for ya.
I've had my share of exasperating losses this year too, so much so that I'm hoping to stick to my resolution of not betting football (or any sports) anymore. When you add the potential for frustration to the big cut (vig) that the house gets (and that you can no longer enjoy the game for the pure sport of it once you've placed a wager), why would anyone continue to bet unless they're a glutton for punishment?
A Former 10-point teaser card kind of guy,
Ootie
By Erip on Wednesday, December 03, 2003 - 12:19 pm: Edit |
I retired from betting years ago...a time when you knew who would win 90% of the games - the only question was would they cover the spread, and that was a helluva challenge. In today's MFL (Mediocre Football League), it would be difficult to take a profit even if you were only betting on who will win outright...though I suppose if you bet large against the Giants and Vikings every week on the money line you will come out way ahead.
A Thought the Bucs would stomp all over the league again this year and who thinks the J-E-T-S will be the best team in the league by Week 17 and not even be in the playoffs kind of guy,

Looks like you almost joined my club of losing all year to date profits this past weekend.
Good luck this week. Can't be much worse than last week.
BTW I hope you are wrong about the Cardinals.
Last time they played I lost $720 of parlay wins on SF not covering. Nearly lost my Teaser bet as well.
I am sure I will have SF in the mix on one of my bets in TJ this weekend.
Erip,
The Jets have lost several close games including the Philly game. They should be in the playoff hunt right now. It kills me.
Ootie,

Hey Max, I'm still up $35.
You're probably right about the 49ers. There has been a couple team that I have consistantly guessed wrong on no matter if I'm betting on them or against them. I guessed wrong on the Bengals three weeks straight. This week I'm not touch'n that game except for the OVER/UNDER.
By Erip on Thursday, December 04, 2003 - 11:47 am: Edit |
Max, the Jets look like they've regained their form of last season, but I don't understand how their defense could have been so pourous in some of these recent close games. They have given up too many points and too many rushing yards. I couldn't believe the Raiders with Rick Mirer starting his first game for them at QB (the Jets knew the game plan was RUN) marched the length of the field a couple of times without throwing a single pass. How does that happen? Jets were lucky to win that game. I've been hardcore Jets fan since the days of Broadway Glory, but the failures of this year's team were about more than the early season loss of Pennington. Hope the Titans game is an indication of what's to come.
Snapper, ohhhhhhhhhhhh .......... Snapper? Where are you?

That system is as good as any. Like I've said many times now, "it's all just guessing."
I think it was last year on the Howard Stern show they had a football pool. One of the contestants was a monkey that would just spin a wheel to make his picks. The monkey was in the lead for several weeks.
I actually have a sure fire way to win on NFL bets: just bet the opposite of my bets.
By Ootie on Wednesday, December 17, 2003 - 04:09 am: Edit |
There are actually some angles that seem to work a lot. But I use the word "seem" because bettors have a tendency to notice angles when they're working and forget about them when they're not working.
So with that being said, when the weather is horrible, the "under" seems to be a great play. When I was in Vegas during the GB/Phil Monday Night game, I bet the "under" because the forecast showed the whole game would be played in the rain. I won $100. Similarly, last weekend the slippery weather here on the East Coast at the Meadowlands for the Jet/Pitt game made the act of just standing up a challenge. I wish I could have placed a huge bet on the "under". Final score: 6-0. I believe there was a similar weather situation in the New England/Miami game with a low score resulting.
Another "seemingly" successful angle is when a team stops playing for the coach (as in "gives up"). Five weeks ago, there was an ESPN report that information from the Giant's locker room indicated that the players had turned off to their coach (Fossil). Since then, I believe the Giants have failed to cover five straight weeks.
But without a scientific study, these angles may just be one of those things that are noticed only when they're successful, thus encouraging more bets and ensuring that the bookies continue to rake in the dough.
A Heaven is full of beautiful little angles kind of guy,
Ootie

"Shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday, Redskins head coach Steve Spurrier called team owner Daniel M. Snyder to resign “in the best interests of the Redskins franchise.”"
Only, he didn't.
Most Redskins fans are very happy that Spurrier resigned. His system just did not work and he had no discipline whatsoever. Our hope is that Snyder does not hire the first big name that he can land (like Fassel) and hires a really good coach.
Snyder runs his team like the fan that he is, unfortunately.

Who's interested in a CH football handicapping contest this year? We could pick against the spread and over/under each week. So that would be 8 picks this week, 8 next week, then 4, then 2 (perfect score = 22, unless you wanted to weight your picks and get more points if your better picks win).
I don't have time to coordinate the results and post the standings but I'm sure one of my fellow hombres does. Maybe we could get Hombre to kick in a $5 grand prize - LOL. I predict Explorer would win because I heard he has a new foolproof system. If that fails, I'll go with Snapper.
