Milky,
There's no need to rush to the betting window. You'll have the winners when I see you this sunday for the game.
Maximus wasn't with us this past weekend because he has a life outside of the Zona. He was busy being tuff in Vegas.
Btw... you might not need the extra point this weekend since I think you'll be on the right side. Unlike last weekend when I didn't like your NE pick giving the -6.5 to the Titans. Therefore, I had you played the teasers instead and got NE down to -.5
I'll take my commission later \emoticon

Silver,
One question for ya-- where did I mention the word "spread" when I posted my picks?
I went 3-4 and the colts could of lost that game if the chiefs had any resemblence of their defence while home. The Colts are going down.
Manning is hot, but the sandlot defences are a thing of the past.
By Silver on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 - 02:45 pm: Edit |
Don Marco,
I assumed incorrectly. I just thought when you mentioned that your money was on the Patriots that you were referring to betting with the spread.
Yes! "the colts could of lost that game if the chiefs had any resemblence of their defence while home". But that would have been alot of "if's" and we all know what if coulda woulda been.
I could easily make a case for the Chiefs winning that game. If Johnny Morton doesn't look away before catching that ball on third and 5. They would have had first and goal. They ended up missing a chippy fieldgoal by Morten Andersen. If they didn't call the offensive pass interference on the Chiefs touchdown play that was called back. If Priest Holmes didn't fumble on the long run in the third quarter.
But the bottom line was... the Colts played a near flawless game on offense. It didn't helped that Greg Robinson keep calling blitzes when Peyton Manning was in the shotgun mode.
You don't call blitzes when a qb is 7 yard deep and can see it coming. Especially when he is just throwing slant passes all day long.
Take care, silver

Don Marco wrote on three separate post...
" Well so far I'm 2-2 and to those who laughed at my Patriots pick-- watch on.
Todays action:
Winners: Phili and Chiefs
I dropped the last two games, but am confident my cash on the Pats is well placed. it should be a hellava game tho
I went 3-4 and the colts could of lost that game if the chiefs had any resemblence of their defence while home. The Colts are going down.
Manning is hot, but the sandlot defences are a thing of the past."
Well if you gave out the Eagles and Chiefs and mentioned that you dropped the last two games. Since the Eagles won and the Chiefs lost.
One would assumed that they would be against the spread since both of your picks did not lose straight-up but did against the spread.
Sorry to be so presumptuous.
Take care, silver

I fully expect the favorites to win this weekend. I am looking forward to the explanation from Rush Limbaugh why such an overrated QB like Donovan McNabb is playing in the Super Bowl.
Maybe Rush thinks the Super Bowl is overrated.
By Don Marco on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 - 08:15 am: Edit |
Ya, the post when I said I droped the last two was a typo. I dropped the chiefs.
I didn't wager on the individual spreads, but bet on the brackets throughout the playoff and took a straight up bet on the Pats winning it all (prior to the playoffs starting).
As you said, Manning has been flawless-- the winner of the AFC champtionship will take it all. I gotta believe the Pats can keep him in check (not stopped) enough to edge them.

Snapper, I do not believe that the Colts will win this weekend. I don't think it will be a 3 pointer, either.
As for the Colts winning the Super Bowl, I think there is little hope of that. I rate the teams as follows:
Pats
Iggles
Colts
Panthers.

I have no idea who WILL win, but I am rooting hard for the Colts. Of course this means they'll surely lose. So I gues that means I say bet on the Patriots? How's that for a moment of clarity???
By Explorer8939 on Sunday, January 18, 2004 - 06:50 pm: Edit |
Well, the Panthers surprised me. I think the injury to McNabb was big, it effectively took their best player out of the game.
I hope Snapper only bet $1 on each of these games.
By Snapper on Sunday, January 18, 2004 - 06:59 pm: Edit |
I still want my 15 yards penalty for the late hit to Mcnabb. And how about 20 yards plus two first downs for the four straight serious holds that the Pats were allowed on the Colts drive just before the Pats fieldgoal. Fuck'n refs
still had a good year
By Badseed on Sunday, January 18, 2004 - 07:19 pm: Edit |
No joke, that was a late hit if I ever saw won. And the 4th quarter offensive pass interference was pretty bogus too...
BS

Plus, the Sports Illustrated cover, that was completely uncalled for.
By Ootie on Sunday, January 18, 2004 - 07:50 pm: Edit |
The best team won both games. Don't fool yourself into believing that the refs cost either the Colts or the Eagles the game. If you allow yourself to become unobjective, it will only cause you to make less wise gambling decisions in the future.
A Loved the Panthers and was not surprised at all that they won the game outright as documented in a previous post kind of guy,
Ootie
By Farsider on Sunday, January 18, 2004 - 08:24 pm: Edit |
Yeah, that should have been a penalty for the late hit on McNabb, but it wouldn't have changed the outcome. I don't think the Eagles would have won even if McNabb hadn't gotten hurt. Give the Panthers credit for identifying what they had to do to win the game and carrying it out.
(Meanwhile, the Philly fan in me is pointing the finger at the Eagles' receivers, who were playing scared from the opening snap. I wish I was back in the Philly area right now...I'd love to listen to the sports talk shows.)
Pats were definitely the better team as well. I don't think that game was as close as the final score.
By Snapper on Sunday, January 18, 2004 - 10:29 pm: Edit |
"Don't fool yourself into believing that the refs cost either the Colts or the Eagles the game."
The refs DIDN'T cost the Eagles the game, but I still want my 15 yards. McNabb would have still been out of the game.
However in the Colts situation they would still have had to score on their two minute drill. They can do it, they have done it several time before this year. In that case the refs DID take away any chance that the Colts had.

MilkTuff,
It's me vs you next week.
Patriots luck will finally run out.
Thanks Porker for the negative vibe.
Farsider,
The colts threw an INT in the end zone and fumbled on the 10yd line.
Peyton did not show up.
Friggin pisses me off.
The Panthers are my fourth favorite team behind the JETS, Raiders, and 49ers, so anyone can tell why I hate The Pats and their coach.
The Panthers have played dominant enthusiastic football. The Panthers deserve to win the Super Bowl.
Thanks to a softball game I was unable to place a winning Panthers 1st bet.
Thanks to chatting with mi gambling amigo I was late getting in a winning Panthers second half bet.
I lost first half Colts bet, Silver called the Pats but I could not push myself to bet with a team I hate. I won the colts second half bet so I was down the $10 juice for the day and the $10 6 to 1 Colts to win the Superbowl Bet.
Sorry you lost your $500 Colts bet Snapper.
Nice meeting you last Sunday at HK.
GO Panthers!

well well well, those PATS happened to stumble upon luck once again I guess. Manning showed up, but so did the pressure and coverage on defence this time. Carolina had a nice win, but if you think they will pull off an upset in the bowl, pass the crack pipe.
By Badseed on Monday, January 19, 2004 - 06:27 am: Edit |
Of course teh refs didn't cost the Iggles the game.. still 15 yards was called for on that play.
And yes, Farsider, the Philly sports radio (WIP), the sports columnsits, and the fans are crucifying the receiving corps today- rightly so - starting with Thrash and Pinkston (they got a total of 1 catch for 9 yards).
Considering how many veterans the Iggles are going to lose to free-agency this year and how much better the NFC EAST is going to be, I don't think there will be a "better luck next year".
In the meantime, Panthers are toast in Houston...
BS
By Don Marco on Monday, January 19, 2004 - 07:27 am: Edit |
BS, unfort. I think Mcnabb will also take the brunt of the critism. Although he didn't have a good day, the whole team got soundly manhandled, and as you noted, the receivers should give up their pay based on their pathetic performance.
Unless they open up their wallets, Phili will be lucky to make the playoffs next year let alone win the championship game.

I have confidence the Refs will be better in Houston, one of my former home towns and a once very fair priced mongering town. Ask James worthy.
By Badseed on Monday, January 19, 2004 - 01:01 pm: Edit |
Upon further review...
"The refs DIDN'T cost the Eagles the game".. yeah but, I seem to remember that the hit on Donovan happened when the Birds were at the 30 and the score was 7-0. A 15 yard penalty woul dhave put them at the 15 and witha good chance at 7-7, which very well could have turned teh game. Hindsight...
Anyway, bottom line is Iggles stunk out the house not playing up to their potential against a very beatable opponent. 0-3 at the NFC championships, that takes some real doing....
BS
By Explorer8939 on Monday, January 19, 2004 - 04:51 pm: Edit |
So, where exactly is the Panther's weakness? The Pats have a crappy running game, a team that has a reasonable ability to stuff the run should be able to blitz Brady all day long. Maybe the Panthers will be the team that realizes that.
By Don Marco on Monday, January 19, 2004 - 09:52 pm: Edit |
Explorer, perhaps because the blitz works when a QB holds the ball. Let em try it with short slants and screens, and you'll have your answer.
By Maximus743 on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 02:27 am: Edit |
Don Marco,
Nobody gave the PAts a chance vs the Rams two years ago.
Nobody gave John Kerry a chance in Iowa.
(I'm a Republican though and could care less)
I'm glad I am getting points in this years Super Bowl. Time to make up for the Raiders, Rams, and Giants not showing up for their respective Super Bowls.
By Ootie on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 - 05:19 am: Edit |
"Nobody gave the PAts a chance vs the Rams two years ago."
I gave the Pats a big chance against the Rams two years ago.
I don't think the McNabb non-call changed the result. It was easy to see that the Panthers were the best team against the particular Eagle team that showed up that day.
A Good defense beats good offense (or at least covers the spread) kind of guy,
Ootie

Max,
I liked the Pats vs. Rams as well. However, I ain't gonna say Caralina doesn't have A chance. They played a tough/physical game last week and my beloved Pats aren't known for blowing out any team. It coud be a game decided by which team has better karma that day, but the bottom line is I like the Pats offence vs the Panthers D much more than vice versa. My bet is straight up... would I take the Pats with the 7 spread-- prob. not.

All in all the stats pretty much held to form--
Recap what the stats showed --
Most overated teams -
1. Philly [ no chance to win the super bowl ] didn,t
2. KC [ no chance to get to the super bowl ] didn,t
Take it to the bank game- Indy +4 over KC - won
Teams to win the super bowl in order - 1. Indy, 2. Tennesse 3. Pats - Well, looks like the 3rd team will most likly win the super bowl, these were the only teams playing on a super bowl caliber level, by the luck of the draw they played each other and knock each other off, when these 3 teams played any other team they won and covered each time, tennesse over baltimore and indy over kc and the pats will most likly make it 3-0 su and ats.

Carolina 60 to 1, New England 15 to 1 at the inperial palace in vegas. Did see a story on someone placing $100 on Carolina at 100 to 1. Futures do vary quite a bit , well worth the time to shop around if possible.

Thanks (I was indeed looking for the future odds).
Speaking of the Imperial Palace, in the last month or so didn't they have a terrible flood in the parking area where a woman almost drowned in her car? And I think I also saw where a car drove off one of the upper parking tiers and the driver died.

Wasn't there a rumor around 10 yrs ago or so that the Imperial Palace was owned by an Aryan Power or Nazi sympathizer or something like that? It might have been that there was a display of Hitler Memorabilia, I can't remember. But I do remember everyone went apeshit over it at the time. On the good side, I walked in there one time and got hotter than hell on a blackjack table. That was nice.

SUPER BOWL XXXVIII
IMHO from a stats perspective - Don`t be fooled (again) by Carolina`s run through the NFC, Philly was the worst no. 1 seed ever and the Rams were in the bottom half of no. 2 seeds, as a conference, one of the weakest ever. The Pats have the better defense in every single stat that correlates to winnig super bowls, Carolina`s defense is a bit overrated, it`s very mediocere in 2 important stat`s, and pretty much everything else pionts to the Pats. Pats by 14 !!!
PATS -6 ( buy .5 pt.)- 12 units to win 10
PATS -3.5 1st half - 5.5 units to win 5
OVER 37.5 - 2.2 to win 2
PATS -10.5, +160 -2 units to win 3.2
PATS points scored over 22.5, -125 -2.5 units to win 2
PATS will win first half and win game -135, 6.75 units to win 5
Pats to win by exactly 14 points, 20-1, 1 unit to win 20
PATS to win by exactly 15 points, 30-1, 1 unit to win 30
PATS to win by exactly 25 points, 60-1, 1 unit to win 60
Will either team score 3 consecutive times ( extra pionts don`t count), YES, -175, 3.5 units to win 2

By Lancer on Saturday, January 31, 2004 - 01:17 am: Edit |
Brains over brawn. The Patriots have covered 14 against the spread this year. Carolina is the public's choice in this one. Here in Vegas Carolina is the flavor of the week and the talk of the town.
The Patriots will stop the Carolina run and blanket their recievers. The Patriot running game will consist of their athletic DBs running back Carolina's errant throws for touchdowns.
John Fox was the not so brilliant New York Giant defensive coordinator whose defense was torched by an underachieving Raven offense in the superbowl three years ago. He has done a remarkable job getting here but THE PARTY'S OVER.

Interesting tidbits-- Only one no.1 seed has covered the spread in the last 9 super bowls, although there were 2 pushes, amazing considering that the previous 17 super bowls back to 1978, 13 no.1 seeds covered the spread in the super bowl. The 4 bye teams went a combined 1-6 against the spread. The Patroits are the only super bowl winner since 1978 to have a losing record against the spread thru out the post season, the Rams a few years ago went 1-1-1 ats. Free agency roars it`s ugly head.
