Wow, the Chargers lost the game today due to an incredibly bad decision by the coach to kick a field goal at the Atlanta 11 with 6 minutes left, and a couple of yards to go for a first down. Atlanta then ran up the clock, and that was it. Had the Chargers gone for it, and failed, Atlanta would have been up by 4, and been deep in their own territory.
Had the Chargers scored, they would have been up by 3 with little time left.
Oh, well, live and learn.

Bummer there at the end of the Seahawks - Pats game for FooledAgain, they came 1 yard short of scoring a touchdown that would have beat the spread.
By Silver on Monday, October 18, 2004 - 08:05 am: Edit |
Explorer,
What was ironic about that Chargers game was that all game long... Marty ball was extremely brazen and bolded.
Then came crunch time and the ultimate decision and out came the little general with no balls.
As for the Seahawks game. The whole world was on Seattle. All the experts was predicting upset and as usual... a tip ball here and a gutsy call there by Belichick get the job done.
They are amazing no matter how you slice it. Indianapolis is the best team in my mind and they can't even beat these Pats.
Seattle did have 5 shots from inside the 2 yard line at the end of the game to score a cover TD.
By Fooledagain1 on Monday, October 18, 2004 - 05:24 pm: Edit |
And don`t forget Miami was on the 1 yard line with 4 chances to score and cover the spread at the end of the game the week before and couldn`t do it but got a push on that one, and the week before Beldsoe fumbles and the Pats return it for a score to take away a push , amazing what this team can do in crunch time, maybe the best team i`ve ever seen at consistently making a play in crunch time to win close games.
How about the Indy game last season (regular season game) when the Pats stopped Indy on the 1 yard line with 4 vchances to win the game and as it turned out thaat was the difference in having home field adv. in AFC championship game.
Anyone have any idea what the total will be when Indy plays Minnesota ? Will it be under 70 ?

Stat of the Week:
Culpepper is 32 of 40 (80%) for 516 yds (12.9 yd ave per pass att) with 9 tds and 1 int and 1 fumble on 3rd down this season, amazing.
Chad Pennington in the red zone, 31 tds and 0 int for his career. Not to shabby.

I quess we`ll find out today.
By Porker on Sunday, October 24, 2004 - 04:53 pm: Edit |
Jets looked a lot better today than 90% of the playoff possibles in the NFC. Seahawks lose to Arizona? Falcons down 35-10 at halftime and give up EIGHT rushing TD's? Giants give up 28 to the LIONS? Rams get punked by the WINLESS, ANEMIC DOLPHINS? Talk about 'average' teams.
By Ootie on Monday, October 25, 2004 - 04:50 pm: Edit |
I got very lucky yesterday. I thought the Jets/Patriots would be a close game. The written board in Pueblo Amigo had the Jets getting 6 points. But I got 6.5 points at two minutes before the game started. My $220 got me back $417. That was some 1/2 point.
BTW, there was some tall husky guy with glasses who was running back and forth countless times from the betting windows to the TV screens. It looked like he was concentrating on some type of "half-time" betting strategy because everytime a half-time spread changed on the TV screen he bolted off. It was comical because not only was he making strange gestures with his finger as if writing in the air, but he kept standing in front of a seated guy who must have yelled at him "down in front" ten times. I thought there was going to be an altercation.
A Prophetable kind of guy,
Ootie

It takes true genius to second guess, Explorer.
By Explorer8939 on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 01:46 pm: Edit |
Porker,
my point is that betting on the NFL is ultimately a losing proposition, assuming that you have to pay vigorish. You might win in the short term, but over the long term, experts like FooledAgain aren't any more likely to win than a chimpanzee throwing darts at the sports pages.
I personally am clueless about beating the spread, I would have never bet on the Giants.
By Porker on Sunday, October 31, 2004 - 02:08 pm: Edit |
Where did the guy say he was an 'expert'? I presume he posts his picks here for fun, and some of the guys on this board have had a decent run of success with their picks. What's the harm in posting them? It takes a LOT more balls than saying 'haha, you LOST' when he inevitably misses one (or twenty).
The Vikings were heavy favorites for a reason. If you could have predicted that the Giants would win today straight up you could have quite a killing on the money line.
Re: sports betting in general, it is indeed possible to make a profit if you can pick a high percentage of winners and don't vary your bet size. Just because you and I can't do it doesn't mean that others can't.

Chargers have become Raiders daddy ... sweet reminded me of 1981 55-21 in Oakland and 1992 or 93 at the LA Coliseum.
By Explorer8939 on Monday, November 01, 2004 - 04:07 pm: Edit |
The division seems a little weaker this year. The Chargers seem like a lock for 3rd, after Denver and the Chiefs, and if one of them falls apart, 2nd place. I think 8-8 is possible, maybe even 9-7 with some luck.

I have been a Jets, Raiders and 49ers fan since I was 7 yrs old.
I was at the Chargers / Raiders game yesterday and the Raiders were more pathetic than the Cards were vs the Sox
Charger Receivers were WIDE OPEN all afternoon
I and a number of other ex Free safties in the world could have done a better job
I could not believe what I was seeing I was sitting up close in the big scoreboard End Zone
There were many Raider fans around me but little to cheer about. Just amazing how bad the Raiders have become.
I was so bored and dismayed I spent most of the second half watching one of the Charger girls
through my binoculars. I was close enough that she could see me watching her while everyone else was watching the game. She probably thought I was pyscho and made her uncomfortable but Oh well.
I live in LA so the 3.5 hour game turned into a 13 hour day for me.
I am happy to see the Jets kicking Ass tonight
Finally I am on the winning side.

Explorer --- I`m no expert in the regular season but i`ve been working on a few things over the last 4 or 5 years but am far from having pefected it yet if at all possible.
The playoffs are my specialty, those i have perfected, if you followed my playoff picks for 2004 then you`d know i won units in 6 of 7 sports i made picks in, went 7-1 in my best bets and finished having won 147.15 units, lets see your chimpanzee do that.
In regards to the Vikes and Giants game, the Vikes where my surprise team of the year and i predict they`ll finish the year with a winning point spread record so i`m taking them every week, yes there were things that told me to take the giants and i was well aware of that but i`m rolling with the Vikes. This isn`t the perfect week to take the Vikes either, but i`ll still be on them, if they fail to cover this week then load up on them the following week in Green bay.

I am a fan of fooledagain, few bettors can say they are down 1.2 units after 8 weeks of betting. I just wish you had tossed up some of your NBA playoff picks a little earlier than you posted last spring. You were hitting on all cylinders there. If you ask me, anyone who parlays nba playoffs to nhl playoffs either knows what they are doing or are crazy.
By Fooledagain1 on Monday, November 08, 2004 - 04:45 pm: Edit |
Thanks Bullit, much appreciated, good point, anyone that`s done any sports betting knows how tough it is, to be down just a small amount, i`m satisfied with that at this point, i need just one good weekend to get to the winning side.
I`ll keep that in mind for the 2005 playoffs, i usually wait as long as i can to get a bet in if i think i can get a better number. I once hit 5 consecutive 4 team parlays in the NBA playoffs, anyone who`s bet parlays knows how hard it is to hit 1-4 team parlay, doubt i`ll ever do that again, supposedly it did create a buzz in the sportsbook in Costa Rica.

Fooled, you are one of the few picking the Browns and I think you are right. Pittsburgh just played 2 undefeated teams back to back. Can they come up with a 3rd big effort or are they due a letdown? And Cleveland won at home against Baltimore this year as a fairly big dog. I think they can win outright. By the way, see my post on the Bangkok Post NFL writer, posted today at the same time.
By Fooledagain1 on Sunday, November 14, 2004 - 06:22 am: Edit |
Yes, i agree, possible outright upset, if not this week then next. The browns +4 is the no.1 consensous pick of the contestants at the most prestesous handicapping contest in the world, the Hilton supercontest at the Hilton in Vegas.
By Porker on Sunday, November 14, 2004 - 08:50 am: Edit |
I like the over in the Carolina-SF game because of the combo of two beat up/BAD defenses and a game matching two teams with absolutely nothing to lose. I even made a special trip to Monterrey to bet on this hunch yesterday, but decided my meager pesos would be better spent on hookers instead. With my betting luck, this was probably a MUCH better use of funds, though I had a HORRIBLE session. Still, ANY pussy is money better spent than LOSING on football! Winning... Well that's another story!

I cannot figure out FooledAgain being so stubborn, wait till Randy Moss comes back to jump back on Vikes bandwagon. But next week is good as you play awful Lions.

Fuck the Ravens !
What a fucking bad beat.
the Ravens got lucky because of dumbshit
Dallas reject Quincy Carter's fuckup on the 3 yd line
Vinny would of never made such a fuck up
Good thing I was not watching that game live as I would of busted my TV in frustration after that stupid moron fucked up
So sad Chad had to get injured again and screw up another very good Jets season
That is such a critical loss for my Jets

Thanks Guys
In my baseball bets I was 3 for 4 in the playoffs but I am sure Explorer will have something to say about that as well.
My football parlays I am 3 for 6 and this was the first 4 teamer I did this year.
Winning any game with Boiler is tuff but the Ravens have helped me bigtime this year
One game is got hosed on was the Pats/Dolphins I picked the dolhins as they were getting either 12 or 13 points and the Pats killed them that was the only loss on that parlay card.
If I lose on a parlay I want to lose all of the game not just one !!! I know it sounds silly but thats the way I am.
How can anyone not take the Rams-1? At home??
If I had big money like Sliver I would have put hundreds on that game.
This week I will go back down to a 3 teamer as I do not want to push my ruck
And when in doubt just call Silver at 1-800-its-Skill

NFL uniforms!!
I don't watch that many football games, so sometimes I can't tell the teams without a scorecard. It is me, or did the Eagles just change their uniforms again? They went from their long time green tops and pants to this weird metallic green uniform that looked just like the SeaHawks. Now they seem to have a lot of black on their jerseys. What's up with that?
And then the Giants a couple of years ago went to metallic blue jerseys, and then their white uniforms are now modeled after the 1950's Frank Gifford uniforms. Of course, they have sucked every since they went to the new design.
The SeaHawks metallic green uniforms completely suck - either they ripped off the Eagles or vice versa. They used to have a good color scheme, but green on green is awful.
The Rams turned their old gold (yelloe) into gold. The Pats went from bright red to blue to Navy Blue. When the Pats played the Rams in the Super Bowl a couple of years ago, the new uniforms were so washed out on the screen, I thought my picture tube had lost its ability to project actual colors.
The Cardinals these days are really, really red. If anyone ever watched them I guess it would be significant.
I dunno, I just like teams to stick with one uniform for a few decades, this business of changing uniforms every couple of years is a disgrace. But, it makes someone a lot of money.
By Blazers on Monday, November 15, 2004 - 04:25 pm: Edit |
With Pennington anything is possible.....but I just wouldnt bet against the Steelers at home. I am reluctant to even bet against them on the road now unless its one of the top powerhouse teams. Honestly, I think the Jets and Broncos are the two most overrated teams in the NFL, especially on defense. The Jets have a strong Defensive Line but their linebackers are mediocre at best and their DB's inconsistent.
