Market 8872
kendricks 8650 -222
tbone 8440 -432
ben 8300 -572
ldvee 9000 +128
my 9000 call came in after the market opened on Monday so I cheated, but still won :-) well, I guess not, nobody within 100 points.
Someday one of you guys will have to explain options to me. I have a series 7 training manual and still don't get it.
9000 next week
By Kendricks on Friday, August 23, 2002 - 03:53 pm: Edit |
Put me down for 8650 again next week. You can find a pretty good explanation of options at http://888options.com/learning/getting_started.jsp
By Kendricks on Friday, August 23, 2002 - 08:45 pm: Edit |
I thought the rules said that whoever gets the closest without going over wins? My second victory!!!
By Ben on Saturday, August 24, 2002 - 10:48 am: Edit |
Who ever is closest.
Ldvee wins again.
Kendricks second.
Ben last.
I have never won and I am just superstious enough that I will continue to guess for a drop in the Dow and hope I continue to be wrong.
Dow closes this Friday August 30 at 8450
By Ldvee on Saturday, August 24, 2002 - 11:36 am: Edit |
Do you always act contrary to your hopes, wanting to be wrong? What do your clients think about that?
Just kidding, I think we should have a couple of beers at AB and you can explain options trading while we maul some chicas. Sex and money, good things.
I'll be there tomorrow afternoon.
By Ben on Saturday, August 24, 2002 - 11:50 am: Edit |
Hey I am still recovering from Thursday(La Tropa) and Friday. I didn't come back until late Friday afternoon.
I leave work for a day and look what happens to the market.
I would be happy to meet you sometime in TJ to discuss options, but it needs to be a quite place. We then go to AD for beer and pussy.
By Putanero on Saturday, August 24, 2002 - 01:54 pm: Edit |
I guess you guys won't have Kendricks to kick around anymore.

He posted on another site that he was persona- non-grata here.

By Ben on Saturday, August 24, 2002 - 05:45 pm: Edit |
Was he kicked off by Hombre or just decided to leave because of a warning from Homber or what?
I think it is to bad when a intelligent(granted controversial and abrasive) person get kicked off. Kendricks makes you think from a different point of view.
I dislike censorship and I know its Hombre's board, but give me a fuckin break.
By the way kendricks is not a friend of mine and I have never met him. He has been on my ass at times and very heated on ocassion. He can be very unreasonable at time, but very fervent on is ideas.
I disagree with many of his ideas, but I do respect intelligence
Just my thoughts.
By Toehead on Saturday, August 24, 2002 - 11:45 pm: Edit |
I agree, regardless of what I may have thought about some of his views it was clear he put a lot of thought into what he wrote. As long as I've been on these boards I've NEVER seen anybody change their opinions..Kendricks is an intelligent guy, he should realise that by now. If your arguments aren't getting you anywhere, just walk away, escalating it and turning it into a flame war won't help.
By Putanero on Sunday, August 25, 2002 - 02:00 am: Edit |
Ben
I agree with you.His post on another board stated he was no longer allowed to post on ClubHombre.

I'll go with 8,760
I'll miss Kendricks and his gratuitous sex details.

OK
So Far only:
Toehead 8760
Ben 8450
We need more players now that Kendricks has been abolished from the board. Thanks Hombre.
By Sam on Monday, August 26, 2002 - 10:01 am: Edit |
A group of prominent Saudi Arabian businessman called for the withdrawal of Saudi investments in the US totaling more than $750-bil if a lawsuit filed in the US against three prominent members of the royal family and Islamic charities is allowed to proceed, the newspaper al-Watan reported Sunday. "Acceptance by the US courts of the lawsuit, seeking damages of up to $300-bil for the families of the victims of the Sep 11 attacks, will encourage all Arab investors and in particular Saudi investors to withdraw their investments from the US for fear their assets will be frozen," the paper quoted Basheer Bakheet, head of Bakheet investment house as saying. Bakheet said Arab investments in the US were estimated at $1.3-trillion.
By Ben on Monday, August 26, 2002 - 10:21 am: Edit |
I don't think all Arab investments would be frozen, but certainly even a chance of that happening would scare allot of people out of the U.S. market.
We do have some people in the Executive Branch currently that would be happy to take away both our and foreigners basic rights to things like innocent until proven guilty.
Damn I wish Kendricks was here to put it more eloquently.
Sam give us a Dow pick.
By T_Bone on Monday, August 26, 2002 - 10:30 am: Edit |
I'm T Bone not Toehead Ben.
Also, Kendricks is in at 8,650, but perhaps the
rules don't allow someone to win in absentia.
By Ben on Monday, August 26, 2002 - 10:47 am: Edit |
I will gladly accept Kendricks selection at 8650.
Not sure if Hombre will allow it, but i guess we will find out.
If you are in contact with Kendricks, please tell him I think it is very unfair that he has been removed.
He was one of the more intelligent posters on this board.
So we have:
T Bone 8760
Kendricks 8650
Ben 8450
Sorry T Bone about the error in your name.
By T_Bone on Monday, August 26, 2002 - 12:14 pm: Edit |
I'm not in contact with Kendricks - I would think if anybody is it would be you Ben.
I didn't agree with him often but always read him and particulary liked his gratuitous sex details and posts on this (stock market) thread.
I noticed a SWAT team captured a guy in Pacific Beach Friday night who was making bombs, coincedence?
By Sam on Monday, August 26, 2002 - 01:50 pm: Edit |
DOW 8435
Marina $65/Thursday night at CC
Although, I think the latter forecast would have a higher certainty than the former.
I think Kendricks was the Board's "midde America" policeman. His direct in your face style was entertaining. I hope he comes back. I will not use the "other" board due to a grievance of my own.
By Ben on Monday, August 26, 2002 - 04:33 pm: Edit |
Dow 8435 wil not work as you have to at least 100 points away from other selections.
See above the selections.
You could go 8350 or 8550.
Sorry, ben's arbitrary rule

Will it appears the market is going to be down today.
Ldvee, Here is an example of a trade I did in Home Depot almost two weeks ago and then later wrote covered options.
Home Depot
Price
Date Description Price Per Share
8-14-02 Bought 500 Shares HD $14,325.00 $28.65
8-20-22 Sold 5 Sept. 32 1/2 Calls ($945.00) ($1.89)
8-20-02 Net Cost Per Share $13,380.00 $26.76
If Shares Are Called on Sept. 20, 2002
Net Profit From Stock $1,675.00
Net Profit From Options and Dividends $945.00
Net Profit $2,620.00
Percent Return 36 Days 19.58%
Annual Percent Return 195.81%
Home Depot is down today at $32.65 and has been as low as $32.49. I was paid by an investor $945 and have agreed to sell my Home Depot at $32.50 at anytime between now and Sept. 20th. If Home Depot is at $32.50 or below on Sept. 20 the option expires worthless(good for me) and I still own the stock. if HD is above $32.50 I will have my stock assigned(sold) unless I agree to buy the option back at its fair market value. FMV could be anything depending on what HD was valued at in the market on Sept. 20. The perfect situation for me would be the stock closes on Sept 30 at $32.49.

Dow at 8650
By Ldvee on Thursday, August 29, 2002 - 07:13 pm: Edit |
Ben,
Thanks for the example, I think.
I'll copy and paste, print it and break out the calculator and try to make sense of it.
Maybe I'll ask my fave to figure it out, she's good with $$$$$. Growls at me everytime I mention my cash is in the stock market.
Big rally to 9000 tomorrow.
By Ben on Thursday, August 29, 2002 - 09:44 pm: Edit |
If GE goes down to 27 I am jumping in big time.
They are lowering their earning for the next couple of quarters, but I will buy at that price.
Anybody have stock they like right now?
I have some cash as PFE and GE were sold in August when options were called.
Somebody give me a stock and a reason to buy it.
By Sam on Friday, August 30, 2002 - 04:14 am: Edit |
Over the long haul, look at TIVO. I use the product. It is a real sleeper on the retail market. It has revolutionized the way I view television. The stock has been up and down (like the stock market). But, in the long run, buy this and put it away. TIVO is as revolutionary as the television set it attaches itself to. Either it will become a force to be reconned with, or someone (Direct TV, General Motors,etc...) will buy them. I have personally talked with the president of the company. I am confussed as to why the value of the stock isn't capturing it's loyal customer following perception of the product. He stated that TIVO is comitted 100% to being cash flow positive. This strategy is impacting every strategic decision they make in promoting the product. Their primary focus is to have Television stars (Letterman, Leno, etc...) tout the benefits of the product.
I tell you, any spare change in your long run investment portfolio that you may have, take a look at this company. Its product is ready to take off.
My .02 at least...........
By Ldvee on Monday, September 02, 2002 - 07:37 am: Edit |
Sam, isn't COX cable offering TIVO like capabilities with their digital service? Just wondering if the cable companies will be competition for TIVO?

About the market in general, found this at cbsmarketwatch:
"NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- The Dow industrials and the S&P ended the week with losses, snapping a five-week winning streak as buyers took a break and worries over profit growth superseded a string of positive economic reports.
The Nasdaq also finished the week on a down note after three straight weeks of gains. Checking the actual numbers, the Dow fell 2.4 percent on the week, the Nasdaq 4.8 percent and the S&P 2.6 percent.
Meanwhile, the Dow and Nasdaq saw their fifth consecutive monthly declines while the broad S&P 500 recorded its first monthly increase since March. The Dow ended down 0.8 percent in August and the Nasdaq lost 1 percent while the S&P gained 0.5 percent."
Just some facts about recent history.
-----------------------
Kendricks was the winner last week, and fittingly so. His expulsion from the board is just one more reason for my declining interest in this website.
I'll go for 8700 next week.
Ben, still planning on understanding you example.
By Ben on Tuesday, September 03, 2002 - 06:57 am: Edit |
Hey, Thanks for the mention of TIVO. I will check it out.
And yes Kendricks won. In fact almost right on the money.
I pick 8300 this week and hope i am wrong.

All this talk about having to retest the July lows. What's this all about? Will somebody please tell them that I say we don't need to bother. Will we have to retest the retest? Why don't we just declare them the lows and get me back on my retirement plan for chrissakes.
Ay carumba, looks like this year is pretty well shot. Sep, Oct crappy market, probably a lousey Xmas season, jeez.
I may have to move to southern Baja with a dog in my RV and sit on a beach, catch a few waves here and there, drink some beer, and drive into town at night to get laid. God damn it! :-)
By Ben on Tuesday, September 03, 2002 - 08:09 am: Edit |
Trouble is you have to go to all the way to La Paz to find the night life.
Not much night action in Bahia de la Angeles or Mulege.
Yeah that retesting of the Dow is really scary.Thats why writing options helps in this market

I usually hang in Todos Santos, great winter surf and 1 hour to Vicky's whorehouse in La Paz. Rosie is my favorite there. Cabo is another 1 hour drive option.
Options Maestro Ben, I'll have it figured out by the end of the week.

I just checked on HD Sept 32 1/2 calls. I sold them for $945.00 on Aug. 20th. I can buy them back for $525 today or i can just let them ride for a while.

Sam,
I did check out TIVO, interesting company.
I usually only buy companies that are making money, but I will watch it for a while.

Due to the new tax on Fructose in Mexico, and, Marina no longer being here
By Ldvee on Tuesday, September 03, 2002 - 06:55 pm: Edit |
A Mexican fructose tax, shit, we're doomed. But, being a liberal I like taxes, especially progressive ones that tax the rich more, and everyone knows those fructose farmers are pretty darn rich. I think the Mex Gov should sieze their land, centralize the industry and pay everyone the exact same wage regardless of how hard they work or the type of work they do, christ, pay them even if they don't work. It's the liberal way.
By Jocannon on Tuesday, September 03, 2002 - 07:56 pm: Edit |
Sam: I saw Marina on 8/22. Has she left since then? I spent a very enjoyable hour with her last year and said I'd repeat...
...but it's hard to do when there is always some new eye candy in town to catch my attention.
Oh yeah...on topic...Dow at 8100 by Friday...
Ben, amigo, buddy, accept my late entry?...if so, perhaps I can persuade Caliente to take my parlay after the games are over.
By Powerslave on Tuesday, September 03, 2002 - 08:10 pm: Edit |
The fructose tax is a huge hit on the poor, as it jacks up the price of soft drinks that use fructose. The rich pay no tax on their bottles of evian water. Until Mexico straightens up its revenue system, the country will never progress far.

Hmmm, days like today make we wonder. This is a sentence from a email bulletin I just received:
"Shares of Wal-Mart tumbled 4.1 percent after the company reported that August same-store sales rose 3.8 percent from year ago levels."
Well that makes sense.
Plus GM, Ford, and Chrysler just reported strong sales for the month of August and they're all down.
Is everybody that bought high in the past 5 years bailing out and locking in their losses? I don't get it.
