The game sucks - my bets sucked equally badly. This is the " Super" Bowl ?? 2 inept teams so far. Can only hope both teams play better in the second half. Pittsburgh looks nothing like the team that rolled over 3 very good teams in a row. maybe they read too many of their press clippings.

Pittsburgh pk and over 24 parlay second half is my next bad call . hehe.

Blazers, how's that 'fire Cowher' campaign going? :-)

Wow, what a run by Pittsburgh.

Fooledagain1...

Well, dude, what can one say?

By Don Marco on Sunday, February 05, 2006 - 08:23 pm:  Edit

yawn is all I can say...

Neither team played winning ball-- refs were more important in deciding the game than anything.

One of THE worst SB's in years . Lived up to the name Stupor Bowl this time. Seattle not kicking the field goal when they should have at the end of the game cost me a bundle. Holmgren and Hasselback screwed up big time at end of half and game - not that it would have mattered . Have not seen clock mgmt that bad in years.

By Solid808 on Monday, February 06, 2006 - 12:38 am:  Edit

The Seahawks sure shot themselves in the foot.

Those quick passes to Jackson were working...5 quick catches...Then Jackson went silent...for the rest of the game. Were the Steelers double covering him or did the Seahawks simply favored another game plan?

During the first half, the Seahawks had Big Ben stifled, but they could not capitalize on opportunities and ultimately kept the Steelers in the game with drive killers like penalties and those drops by TE Stevens.

They deserve the loss.

Somewhere amid that five-hour marathon of commercials was a very boring and disappointing football game. Having Madden as an announcer didn't help matters either. I should have ate a turkey and downed about five Ambiens, it would have provided as much excitement...

By Mano_poderosa on Monday, February 06, 2006 - 01:44 am:  Edit

Having a vested interest in the game certainly changes one's perspective. I thought it was the greatest Super Bowl since 1979. That being said, the Seattle clock management was a joke. Those series at the end of the half and the fourth quarter made less than no sense. Still watching Porter give it to Jeramy [sic] Stevens at the end of the game made it all worth while...even the ungodly fact that I had to leave the apartment to watch the game at 5:30 am, without having had any sleep...Now it's time to get one more ring than the hated Cowboys.

Manos.

Message to Fooled Again:

Don't feel too badly about your 2006 playoff run, the law of averages just caught up to you. Whatever you lost this year, you will probably make up in the coming years, minus the vigorish, of course.

No way in hell that guy will ever make money long term betting parlays and wildly varying his amounts bet.

By Blazers on Monday, February 06, 2006 - 02:50 pm:  Edit

It's good to be the king.

Let me address some things that some bitter Hawks fans have been spewing.

The refs did not determine the outcome of the game, even if the correct calls were made, Hawks may have still lost the game.

1. The nose of the ball DID cross the goal line on Rothlisberger's touchdown. This seems to be the consensus of the analysts today.

2. The pass interference call was an incorrect call, although it was technically correct. Seahawks lost 4 points on that call.

3. The holding call that negated the long pass should have not been called also although it might have been holding. It was not an obvious no call...could have gone either way. The pass would have mad them close to the goal line but would not have guaranteed them a touchdown. Fumbles could have happened and Hasselbeck might have thrown a pick trying to get cute. In addition, Steelers are extremely tough on goal line stances, so they may have had to kick a field goal. Best case scenario is that the Seahawks lost 7 points.

That still makes it a tie and not a Seahawks victory and I would bet that Steelers would find a way to win in overtime.

4. One last thing overlooked by myopic Seahawks fans. During the interception return, there was an obvious illegal block to the back on the 30 yard line when Rothlisberger pushed from behind. If called, the penalty would have put Seattle at the 45 and not the 20. That makes a HUGE difference in that drive that was an eventual score

Remember, for every hold called against Seattle, there likely were at least 10 more overlooked.

SCOREBOARD.

By Don Marco on Monday, February 06, 2006 - 03:51 pm:  Edit

blazers,

now extrapolate your imperical calculations to what impact it would have on momemtum and "in the game" adrenalin for the players and you may be onto something...

Were you a player or a statistician for the math club in HS?

IMHO that was a GREAT tackle on the GL and it did not x the GL.

I'm far from a Hawk fan. I would of loved to see all teams at there best and watch the Colts mop up. It was not to be and we were left with mediocre teams. Actually, neither team played close to their personal best and everything from the lame media hype about 2nd tier players to SB ads was a complete bore. I'll be celebrating next year when my Pats return to glory!

By Khun_mor on Monday, February 06, 2006 - 07:34 pm:  Edit

DM
Gotta agree - The Stelars can claim scoreboard but they cannot claim they outplayed Seattle . Hasselback was by far the best player on the field and deserved a better fate.

However, I do think the nose of the football just barely reached the plane of the goal line . Now, if the linesman had followed his original instinct and blown it dead at the one inch line - that call would also not have been overturned by replay. That was the key - the call on the field - as the replay was not indisputable evidence of either call.

Actually I though the Lingerie Bowl at halftime was a better played and much harder fought game than the Stupor Bowl was -- really. Those girls were really knocking the crap out of each other. Some good catfights as well.

Now that's entertainment !!

By Blazers on Monday, February 06, 2006 - 07:48 pm:  Edit

I am in total agreement that the Seahawks outplayed the Steelers...no doubt. Rothlisberger's first SB really showed his immaturity to the spotlight and his nerves were obvious. But make no mistake about it, he will get better and will be there again...several times. What I dont want to hear is people saying the refs robbed the Hawks of a win. The Hawks gave up two huge touchdowns and really played poorly once in the red zone.

I remember people saying that the Pats were a mediocre team in their first SB win as well and had a bunch of no name players but look at them now. The Steelers won a game that they shouldnt have but they have also lost games by fluke special teams touchdowns and turnovers so turn around is fair play.

The refs robbed the Hawks of a win. There, I said it.

A TD and two point conversion would have won me $500 in the office pool. 1,8.

THe Seahawks outplayed the Steelers and it was a sloppy game. Not super at all and the Super Bowl Champions and far from being the best team in football.

Congrats to Blazers on another lucky win by the Steelers. Congrats to my Cousin , Bettis and Mr Rooney a very good Catholic who donates much to charity including A Seminary.

The Seahawks were ripped and I don't care as I won my small bet.

Blazers,

"What I dont want to hear is people saying the refs robbed the Hawks of a win. The Hawks gave up two huge touchdowns and really played poorly once in the red zone.
"

The didn't rob them of the win as Seattle did nothing to deserve the win. However, there were several critical calls going against seattle, which can turn the tide in any game. Luckily, the steelers were rather inept and if the hawks came out to play, they shoulda won. They didn't and history is written.

"I remember people saying that the Pats were a mediocre team in their first SB win as well and had a bunch of no name players but look at them now."

They were, but the BIG difference was they came out and knocked the snot outa the Rams, who were all but annoited unbeatable. Not a 1:1 in this case. A closer analogy would be the steelers vs. Indy, but Indy played much poorer than those rams did.

This is the age of equality in the NFL, so this kind of game should be the norm unfortunetly. Long gone are the franchise building days.

By Don Marco on Tuesday, February 07, 2006 - 05:25 am:  Edit

Max,

"Congrats to Blazers on another lucky win by the Steelers"

There was an old saying that we used to have on the team, "I would rather be lucky than good any day" In the end, the scoreboard is what counts, and in this case, who got the ring.

Gratz to Ben and thank gawd I won't have to listen to that fat, over-rated back named Bettis any longer.

Fooledagain1, you still have a chance to turn a profit in the post-season in the NFL: Bet 200 'units' on the pro bowl. Yeah, yeah, THAT'S the ticket!

By Khun_mor on Wednesday, February 08, 2006 - 01:25 pm:  Edit

Sure Porker -- kick a guy when he's down. hehe

I can't believe they even post odds for a turkey like the pro bowl but my offshore book has the AFC minus 4 (sound familiar ? -- think Pitt vs Seattle). How in the world do you set a line for this mess.

The over under is at 69 ! Expecting good tough defense I guess.

2006 NFL Playoffs

Wild Card Round --- Lost 2.1 units

Divisional Round
Seattle --- won 3.75 units
Denver --- won 15 units
Carolina --- won 8.7 units
Colts --- lost 17.5 units
Won --- 9.95 units

Parlays on game and 1st half --- lost 14.7 units
Parlays 2c`d half, Colts and Carolina --- won 8.6 units
Lost 6.1 units

Won --- 3.85 units during weekend

Now, a few weeks back I made the decision to go for a major score during this weekend, to get the major score I needed to win 3 games with Seattle, Denver , Colts, anything less than 3-0 in these 3 games and I would be around break even or lose.

My picks could do well for the weekend but if I don`t go 3-0 in these 3 games I won`t do well, I knew this coming in, but I also knew I`d go at least 2-1 which would put me around break even so with little downside risk and alot of upside potential I decided to go for the major score.
