YB, or maybe re: Adelman get HIS guys to lay off the pot?
A great line from Jackie Brown where Bridget Fonda and DeNiro are smoking pot and Samuel Jackson declines because it 'kills your ambition'. Bridget responds: "NOT IF YOUR AMBITION IS TO GET HIGH AND WATCH TV!!!"

BERKLEY,
I can't imagine such an animal as a liberal, tree hugger, 4.0(not their speed in the forty) tough guy, but I guess Cal invented this animal in one of their labs.
I mean come on, Cal 46 Michigan State 22 and Cal now 3-0.
No respect for Cal. nerds...

This weekend in College Football...
1. Apparently, Spurrier recruited some talent after all...To go into Knoxville and dominate like that-- the Vols have had some fine recruiting years themselves, if I recall correctly...I think that without Spurrier to deflect attention, the Gators allowed themselves to get psyched-out by the 'Canes in Gainesville...
2. Asking USC to go on the road in the Big 12 and win two games against top 20 opponents in consecutive weeks, is simply asking too much...
3. UCLA?-- what was up with that?...Did the Bruins realize that the Buffs only gained 61 yards the previous week?...Embarassing...
4. Michigan 10, Utah 7-- in Ann Arbor...Another bit of evidence that outside of the top 4 or 5 teams in the country, the competitive playing field is gradually being leveled...This is not necessarily one of McBride's better teams at Utah...

It looks to me like Miami is the real deal.
Miami took care of business against Florida a couple of weeks ago and many felt Florida just wasn't that good. Florida looked pretty damn good to Tennessee fans this week.
Texas and Oklahoma have allot to prove(play against a good team) to see if they are capable of playing against Miami.
First real test and perhaps the only real test for Oklahoma this year will be Texas in the middle of October. The Big 12 just doesn't look that tough this year.
Oklahoma may have a tough time qualifying for the number one bowel game even if they go undefeated.
By Ezy on Monday, September 23, 2002 - 09:48 am: Edit |
Tenn. vs Mia this weekend could be interesting....incredible as it may seem, many observers felt the Vols were looking ahead to the big game with Miami and overlooked the Spurrierless Gators.....

At the half: Florida State 17, Miami 14...
I would really love to see the Canes get beat...Florida State has the talent and "moxy" to do it-- they have the talent to beat anyone, I would argue-- but these things go in cycles and right now the pendulum is swinging Miami's way...We'll see...

Porker:
I really feel that Bowden should have tried to throw once they got down to the 25 with about 30 seconds to play...An incomplete stops the clock, and with a catch they could have run-up to the line and spiked-it...
42 yards is a long, tough kick for a college kid in a situation like that...History-- as you noted-- isnt exactly on Florida St.'s side in these situations...
That said, give the Miami offense credit for digging out this game when they looked like goners down 27-14 with 10 minutes to play...Dorsey and Co. stepped-it-up when they had to...

I didn't care either way (FSU or Miami) because I was rooting for an exciting game and got it. However, I place the FSU loss ENTIRELY on the coaching staff. Like Youngbrig said, FSU needed to get the ball closer in the waning moments for a shorter field goal.
But also, WHY did FSU not go for the two-point conversion at 26-14 with under ten minutes to go? That's a no-brainer.
An FSU deserved to lose after those decisions kind of guy,
Out-of-Towner

Overcompensating is right. FSU looked like they were going out of their way to set that kick up from the right hashmark. Too funny.

Congrats on a convincing victory...
OU outrushed Texas 266-53, and completely shut-down the vaunted Texas attack...OU collapsed the pocket on Simms the entire day, and unlike Major Applewhite-- who could make plays on his own-- Simms was overwhelmed...
If Fla St. makes their kick, OU is ranked #1...
I pretty much nailed down the Longhorns' points, tho-- just didnt figure on the Sooners tallying 35!!...
Enjoy...

The wheels have come off in Gainesville:
Late in the 4th Quarter: LSU 36, Florida 7...
And no, they are not playing in Death Valley...
Zook appears intent on proving his point about Spurrier leaving him with a dearth of depth and talent...But no way should LSU come into Gainesville and win by 30 points...Embarrassing...

Embarassing doesn't BEGIN to describe it!
I can't remember a game that bad (for FL) in a LONG time. And I'm an alumni!
Of course, the bright spot of my day was the FSU game... ;)
By Ben on Sunday, October 13, 2002 - 09:31 am: Edit |
Thanks YB for your comments about OU.
I still think it is Miami and then all the rest.
I went to a sports bar where about 50 OU fans and maybe 10 Texas fans showed up. Allot of fun and good kidding by both sides.
Of course both sides were rooting for FSU to make that field goal. I felt sorry for the FSU kicker and also for Texas QB Chris Simms. Its amazing how benevolent you get when your team wins
By sampson on Sunday, October 13, 2002 - 10:48 am: Edit |
the kicker? i heard the holder screwed up the whole thing and the snap was less than perfect as well. embarassed to say i didn't see it, but that is another puta unrelated story.

Bonvvt,
If FSU had won it would make us (UF) look better if we beat them later this year (which looks totally impossible). I was actually rooting FOR them for a change. I agree with Ootie about the two point conversion. I actually called a buddy during the game to complain about them not going for two.
By Bonvvnt on Monday, October 14, 2002 - 12:14 pm: Edit |
I still have NO IDEA why they didn't go for two other than maybe Bobby B's braincells are finally gone for good.
The coaching staff got slammed by all the national television sports press.
I'm still hoping we can beat them. You know how it is, sometimes we only get up for one game a year...
By Ezy on Monday, October 14, 2002 - 01:36 pm: Edit |
Bonvvnt, Tenn. may have been FU's one time to get it up this year....Auburn, UGA, even South Carolina, are waiting for you before you ever get to FSU....Membership in the War Eagles for Zook and Dawgs for Zook fan clubs are soaring....

Zook will get at least one more year...They will stomach a 7-5 this year; but another 7-5 will send him packing...
Florida will get it turned around...The Gators DID beat Tennessee in Knoxville, so...
What happened to the War Eagle last week vs. Arkansas, by the way?...Arkansas rolling up 466 yards in Auburn?...

By Ezy on Tuesday, October 15, 2002 - 01:24 pm: Edit |
MitchC, Agreed. The FU/UGA rivalry is intense and of longstanding....Spurrier never beat the Dawgs as a player and GA still has a wide lead in the overall series, despite Spurrier's success against GA during his tenure as a coach.....Nothing would please Gator faithful more than the opportunity to spoil the Dawgs BCS chances....Personally, I think Zook and company will be dawg food in Jacksonville...woof, woof....
YoungBrig....Arkansas has played well since rolling over for Bama....they should have beaten Tenn. in one of the multiple overtimes....and clearly outplayed Auburn

Hey,
Lets talk about Oklahoma.
Next three weeks they play: Iowa State 6-1(the real deal, with a fantastic QB/runner), Colorado 4-2(an enigma) depends on which team shows up and Texas A&M 4-2. If they win those three games they will probably win their last three, except Oklahoma State seems to have this bad habit of upsets over OU.
Oklahoma seems to be improving on offense.
Still it is Miami and all the rest.

Ben, uh, are we supposed to say OU?
No team has looked dominant thus far. I agree with your comments about Miami and all the rest, but not even MIA has looks unbeatable....
Miami, OU, Ohio State have the best chance imho.Schedule ruins VCU's chance.
ND if the Irish survive Air Force.
Georgia if the Dawgs start clicking on offense.

Fearless Forecast....OCT. 19
Bowling Green continues its quest for the MNC by rolling over Western Michigan........
In minor league games.....
OU cruises over Iowa State...but not due to Hybel.
'Bama over Ole Miss. Eli Manning sacked 8 times.
Notre Dame over Air Force. The Irish discover an offense.
Florida over Auburn. "Cadillac" looks more like a 73 Dodge Dart.....(Oh, how I hope I am wrong. I hate Gayturds)
Michigan over Purde
Georgia thrashes Vandy...A star is born...DJ Shokley.....

Oklahoma has had very few problems with the NCAA over the years. They had a period of bringing in allot of thugs during Switzers last few years, but most of those types seem to have migrated north to Colorado and Nebraska.
I wouldn't feel to sorry for the state of Florida. I would bet that in the last five years Florida colleges produced more professional football players than any other state. I think this is just an off year for FSU and UoF or is that FU.
