Rather than hijack other threads, I think it's a good idea to have a general purpose thread for any canidate. Somewhere to post thoughts, happening, etc.

However, I recommend a twist to the normal opinion spewage. If someone has a direct question relating to your original post-- feel compelled to respond to it/answer their question (assuming it is a somewhat serious question).

By Don Marco on Friday, January 11, 2008 - 09:12 am:  Edit

Rudolph Guiliani is not paying staff in Jan.

This points to the fact that even small states/primaries (IA, NH) and momentum are of critical importance to a canidate. RG cannot raise money due to the fact that he elected to skip the small states and focus on FLA. Big risk, and thus far he went from one of the front runners to no where on the radar...

By Don Marco on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 - 06:27 pm:  Edit

Well Romney did what he had to do... esp. since SC and FLA look like he's fighting for 2/3rd. I can't recall such a twisted race amongst so many candidates.

And MI without Edwards and Obama on the ticket-- waz up with that? I still can't see Clinton beating Obamo...

By Laguy on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 - 09:30 pm:  Edit

Finally, a Republican I was rooting for won a primary. Now with the Romney win under my belt, I am looking forward to my favorite Republican candidate in South Carolina, Huckabee, winning there, then my favorite candidate in Florida, Guiliani, winning there. Then the real fun begins!

LA Guy,

I look forward to Duncan Hunter winning South Carolina and Ron Paul winning Florida. Rotten "Rudy" Fooliany just needs to go away and the rest of the republican field needs to engage in very self destructive dog fights.

By Laguy on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 - 11:58 am:  Edit

Hot4ass2: My thinking is after Huckabee wins South Carolina, and Guiliani wins Florida, the Republican candidates will conclude this primary thing is not going to resolve who should be their candidate. At that point, being Republicans they will decide to revert to the original intent of the country's founders/framers and settle their dispute by a series of duals ala Hamilton/Burr with Romney having the advantage given his self-professed history of hunting vermin

By Don Marco on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 - 01:24 pm:  Edit

LAG-- now that would be front row primary material :-)

To save you all the grief and guessing, it will be

Mitt vs Obama

By Laguy on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 - 02:23 pm:  Edit

I wouldn't have rooted for Romney in the Michigan Republican primary if I thought he had much of a chance of winning the nomination. I suppose the one good thing if he does win is it would split the Republican party since he is the one candidate all the other candidates hate, or so many commentators have said.

Although not my preference, I'm afraid it will be McCain vs. Clinton. McCain by attrition, Clinton because Obama doesn't wear well over time.

(Message edited by LAguy on January 16, 2008)

By Don Marco on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 - 09:25 pm:  Edit

very plausible, except for the fact the republicans hate mccain (indies won't get him the nod and forget about states that allows dems to vote repub in primaries). I also think clinton has some real haters out there as well.

I agree most candidates hate romney-- it was amazing he cut off mccain while the geezer was in the middle of his concession speech, but romney is by far the lesser of the evils when it comes to the repub base. I'm with ya on Obama, but I just can't see hillary winning over folks.

Honestly, Kerry should of run this time :-)!

By Laguy on Tuesday, February 05, 2008 - 04:38 pm:  Edit

I just noticed a typo in my Jan. 16 post. My fingers typed "Obama doesn't wear well over time," when I meant to type "Obama will wear very well over time." I also meant to say the match-up would be McCain vs. Obama, but again, owing to a typo, I said McCain vs. Clinton.

Damn typos!

By Don Marco on Tuesday, February 05, 2008 - 08:54 pm:  Edit

Well, I guess Mitt is dead and I was wrong bout the conservatives coming to his side. Still can't see McPrune winning the general election. Him and Huckleberry's ass licking of late makes me want to puke.

Also, I'm amazed to see Clinton holding off Obama. I guess I'm outa touch!

By Catocony on Tuesday, February 05, 2008 - 09:43 pm:  Edit

Romney took it up the ass tonight, Huckabee did a much more impressive job. McCain is in on the Republican side, Clinton did ok tonight and is still the favorite on the Democratic side.

By Laguy on Tuesday, February 05, 2008 - 10:03 pm:  Edit

I will be disappointed if Romney drops out. I was hoping he would spend all his money on the campaign and end up bankrupt and on food stamps.

By Iamnasa on Wednesday, February 06, 2008 - 11:29 am:  Edit

Hmm, looks like we gonna have a brokered convention on the Republican side. So you might want to look into what that means. Its gonna be a fun time at the G.O.P.

By Laguy on Wednesday, February 06, 2008 - 12:48 pm:  Edit

The real loser yesterday was John Zogby, the pollster. His on the eve of election polling data had Obama winning California by a landslide and Romney winning there as well. This after his New Hampshire Obama is going to win by a landslide debacle (although at least on that one he wasn't alone). And lest anyone forget, he also was the pollster who predicted on election eve that Kerry was going to beat Bush on a late surge to Kerry.

What is up with this guy?

I know I'm getting close to my allocation of posts in this thread, but there is one other issue I have a question about.

Does Masterbates have any nude pictures of Huckabee's wife?

Okay, now that I have gotten that off my chest, I'll be quiet for a little while.

By Copperfieldkid on Wednesday, February 06, 2008 - 03:38 pm:  Edit

Laguy,
is she THAT ugly???

By Laguy on Wednesday, February 06, 2008 - 03:54 pm:  Edit

CFK:

Let's put it this way. If, god forbid, Huckabee got elected to the Presidency, the SAT would be compelled to add the following analogy to its test:

"Masterbates' pictures are to Club Hombre, as [Huckabee's wife] is to the White House."

Does that answer your question?

Romney did not drop out this morning but suspended his campaign. I listened to his speech, and if anyone thought that he would change course from the Bush years. "Onward Christian soldiers".

RG.

By Laguy on Thursday, February 07, 2008 - 11:32 am:  Edit

I suspect, but do not know, the reason some of the candidates "suspend" their campaigns rather than end them (Edwards did this also) has to do with legalities pertaining to fund-raising, covering campaign debt, and so forth. Alternatively, perhaps Romney is hoping McCain comes down with a terminal illness before the general election, and wants to be in a position to take advantage (then again, something tells me Romney would want McCain to come down with a terminal illness even if there were no direct benefit to Romney).

By Xenono on Thursday, February 07, 2008 - 08:53 pm:  Edit

So I would imagine McCain gets the nomination at this point. That is about the best one could hope for from the Republican side as he is not a religious idealougue and won't cow-tow or appease the extreme right or the evangelicals of the GOP on the issues. (I still hope).

That being said, I sincerely hope we don't see Huckabee as a running mate. McCain is not young and a Huckabee presidency would be an unmitigated disaster.

McCain should have been the nominee in 2000.

McCain is still a conservative, but one of the few moderate conservatives left. The image of McCain, Giuliani, and Schwarzenegger in California was telling. I much prefer that image on the Republican side than Huckabee, Romney, and Thompson.

He supports Roe v Wade being repealed, but will support Federal Funding of Stem Cell Research.

He says leave gay marriage to the states.
He says don't ask don't tell is working.
He says Ten Commandments would bring virtue to our schools.
He says Allow, but not mandate, school prayer.
He says Hollywood should voluntarily self-censor sex and violence.
He says Supports Amendment against flag-burning.

I guess I won't go through them all. Here is a good site of McCain's voting record.

http://www.ontheissues.org/Senate/John_McCain.htm

Of course I still want to see an Obama or Clinton Presidency. But I will be ok with either of the three choices we have now.

By Hot4ass2 on Thursday, February 07, 2008 - 09:24 pm:  Edit

McCain is a fraud! He is so obsessed with seeing his ugly mug on the sunday morning talk shows that he will say or do anything to get there. The man has not done shit for Arizona and has not done shit in the Senate. He married into a political family who bought him an election and we have been stuck with him ever since.

By Laguy on Thursday, February 07, 2008 - 09:28 pm:  Edit

And besides, McCain could never win an arms race [short drum roll followed by cymbal please].

By Xenono on Thursday, February 07, 2008 - 11:22 pm:  Edit

Conservative talk radio hates McCain. Limbaugh in particular has been waging all out war against him. That alone is good enough for me.

I still think that out of all the Republican candidates out there, he is the best one could hope for. Now hopefully he won't pull a Georgie Bush Jr and hang a far right if he gets into the White House. But at this point, I don't believe he will.

I think the question below is something to look for.

What will the evangelicals do?

In my opinion, in a McCain/Clinton race they come out to vote AGAINST Hillary.

In a McCain/Obama match up I think they stay home, which is good.

The other question is how many of the Reagan Democrats McCain will attract.

By Wombat88 on Friday, February 08, 2008 - 04:10 am:  Edit

Ah, those wacky Republicans. When Romney decided to cut and run from the presidential race, it was because he was inadvertently supporting the terrorists!

”If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror.”

I giggled when he suggested that if the US did not change course "we could become the France of the 21st century."

By Roadglide on Friday, February 08, 2008 - 10:12 am:  Edit

That guy talked so much shit in his speech it was unreal. I wish I could find a hard copy of that speech.

I wonder if ANY of the Republicans will ever come out and say that Iraq was a mistake

Onward Christian Soldiers, don't take my rich white kids, just the poor ones.

By Xenono on Friday, February 08, 2008 - 09:04 pm:  Edit

I wonder if all the attacks from the far right conservatives against McCain is really just a coordinated strategy to get the Reagan Democrats to turn back to the Republican side and take a closer look at McCain.

So they are hoping for something similar to the comment I made above. "You know, if the far right hates him he must be worth a look...."

Or do they really just have a sincere idealogical problem with him? Or do they think he is a fraud like mentioned above.

Also, although I am still holding out hope for Obama, I imagine Clinton will still be the nominee.

Kind of ironic that a country clamoring for change and each party would nominate two of the most established, Washington insiders you could possibly nominate. I guess that comment is still premature at this point. But it is just what I am feeling.

Coulter is a good example of a lot of these Republicans. She ridicules McCain for being against the use of torture.

I wonder what her opinion of torturing people would be if she had to endure it like McCain did in Vietnam?

After almost 8 years with Bush, I think it is important to not only know who you want for president, but also to know who is shaping policy.

LAG: The fact that he's old, stodgy, and not a republican is hardly debatable in terms of ideology (i.e. armchair QBeske). Yes, I did go out on a limb and predict romney would drum up support, which didn't happen. However that is a far cry from the sweeping generalizations and slander of late, which some folks are engaged in.

If I may interject. I find the Church of God Doesn't Like Brownnosers very attractive.

They have reduced the ten commandments to only one-- "Prayer is Strictly Prohibited"--and there is nothing else.

By Catocony on Saturday, February 09, 2008 - 06:36 pm:  Edit

I advocate no religion, though I must say Buddhist seem the most agreeable people you'll ever meet. But, as far as religions go, I personally think Mormonism is about a half-step above Scientology, which is at the same level as believing that a retarded banana slug is a god.

The special underwear, the goofy nude weddings, the secret church ceremonies, the entire religion was made up by a guy who just wanted a harem. If they had left it at that I might be cool with it, but its devolved into pure bullshit. I actually try and run down the little fuckers in their black slacks and white shirts as they ride their bikes around evangelizing.

Can't blame Romney for merely "suspending" his campaign.

McCain looks every bit his 72 years (a lot of "apple sauce" in the neck area!).

Romney probably hoping all the 12-14 hour days McCain is putting in ... just might result in a 911 emergency run to the hospital ... upon which the Republicans would have to scramble to find a replacement candidate.

The guy who gets the VP nod from McCain just might be your next President if McCain can get elected.

I wouldn't worry about Huckabee getting the VP slot. The veep candidate is picked by the party poobahs, and the choice usually ends up getting forced down the throat of presidential candidate. For example, Kerry hated Opie, er, I mean Edwards, but there have been more notorious pairings.

Now if Obama gets the nomination and they get Hillary to run as veep, and they win, Obama should fear for his life.

On the other hand, Cheney has implemented all these things giving the office of the VP more authority than ever before. I'm curious to see if the next VP makes any use of the "new order."
