Hi bookguy

It depends on the Wing-house - lol you use.
I tried 3 different winghomes near my area and 2 of them showed traces of sugar not alot to throw my diet off but just enuff to see the results on the pissing strips.
One place used a different sauce for the Thermonuclear taste and it had zero sugar in it and I was in love. I was a skinny 100 wing a week eating motherfucker.
I never had problems with the bluecheese sauce.

I also bought big bags of wings and cooked them myself but could never get the same taste or results as my favorite wing-casa but it saved me a few fucks and i controlled the carb content.

remember you can have carbs on this diet but keep it on a minimum.
Right now i am pretty much a fat fuck. When i first moved to San Diego I weighed in around 145 right now I am breaking the scales at 167 which is not acceptable. I have to rely on my good wooks and bod to get women because i have no money :( and this body right now is unacceptable.

I am honestly gonna go back on this diet soon but here is the problem. What happens when I hit TJ ? And the discos ? Tuff guys don't drink water
they drink cervezas and Tequlia. The locals will definetly think I am a white man if I walk around with Poland spring water. I am in a tuff spot here , perhaps i can fill the beer bottles with water and stumble around like I am buzzed all night ??

lol

Screw McDonald's...if you are near an IN and Out Burger (popular in Cali, esp. So. Cal) you can ask for a cheeseburger "protein style" and they wrap it in lettuce instead of a bun (make sure you say no sauce tho...for some reason they still put the sweet sauce in it...) Remember, once you've hit ketosis, you don't have to be a strict carnivore. It's healthy to have some leafy greens, and salads are more prevalent than ever, even in fast food joints....

Even better than filling up on meat is carb alternatives. I've lost 35-40 lbs and kept it off by buying "Carb Solutions" protein bars and keeping them at the office and at home. Sometimes I just take a few bites and set the bar down for a while. This fires up your metabolism and keeps you from ever getting super hungry. After 30 days of retraining your metabolism to expect 5 small meals/day vs 3 big ones, your weight loss will really take off.

Meat alone might be a good way to hit ketosis, but vegetables and salads are a good way to get important fibre and nutrients. Instead of 'fast food' joints, look for a health store that serves fresh vegetable juices. Carrots are high in carbs, so ask for spinach/celery/beet/kale juice. A real man can down 8 oz of this shit and not make a funny face when he's done, right Milky?

DG & Rexx:

I would recommend that you guys try tofu, yup...tofu...as it is a fantastic source of protein to go along with your carbs. Cut it up and quickly stir fry with other vegetables or place into spicy rice asian style.

Also try small curd cottage cheese for breakfast -just put some manadarin oranges or pineapple chunks in to and it is really good and a protein blast. I have this for breakfast along with a slice of wheat toast, water and coffee about 3 to 4 times per week. Other times I have a four egg omelet with only one yolk and a single of toast.

I am 6'0" and weight 182lbs and go to the gym about 3 to 4 times per week - mix of cardio (30 minutes on elliptical machine) and free weights (60 to 75 minutes) and have never felt better - the trick is good diet (high protein, low fat, moderate amounts of carbs) AND excercise.

I rarely eat red meat (the kind from bovines you twisted perverts) and stick with lots of fish and white chicken/turkey meat.

Not preaching just sharing what worked for me.

Bookguy,
If you are still looking for fast food suggestions; at McDonalds get the Chicken Ceasar McShaker salad with ceasar dressing. They are delicious and carb free. I usually eat two when I have them for lunch.

Be cautious of low carb protein bars because they contain glycerine to make them taste sweet (check your ingrediant list). So even though they are allegedly low sugar and carb, the glycerine acts similar to sugar in your system and will raise your blood sugar, which in turn raises your insulin levels and then you store fat. Alternatively, I travel with a protein powder I like and I can always make myself a meal providing I can find a cup and water. I usually mix it to the consistency of pudding. My favorite is Optimum Nutrition's Complete protein diet drink mix.

Hell Rich you almost sound like you know what you are talking about...I thought you were in good shape because you you were always smarting off and having to run from people...

By Rexxx on Monday, February 10, 2003 - 11:56 pm:  Edit

no shit...Don's built almost exactly like homer simpson (pure skol gut, skinny little legs, lol...) and with all the cigars he powers, I'm afraid to even see what the inside of his mouth, throat, lungs must look like...i worry about that guy...

By Rich on Tuesday, February 11, 2003 - 11:07 am:  Edit

Well Don usually eats late (3 am and consists of 2 Bobs burgers or a couple of hot dogs). Considering his lifestyle, he is doing pretty good for himself I think.

Secondly, I am afraid I have not been an entirely good influence on Don because all I have managed to change about his behavior is the introduction of taking Stillnox as a recreational activity.

He is a hell of a lot of fun though.

By Larryb3 on Tuesday, February 11, 2003 - 11:37 am:  Edit

Rich: What the hell is Stillnox? If I sound stupid forgive me, but I never heard of the stuff.
By the way, are you still in Rio or are you at home?

By Rich on Tuesday, February 11, 2003 - 12:20 pm:  Edit

Larry, Stillnox is another name for Ambien. For those who do not know, Ambien is a sleeping medication which is great for overnight flights to Brazil. It has the secondary effect of causing hallucinations if you choose to not go to sleep. They are available through your doctor here in the states or in Brazil. Stillnix is non-narcotic and nonaddictive so a fairly safe drug. I will happily give one to anyone who wants one at Alcazar if they will agree to take it immediately (they take effect within about 15 minutes to you dont have to wait long for the show to start). By the way for the benefit of Layne (and any other readers from Alabama, Tennessee or Georgia) Ambien is supposed to be swallowed--they are NOT suppositories.

I am in the States for one more week. This time next week I will be traveling HOME TO RIO.

By Layne87 on Tuesday, February 11, 2003 - 04:55 pm:  Edit

it a good thing you will not be in rio when I get there on thursday///I show ya suppositories...hey is your wife available while you are gone???!!!

Thanks for the suggestion, Rich. I also get Taco Bell soft chicken tacos with sour cream and then don't eat the taco. And the local wing house has no sugar or flour in their "hot" style. I get the sauce on the side, bring the wings home, and use my own bottle of carb-free Fromage Bleue (and for those of you in Alabama, that's Blue Cheese dressing).

Layne. Layne. Layne. If I didnt know you were nice I would call you cruel--training her to accept only R300. Well, that eliminates me for sure. Your woman is safe (for now).

And since ignoring the 'wife' comment hasnt gotten me anywhere...I will tell you that I am true to my word about not being the jealous sort and anyone can have her (you have to find her on your own). And keep in mind I have gone to such lengths as sending wives to other continents in order to keep them safe from the likes of UWphoto. Speaking of which... my 'ex', Shyntia MAY have returned from Portugal. I heard this rumor from one of her girlfriends. I will try to locate her and if so will gladly help anyone who wants her to hook up with her. For some reason we fell out of love shortly after she asked me for $1000.

See you in a week Layne.

Didn't Shyntia do your laundry for you.
At $1000, how much "per load" would that have cost you?

By Rich on Thursday, February 13, 2003 - 09:40 am:  Edit

Well, that would come to about $20 per garment---assuming I was dumb enough to pay her (which I wasnt). In any event...yes...she did my laundry during the day while I was rooting my way around in Termas.

She did not know what termas were and so I would just tell her I was going to the boite with my friends. She asked if she could come along and I told her women were not allowed (she was a jealous sort so she felt okay with me going since it was men only). Anyway, she even telephoned Luomo to ask if she could come with me once and they told her no ladies. After that I was able to go to any terma without a hint of grief from her.

Whoo lookit all the Atkins converts! I'm finding it very enjoyable -- in fact, I love the excuse to eat more meat! I'm a bit worried about long-term carcinogen and cholesterol residue, but for now I'm finding it effective. Mainly, being on the regimen (now that the "induction" phase is over) gives me lots of energy. I actually WANT to do my exercises -- imagine that? There's something to this fella's theory ...

I don't really find it to be that difficult to follow the regimen, as long as I DON'T GO OUT TO EAT. But at restaurants there's basically nothing to get except grilled chicken or beef; and at nice restaurants that have "gourmet" dishes there's literally nothing to get. Commander's Palace in New Orleans has a sugar-busters menu, but not a sugar-and-flour-busters. Unfortunately, I've been a "foodie" for life.

I'm also wondering about the teetotalling of fruits. It's my impression that your average hunter-gatherer would probably have had adequate access to random fruits and berries throughout the day, and consequently perhaps our human digestion is actually a bit less susceptible to weight gain when the sugars come in pre-packaged-by-nature fructose form, rather than in refined-by-man glucose form. Thoughts?

By Ldvee on Friday, February 21, 2003 - 07:46 am:  Edit

I've managed to control my weight for years with the high fat/protein plan. I drift off of it, my weight goes up and then I'll go back on until I get down to the weight I want, fluctuate 10 to 15 pounds.

Fruits? I always eat watermelon and pineapple because I like them. They might slow down the weight loss a bit but they're my favorite breakfast. It's all about calories and these fruits are pretty low pound for pound.

Hi Good Kid
well sorry dont on anyplace down in NO for mongering but i am sure during Mardi Grass you should find a drunk skank to fuck :-)

Question how come everytime I see some Mardi Gras video footage it has some ugly old fat ass white bitch showing her tits ? Where are the hotties ?

And Bookguy I blame you for a little of both my problems.
I do feel like a tub of undigested lard right now.
I am breaking the scale at 170 when i first moved out here I was around 145ish.
I cant fit in some of my 32 inch pants and stretching into 33's now :-(

You know what motivates me is women. If I didnt have a hot chic W.A.D. and didnt get pussy on a constant basis I would be working out like Richard Simmons. When I start fitting into bras i will go back onto the diet :-)
Right now i would probably be a C cup )
When I get horny at night I just feel my own breasts.
But being serial now I do see myself starting to work out and most likely will go back on Atkins very soon
I will keep you updated
I did see Connie Chung the other night and there was an Atkins rep there and that motivated me also. One problem with me is I am one big pasta eating fat phuck. I lubba Pasta , Pizza and everything inbetween.
As long as i can have sausages I guess i can live :-)

take care

I'm doing an in-and-out Atkins sort of thing. I go on a vacation, and inevitably drop off Atkins for a week or so. Then, I get back home, and instantly jump back on the induction-Atkins bandwagon. I've done this cycle four times since last August.

What I'm finding is that it's actually quite productive. Although (obviously) I'm not losing as much weight as I would have if I'd stayed doggedly on low-carb diets the WHOLE time, I am having certain beneficial side-effects.

The biggest is, that each induction phase is easier than the previous. I remember my first Atkins induction ever, about a year ago, and MAN was that a nutso experience. Sweats, funny breath, spastic colon (blecch!), the whole thing. But now, when I go entirely no-carb for that induction phase, it seems to be much less of a shock to my system, and in fact kinda feels "better" because I'm back to what my body associates with "quick energy" food.

Another is, that I've now learned to shop and dine like an Atkins-ite. I know where to go, what to buy, and it's not too difficult. I've figured out what (few) fast-food options I have, and have maximized my relationships with those particular food-service providers. :-)

So, I'm in induction right now, day five (I think ... gotta check the datebook) and doing fine. This is induction number seven in the last year (I think ... gotta check the ... hrm ...

By Ldvee on Friday, March 28, 2003 - 06:01 am:  Edit

book guy,

I've been doing exactly the same thing since January. Lost a small amount, 4 to 5 pounds, but what's more important is that I've reversed the slow creep up in weight and feel thinner/better. I'm beginning to think that getting most of your calories from protein is the way to go. And you're correct, eating mostly meat, cheese, and eggs gets easier the more you do it. My nightly few cans of beer is my biggest non-Atkins behavior. I also take Zocor for hyperlipemia and it will be interesting to see how this diet is affecting my blood chemistry.

Think I'll roast a turkey this Sunday.

By book_guy on Friday, March 28, 2003 - 07:18 pm:  Edit

I like the way Atkins just makes me feel "uppity" more often. More often horny for sex; more often interested in minor chores like cleaning up rather than leaving the place a festering pig stye; more often out in the yard clipping some goddamned bush that got overzealous and could be left well enough alone, or could be made all anal and persnickety like suburbanites want it. Maybe suburbanites eat more meat, LOL.

What's "hyperlimpemia"? Something Zocor treats, obviously, but aside from that ... ?

I have the problem of not doing much EXERCISE per se, however. I'm more ACTIVE throughout the day, but I don't go on a run or lift weights any more. I gotta get back to doing that.

By Laguy on Friday, March 28, 2003 - 11:08 pm:  Edit

I've been on Atkins for about 2 months and unfortunately it has done nothing to make me clean up my pig sty. I did lose maybe five pounds, which was less than expected, but I didn't have that much to lose anyway. Haven't yet decided whether the diet is real helpful or not; it hasn't really done anything dramatic for me energy wise. Like Ldvee I also am on Lipitor and will be interested in checking out its effect on the blood chemistry next time I'm at the doctor.

Atkins is not for everyone and a lot of dummies do the diet wrong.

I had a big fat friend who was my lose weight so he bought the book and went on the diet for 3 months and gained 5 pounds :-)
I went through his deit with him and the big dummy ate a lot of fruits and drank diet soda thinking the fruits were ok but a lot have sugar in them.

Caffeine has something in it that stops the weight loss.
And he would sneak in a beer or 2 every other day.

When you do that it is like starting over again and it will take a few days for you to go back into fat burning mode.

After going over everything with him he went on it for about 2 more months and lost about 10 pounds but couldnt handle the diet anymore and is now a big fat fuck again :-(

He says he's happy being a big fat fuck :-)

The guy that turned me onto the diet has tried it again and it stopped working for him.

good luck

By Laguy on Saturday, March 29, 2003 - 01:50 pm:  Edit

Milkster:
Actually I faithfully followed the diet during the first two months (stayed in induction) and like I said I did lose about five pounds during the first two months (mostly in the first two weeks), but no more. After a couple of months I did start drinking a small amount of coffee, but after reading Atkins the only argument I found against coffee is that it does funny things with blood sugar in SOME people and therefore causes food cravings in those individuals leading them to overeat; I have not eaten more food since bringing back a small amount of coffee.
I suspect that the reason I haven' lost that much weight is because I was only about 10 to 15 pounds above my ideal weight to start with, and I generally did not overeat before starting the diet.
Probably as a result of reduced carb intake I do feel a bit more relaxed on the diet, but this has not translated into extra energy and the effect is not dramatic.
The one thing I should do is exercise more, but that would help irrespective of whether I was on Atkins or not.
I do have a problem with Atkins though, after seeing him on television a few times. He always has excuses (i.e., rationalizations) for those who are not successful on his diet. For example, one woman called up and said the diet didn't work for her and when she said she was on birth control pills Atkins started laughing as if to suggest "you idiot, of course if won't work if you are on birth control pills." I'm not sure I've seen him say this in any of his writings, however, although I may have missed it. In any event, while birth control pills can result in weight gain, Atkins did not articulate any reason why his diet would be totally defeated by using them (my recollection is the woman was on birth control pills both before and after starting the diet, so that factor was constant).
I'll have a better handle on my reaction to the diet after I get my next blood work done. In the meantime, I am reserving judgment.

Do you guys blow up like a balloon when you stop the Atkins diet?

By book_guy on Sunday, March 30, 2003 - 09:16 pm:  Edit

I haven't blown up "like a balloon" on any of my interim phases between Atkins inductions. I simply stop losing, and (probably more important since this is what Atkins is ideal at controlling) my appetite starts to grow in direct proportion to the amount of carbohydrates I eat. If I have several big desserts in a week, then I'm soon craving huge meals at all 5 mealtimes during the day; if, however, I'm off of Atkins but merely slightly, my appetite remains slightly larger than an Atkins appetite. It's a 1:1 vicious cycle self-replicating thing, carbo-consumption:appetite-for-more-carbo-consumption. In my experience.

I have tried Atkins in the past and the First time i actually lost abt 15-18 pounds in 2 months... this is my second time around. From the first time which was about a year ago i did manage to gain 9 pounds back.. but that was due to all the junk I ate and no I mean no workout whatsoever (unless you call playing video games a workout... strong fingers...) This time around I have thus far lost abt 10-12 pounds... but my energy level may have something to do with it... I actually want to go to the gym, well if you try it I would strongly suggest that you take all the vitamins & Minerals that are recommended also look at coenzyme Q10 (100 mg), for some reason this has helped me a lot this time around... ooh and something like philax tusks (helps you shit) are strongly recommended...

I did the Atkins diet about 3 1/2 years ago. I lost about 35 lbs in 3 months (from 225 down to 190). I am 6'0" tall so I was pleased with 190. Today I am at 204, but a lot of that is more muscle.

Well I want to maintain that muscle, but drop the excess fat around the mid section. I am now wokring out a gym 3 times a week for 45 minutes. My goal is to get a psuedo 6-pack back in 2 months. I am also putting my self in Ketosis to help burn that fat away quickly.

After-all I need to get in awesome shape for my CR trip in May. 5 days with a 21 y.o. Tica swimsuit model that has no fat, no kids, and is fluent in English. If that's not incentive to get in shape fast, then what is?

I love the Atkins diet, but I do take the dialy vitamins they recommend.

What daily vitamins do they recommend? I remember reading something about that but it must have slipped my mind ...

Supplements are good no matter what the diet. I take a multi-vitamin with minerals, a fish oil capsule for the omega-3 fatty acids, and an aspirin to thin the blood a bit (I'm over 50). My doc approves of / ecourages all three.

For the past three months the vast majority of my calories have been from protein/fat and for the past couple of weeks all have been from soley meat. I'm definitely dropping some poundage and losing girth.

One thing I've noticed is that my appetite has decreased substantially. I no longer crave food and feel tired in mid-afternoon. I guess without carbs the blood sugar / hunger swings are moderated.

Atkins is a strange diet, I now look at foods and go for the ones with the highest protein/fat content.

Think I'll have a glass of half and half cream for breakfast.

Also, the experts are saying that most fad diets work if you stick to them, the real trick is keeping the weight off. I agree, but you have to lose the weight first to face the "keep it off" challenge and Atkins seems to work.

I'll probably never eat the amount of carbs I used to.
