So I gotta run over to a service bureau today to crank out some bitmap files...my system is too small to handle the file sizes efficiently. Once done, I'm lookin' for lunch. I pop into a local restaurant (more like a drive-in) that serves MX food. I hadn't visited this restaurant in about 2 years. It used to be owned by a Cubano, whose specialty was using black beans in everything instead of the more common red beans (apparently black beans are a Cuban thing..)...but it was recently bought out by a Mexican guy who is willing to substitute black beans for red, on request. I'm talking with the new owner while I'm waitin' for my chicken burriton with black beans. I don't know how it happened but the subject turned to Tijuana. (Oh yeah...I asked him where he was born. He said MX City...and then he wanted to know if I'd ever visted MX) Then the guy asks me why to I go to TJ...and he's got a big smile on his face. Then he mentions Las Chavelas...Then I mention Calle Coahuila...then Adelitas...then the next thing I know we are both exicitedly drawing maps on "burrito wrapping paper" with a felt pen, of the Zona Norte! Yeah, here's Articulo 123...and here's Callejon Coahuila cuttin' off from Constitucion...and here's Calle Coahuila...( this guy had a thing for the New York Club...)Then all the guys from the kitchen come out and start adding their comments! I might as well have been in the Zona... Turns out this guy flys down once a month, rents a car at the SD airport and hangs in the Zona for a few days.... I told him I'd probably be seein' him down there... KRICO |
