Take some time to understand life from las chicas point of view. Come to understand who they are as people and where they come from within Mexican society. What is their average education? What socio-economic beginnings have they come from? What are their goals in life? What are their prospects in life?? No matter the chica, or even what country from which she may come, make sure that when you judge her, or her behavior, that you take some time to view things from HER point of view. As has been suggested earlier, most of las chicas come from disadvantaged beginnings. Many (most?) have limited education. And, some have come from places and families where education is not valued. Nor is education advanced as a way out of poverty, because in most third world countries, it isn't. Learning English requires education. Hell, learning Spanish requires education. And, most of the guys here seem to be pretty well educated, but how many have taken much, if any, time to learn Spanish? And, most linguists will tell you that learning Spanish from having English as a fist language is MUCH easier to do than learning English from having Spanish as a first language. We are visiting the home country of las chicas. I would suggest that it is incumbent upon us to deal with las chicas in their native language. Think of it this way. In the 1980s, the Japanese were coming to the US and doing a LOT of business, but if they'd asked us why we didn't bother to learn Japanese, we'd have been insulted, and told then that they were NUTS. It's funny how this same question came up on a Thailand board recently. Why are we so quick to expect people in other countries to adopt our language?
