End of story.

If you have the time or inclination, ask him why there is a current national policy to universally vaccinate all newborns and school kids against Hep B. The fact is people in their twenties, thirties, etc. simply were born too soon (before the vaccine was widely available and recommended for all.)

It is true that some local health departments and insurers, HMO's etc. target the vaccine only toward the younger set, which is probably more a function of saving money than medical appropriateness. The fact is that in the US, sexual transmission is now the number one mode of transmission for Hep B, so anyone who is not abstinent nor in a long-term monogamous relationship has a good case for wanting to protect themselves.

In San Diego County, you can get the series at the County STD clinics when you have a standard STD screening at no additional charge.

If your insurance doesn't cover it, and you don't want to go the STD clinic route, I suggest you pay for it. It's worth the peace of mind.
