My brother, it's not that 'ice mongers,' as you call 'em, don't feel thangs for at least some chicas, and it ain't as if they just shut off emotions to protect themselves. It's that they (or I anyway) feel emotions but don't let their emotions creep up all over 'em and make 'em do stuff that just has nothin' to do with reality. I've gotten choked up over a few girls I knew or know down there, felt really close to 'em, etc., but the reality is that they are in a situation that makes a 'normal' relationships almost impossible, and I know I am one FUCKED UP psychological case too--I'd say that's pretty generalizable to most mongers (if ya didn't have at least an issue or two on commitment and 'normal' relationships, it's unlikely, though not impossible, that you'd be gettin' ya groove on in the zona). So, yeah, emotions are at work--but they are framed within the context of (here comes a generalization, but a pretty accurate one, I think) two people with real relationship problems, in an objective situation that is almost always poisonous to relationships. Some dudes ignore reality and go for the fantasy--I guarantee you the vast majority don't wind up in eternal bliss with their little honey. The definition of fantasy is that it ain't real. Some brothers get a big charge outta playin' them kind of games, even if (when) the building falls on their dome--I don't. I get my charge outta acceptin' the rules of the game and playin' it as hard as I can when I can, and not expectin' shit that ain't included in the rules of the game. Somebody's now gonna tell me "but what about X, that famous monger who married his fave and they're happily together now after 120 years?"--much love to 'im! That's what I say. He's a miracle. Miracles happen. The reason we call 'em miracles though is 'cause in the vast majority of situations, thangs don't happen that way. I choose to do my buckin' of tha odds elsewhere, where I think my odds are slightly better than the zillion or so to 1 that I think prevails in the zona. |
