I really, really, really like to think that I am firmly perched on the 'sex w/ ninas is really, really, really bad' bandwagon. As a practical matter, and most likely in a moral sense too, it is really, really, really not a good idea. However... The thing I can't ever seem to separate from these feelings is the sense that any statutory age limit is by its very nature arbitrary. What is the magic age? Who decides? What happens to the dissidents? You mention the standard of adulthood. Define 'adulthood'? Is this the uniform definition applicable to all cultures? Can the old crude joke re: puberty about needing 'grass on the field' to play ball really actually be a moral rubric? Sex with young girls is NOT my thing at ALL. For me it is pretty easy to stay away as I am generally not attracted to them sexually. But people that I know, like, and respect ARE sometimes. For many, many males old enough to have a libido, the body of a 14-16 year old girl is exceedingly arousing. Are these guys freaks? Nature would probably say no, but our society says yes. I agree somewhat about Aardvark's stance against moralizing against things like patronizing underage chicas when it is our dollars that have created this economy to which they avail themselves. Personally I would like to see all the underage chicas magically go away and return to their hometowns and their loving parents and siblings so they can finish high school, go to college and graduate school, obtain rewarding and lucrative careers, find a soulmate, get married and live happily ever after. But you can't play poker with a pinochle deck. Every chica working in the Zona has made that decision for herself and most didn't get there by having been the black sheep of the proverbial Mexican Waltons. Whether they are old enough to make that decision is impossible for me (or anyone?) to judge. What would YOU do if you had 2 ninos by the time you were 15 and had no way to feed yourself or them and had been disowned by everyone who knew you? Certainly not everyone would choose to go to TJ and become a puta, but some DO. If they are shunned by a united-non-nina- doing-monger-front, are there alternative ways for them to survive? I don't have the answers to any of the questions I have asked here, nor do I think that there are simple ones. Next time I wince when I see that the apple of my amigo's eye has a Rugrats wallet hopefully I will remember some of them for perspective's sake.
