When I was in TJ recently, I followed the advice given by many, to observe the local custom and always sit in the front seat when riding in a taxi. However, on at least two occasions, the cab driver held the back door open for me. I didn't want to come off as being a jerk, so I sat in the back. Was this some kind of a test? Or is the whole front seat, back seat thing overstated? I should point out that on both occasions, I ended up paying five bucks and no more.
