The best rooms at the VZ are the "deluxe" rooms...definitely a couple of steps up from the room you got but getting very overpriced these days at $58 including tax (recent price increase may be a product of weakening exchange rate for our dollars right now). VZ is clearly the best hotel in either El Centro or Zona Norte. Though it is true that the deluxe rooms can't be considered a "bargain" anymore. If not for the walking convenience factor, it is starting to make more sense to stay at Pueblo Amigo or some of the nicer Zona Rio hotels when you want to have a nicer room to bring a chica back to. BTW, I have never been asked for a key deposit at VZ. I always use a credit card. Once I did lose my key and they asked for additional cash on top of my room charge for the key...so they hadn't added the key deposit to the card.
