Of course you will go to jail if you can't resolve the conflict - so will EVERYONE involved. Insurance doesn't do shit to change anything - you will still end up in the hooscow if you don't play your cards right.

One of the cards in your favor(before the cops show up) is too bluff that you don't give a shit if you DO go to jail. Having a beat up old car, and speaking Spanish helps a lot here.

The problem with many of you folks is that you assume that Mexican law should be like our law. It isn't. In some ways that is good(tolerated prostitution, higher alcohol content in beer), and other ways it is bad(corruption, bribes, everyone is assumed guilty until proven otherwise). The thing is, in most cases in Mexico, everyone IS guilty - so their system is more appropriate for their culture.
