So very true! It is definately a whole new and more facinating experience to be able to converse with these women in their native language. They are always very impressed when what at first glance appears to be a "stereotypical gringo" turns out to be someone who can "bridge the gap" between two very different worlds. As explorer mentions, their stories are often more interesting than fiction(altough much of it probably is fiction). It is all too common and sad to see guys who buy a girl a drink and together they stare off into space until she finishes it. At least they could buy her a drink and let me talk to her! I've progressed quite well on the spanish learning curve and encourage everyone else who has the desire to do so. Once you have conquered la coahuila, you can fan out to all of the other great destinations in Latin America. And I have to admit that tijuana pales in comparison to the multitude of other destinations. I have played around with one approach that always shocks the chicas, similar to your "talking dog" analogy. Anyways, I approach a girl who I have never conversed with, and I talk to her in castillano (south american spanish). It ALWAYS gets their attention since they get very confused and first, but are intregued and curios to find out more about me.
