I have not really hit the jackpot at Pollo in quite a long time ... I have stopped in a couple of times over the past 3 weeks, and have not been real impressed.

Stupid question but...what time were you there? They don't open their doors until 7 pm-ish and the action rarely starts before 8-9 pm-ish.

They just remodeled the place so you may have gone while they were doing this.

Visited Pollo Bar for the first time Friday night and was pleasantly surprised. Pretty nice and clean interior, although the flourescent carpeting is a little hard on the eyes. Saw several girls at least as nice as the nicer ones at , say, the Hong Kong. Their gig seems to be to sit with the customers in between stints of dancing and try to get them to (a) buy them drinks, or (b) take them to the hotel to fuck--no private booths on the premises.

One rather slim, young chica caught my attention. For the price of a couple lady drinks, she was basically all over me--a little bit of lap dancing mixed in with a little bit of titty sucking and pussy fingering. I definitely got the impression that, unlike, say Madonna's, things can get a lot more wild and management won't care--that is, as long as you're buying drinks.

All in all, I'd say the Pollo bar, like the Honk Kong bar, is another good place to down a few brews and get warmed up for the main course

Last time I was in Pollo (a couple months ago, I think), they had pulled up the carpet and were remodeling. Gone was the unusual carpet with funky flourescent trucker-mudflap girls. Have they reinstalled the carpet, or did they pit in a new carpet?

Yes, the Pollo bar had the mud-flap girls motif going, but, still, I thought the place was rather clean and had potential. I know I'm going to include it on my list of to-do's when I'm making the rounds in TJ from now on.

The girl I spoke of said her name was Liliana, and I believe it to be true as she is mentioned in a previous post here. I got short changed big time and the manager or owner of the place is a crook and blames me for being a customer. I was surprised that they would rip off for small change I guess EVERY peso counts. I will never go back. Even if you-buy an hour with the girl the hoteu guy will knock after 30 minutes and guess what, you're out and the hotel guy will tell you to take it up with the manager of the club-so you're out of luck. I can't speak for all of the rip-offs BUT on my last trip to the zona, there was a group of young chicas working there who were just adorable. My amigos and I were treated to their little rituals as we sat enjoying some beers. They were obviously high but in a good way as they danced with each other and solo in front of the mirrors and each in turn would giggle at each other's performances.

As you (should) know, "rip-offs" are as commen in TJ as chicas named Alejandra and you just have to look out for them, dodge them when you can, & laugh when they're "attempted" on you!

Opportunity vs Rip Off. . . . . .

I agree that they are there to take advantage of opportunities, but this is quite another story. It was a set up from the start. I've been mongering for quite some time now and have had my share of experiences. I should know better when I see a scam coming down the line and I do but this one was a broadside big time. Anyway, I hope I get a chance soon to post the report, I've done a lot of travel in Mexico this month so the posts will take time.

One thing would limit the bullshit we have to deal with in TJ's clip joints.....no more male waiters....meseras only. The men are all deportees and are criminals. Just get a couple of local gorditas and you would have minimal problems.

Again, I understand that it's the "law of the jungle" in the Zona, no question about that and your experience will be defined by your negotiation skills and your street smarts. Nobody expects to be marked as they walk in the door for a rip off, maybe expensive service or whatever the traffic will bear, (chica drinks, etc.) but to set you up the way I was set up is not what any of us expects (or deserves). If they want to make money by shoving the drinks down our throats (if we are stupid enough to go that way) and the chicas upselling for extra services, that's all part of the game and I can accept that. Knowing that they are going to knock in 30 minutes after the deal was one hour, sending the hotel guy who "doesn't know anything" to do the deed, refusing to make it right and just blowing it off is quite another.

With all the things we might be foolish enough to fall into, this should not be part of the program and the management should know about it. What happened here is that a fellow hombre got ripped big time. I will certainly move on but are we going to allow this sort of thing to happen to any of us?

With all the strife at Adelitas, the Alley, CC etc, at least they do not engage in this kind of rip off behaviour. Can we draw the line somewhere?

I'm sorry but the last statement can & has been used about almost every place in the zona. My counter is (AND, not a dig at CJ) that only the "clippable" get "clipped" in a "clip joint".

That said, a few years ago, Pollo was always my destination spot when in TJ. There were always a selection of young little chicas that, for the most part, just wanted to have fun. I NEVER went up with any Pollo chica but always had fun there. I hated the booths and the little stools were back-breakers but with the likes of Alexis, Jaime, Lucy, and others through the years, it was a fun place. That it has changed is a disappointment but to label it a "clip joint" mostly just labels yourself.

I don't consider myself "clippable" because I've seen it all over the years, and I'm always on guard. But, coincidently, I made the same comment last night to my friend as we watched the Trinidad fight from Pollo. [Pollo has a EDTV wide-screen in the back and it's great to watch the fights from there- they even fixed the sound system and now you don't need ear plugs during the commentary.] Here are my two observations from last night: (1) I order a Red Bull and pay with $100.00 bill. I look the fat masero in the eye, show him the C-note and ask if he can change it (in Spanish). He says 'no problem' and then comes back in 2 minutes and explains that the change will be take time. I say 'no problem' and then the guy comes back in 5 minutes and shorts me one $20.00 on the change. I fucking tore into him and he pretended that he made a mistake counting. This works for drunk Gringos but I was stone cold sober and gave no impression otherwise. (2) T make matters worse, he short changed my buddy 20 minutes later (again, mis-counted the change)-- and he is a pure-blood Mexican who speaks perfect Spanish. There's no excuse for this. For you guys that like to get buzzed and don't speak Spanish that well, I can see the waiters taking advantage of the situation, but this guy was out of bounds in this place. In the past the few times that I took the plunge with the chicas and went to the adjacent hotel- I got totally scammed by the girls and had terrible sessions. So I basically feel this place has not achieved a level of relative professionalism that the other clubs have. I've never had a problem with changing my C-notes in AB (and I've done it a bunch) and only 1 time in CC and it was totally my fault for not confirming a recognition of the value of the bill before he split. The place is a 'clip joint.' All places are if you let them be, so TJP's point is valid, but this place seems to exceed at it.

Pollo IS A CLIP JOINT.

It's one thing to be "clippable" as we all are to a degree, the point is a valid one but everyone who walks through the door at this place is a target. Who needs that?

These guys are waiting for you and will try to get to you, vet or newbie. My advice is stay out of that place.

Pollo in the past had been a place for me to have a great time, I even took a chica or two upstairs and had great sessions.

But now I avoid this place except to see if the talent has improved, even then I get targeted and harassed by meseros and chicas. Even if I did see an exceptional looking girl, I know that there would be a price to pay in drinks, before she would make the move upstairs.

You have to be on extreme guard if your going to setup in this club for any length of time, even if you regard yourself as unclippable. Even so you will not have as good a time fighting off the aggresive scams and propositions, as you would elsewhere in the Zona where there is less or no pressure.

It's interesting to note that some of the agressive girls at Pollo are now working in Bar Tropical, and while initially agressive, are now tame and do not harrass men as they had at Pollo.

The waiters are drug dealers. The girls all use drugs. The waiters are fucking all the girls. The manager is the head drug dealer and padrote. When you walk into the bar you're looked at by all parties as a walking ATM.

ALL THAT BEING SAID: I'd bet you can still get quite a bit of mileage for your dollar. Just have both eyes open and firmly on the bottom line.

Funny you say that Porker. The last girl I took to the hotel from Pollo started doing lines of coke in the room. Normally, I don't care because it usually makes the girls perform better. But this chica withdrew into a ball in the corner and started shaking. I coaxed her to the bed and she laid there staring at the ceiling. Total turnoff and ripoff at the same time. I just walked out, what was I going to do? Take my money back? I "could" have done her so it probably would have landed me in trouble. There are young lookers here but I 'd stay away.

Seems like they plan the exit when you are planning the entrance. I had Yasmin (?) and when she got to the room she started throwing up. Stupid me thought she was sick. She was using her finger. The idea being I wouldn't fuck a sick chick after paying the fucking waiter in the club.

I complained like hell but got nowhere. "Fuck you" was the attitude. I actually take people in there and tell them in front of the staff that the place is a rip off joint. They tried kissing my ass but they can suck my dick.

There's no need for this kind of behaviour. We spend our money, pay the girls etc. the money flows. No need to set anyone up for a clip. Fuck them.

What's the status of this place now? A few years ago, it was always a destination place for me and my amigos as there were always a few young cuties there and they all danced, most down to nothing. Over the years they've tried to rearrange the place for maximum occupancy but they never got rid of those back-breaking stools. The place certainly had it's negatives too: I have never seen so many rip-off attempts by waiters in any other bars but they were very fun to watch AND catch!

If someone can tell me whats up with this place, please do so. Thurs nite I was walking from hong kong over to tropical and the barkers were all the way over by botana. The guy was nagging me and I told him that everytime I went over there it was dead. He assured me lots of people and lots of chicas so I popped in. No people and a couple of cute chicas. I don't know how they do it. I think the first time I ever went in this place was about a yr1/2 ago and probably been in there a handful of times since. Every time theres never anybody in there. How do they make $ and does anybody know of any nites when they do draw a good crowd?? Thanks.

Too many people know that Pollo Bar is a ripoff place, so it is losing business. For a bar so far off the beaten path, it will live or die based on word of mouth, and the word of mouth is pretty bad for Pollo Bar.

It appeared to be closed by 1AM this past Saturday night. With AB business way down and Tropical 1/3 full at this prime hour, you can be sure that there won't be anybody spending money at Pollo aside from any word of mouth that may keep some away.

LC remains a consistent hot spot (but chica selection is spotty to say the least these days). HK remains jammed on weekends, and La Tropa is experiencing a huge business and chica upswing - but still very few gringos aside from the groups the street hawks bring in for "presentations" at the massage parlor.
