Day One

One day while I was researching fares on AA.com I came across (what I thought) was a pretty decent price to San Jose, Costa Rica. The cost was in the neighborhood of $400 RT from Arizona, taxes included. I figured with my electronic upgrades I could get bumped to first domestically and then business on the international leg. So I decided what the heck and got the ticket.

The bummer came when I went to book hotel reservations. Note: Do not wait until two weeks before you leave to try and book a hotel in San Jose over Labor Day weekend. It is so silly because after all the traveling I have done, I knew better. I procrastinated booking my hotel and pretty much got what I deserved. What I saved in airfare, I probably lost in hotel price and fees.

I originally wanted to stay at the Sportsmen Lodge. It was booked. I tried the Del Rey, the Presidente, and heck, even the Morazon. All booked. I think the Morazon’s email kept bouncing back to me.

I eventually went out to http://www.ichotelsgroup.com and booked three nights at the Holiday Inn Aurola. I got a rate of $76 US per night, but that of course did not include the rip-off $20 lady fee. But now with my room and flight confirmed, I was ready to head off to Costa Rica. I pretty much blew off doing any kind of research on CR. I thought I’d read enough over the years to be familiar with the place. So armed with only my memories of those readings and a map from one of Coqui’s Reports I headed off to San Jose.

The good news was that my upgrades were confirmed as early as possible from Arizona to Dallas and then Dallas to San Jose. It was a short and easy flight all the way around. Getting through customs in San Jose was a snap and mural on the wall in customs was pretty cool. There were also posters in front of each customs booth warning not to fuck children in their country or they were going to fuck your shit up. It was all pretty prominent actually. Upon existing the baggage inspection area there was a life size human cut-out with a text bubble saying something like, “Hello tourist. It is a crime to fuck children in our country.”

I headed to a taxi stand and bought a ticket into town. As I recall, the taxis were orange and it cost like $12 or $16 US to get into town. Don’t quote me on that price though as I don’t entirely remember. The ride into town was short and uneventful. I checked in at the Aurola, showered and cleaned up and then headed out to Idem. It was around 9pm when my plane arrived and by the time I got into town and all ready it must have been close to 11. Here are some pictures of my overpriced room at the Aurola.




I got into one of the taxis in front of the Holiday Inn, told him Idem and we were off. On the way there, the driver started pointing out all the transvestites that were walking the street. We got to Idem, I paid up the driver and headed in. Idem has a very small bar area. The ladies are seated along the wall on the right side of the building. The bar is on the left side of the building and there is a narrow corridor between the bar and wall where the ladies sit that leads to the rooms in the back and upstairs.

I had a seat at the bar and ordered a local brew. I checked out the talent, which was pretty poor, for about 10 minutes before calling one lady over. I actually was torn between two and I think I ended up choosing the less attractive of the two. She also had a few extra pounds on her as well. But she seemed nice enough so I decided what the fuck and took her up. We got up to the room and I paid about 20,000 colones. She took the money and disappeared for about five minutes before coming back. We then got undressed and got down to business. She did provide a BBBJ, which was more like a BBLJ. Multiple positions, some kissing, it was a nice overall time but nothing special. We showered and cleaned up in the some public/shared showers afterward. By the time I was out the door the place was pretty much closed up.

I got into a taxi, said Del Rey and the next thing I knew we were there. I entered from the side street, the same area the bar was on. The bar area was simply packed with customers and ladies. It was like Adelita Bar in TJ on a busy night. Well, maybe not THAT bad, but it was pretty crowded. I did a couple of rounds and ended up talking to a few ladies. None of the ladies I spoke with would agree to a BBBJ. They, of course, all quoted $100 US.

The main action for finding freelancers seems to take place in the bar area upstairs. The ladies will wonder out to the casino floor occasionally as well, but mostly stick to the bar area. There are a few tables and chairs that are on the street level, but most of the ladies seem to line an area upstairs by the physical bar.

I met several nationalities there. There were tons of Colombians as well as Dominicans and some Nicaraguans as I recall. The selection was nice, but the hottest ladies by far were the Colombians.

I finally ended up buying a drink for a Colombian chick that I thought was pretty hot. Don’t remember her name, but she was 22 and from Medellin. Eventually got her down to $80, but she wouldn’t budge about the BBBJ. It was late and I was tired so I relented and decided to take her even though I knew I shouldn’t have. I should have looked around more. I actually thought there was some decent chemistry while were we chatting, but I also should have detected her mercenary attitude. I think I knew it was going to suck, but I needed to stick my dick in something so I didn’t care.

We got back to the room and it was one problem after another. She was a lousy lay all the around, the CBJ was pretty much worthless and she ended up getting her $20 back for the two photos I took of her. I still can’t believe I paid $20 for two photos, but oh well. So in all, I ended up paying $120 for a pretty lousy lay all the way around. $80 to her, $20 more to her for the photo and then $20 to the hotel for fucking in a room I had already paid $76 US for. After all that I was the one who got screwed, not the one doing the screwing. Hopefully the following day would be better, because this one pretty much sucked.

Xen, it's unfortunate the Colombianas are still mercenary in the CR. But, as you saw, the Del Rey is usually packed with weekend mongers who tend to spoil these gals. When I used to go to CR, I recall I usually got better sessions with the Ticas, Nicas, and especially the Dominicans.

Day Two

Zona Blue on my mind.

I had Hotel Zona Blue in my sights for a while. Seemed like an interesting place and the price was about right. No idea if it is actually a hotel or not, but it appears it might be from their webpage at http://www.zonablue.com

Their phone number is 257-8624. They claim that they will also pick you up free of charge from your hotel. I actually took a taxi there, but didn’t really need to. As it turned out, it was just a few blocks away from the Holiday Inn and I could have easily walked there. Here are some pictures of the front and then some of the fuck rooms.




Their rates were 16,000 colones for a half hour and 24,000 for an hour. I approached the front door and had to be buzzed in by the front desk clerk. A wide hallway lined by rooms led back to a small bar area where all the ladies seemed to congregate. I ordered a beer and started to scan the talent. There were several ladies I was attracted to. I actually had a difficult time choosing. Eventually, I called over a flaca who had some blonde highlights in her hair. Her name was Natasha, 23 from Nicaragua. I was attracted to her and she was friendly, so I decided to take her to the room for an hour.

This place is a strip club ala Nogales, Sonora, Mexico style. The similarities are almost striking. When you enter, be sure you use the entrance on the left. The entrance on the right is the downstairs one and that is men. The ladies are upstairs. There was a cover charge which included some beers. I think I was given four tickets. It was two for a beer.

They also had table dances. I think they were in the $5 to $7 dollar range, but honestly, I don’t remember. I watched several ladies do their routine. Some of them were excellence dancers. I finally decided on a flaca named Kelly. She had a nice body, but looking back at her pictures, I would say she is even older than the 26 she claimed to be.

I am also fairly certain I got ripped of at this place. The map I referred to earlier in the report said 10,000 colones for the room and then talk to the lady for her price. I was quoted an all inclusive price. Unfortunately, I don’t remember exactly the amount I was quoted and ended up paying, but I believe it was well over $100 for an hour. I asked el jefe what happened to the 10,000 colones price and he said that was from 2 or 3 years ago. I made sure my chica would at least do the BBBJ and would allow photos. When she agreed to both I decided to fork over the money and do it for the experience.

I ended up losing $200 US over the course of several hours, but with the free booze flowing, I did manage to get a rather significant buzz. The following day was Sunday and I knew my options were limited. I was REALLY bummed about Zona Blue being closed for a private party, but still needed to check out New Fantasy massage. So that was on my list for Sunday.

Hey Xen, I have been two a half dozen Strip Bars" in CR, and every one of them tried to pull something. This is the first I have heard of on sight though, except Hollywood's in Jaco...don't even try going there it is a really bad rip off, and they have an arrangement with the police to enforce it.

It would be interesting to find out the actual price though. Most require you to buy a half dozen drinks (then they try to charge you for several extra), and then want $250 - $300 for an hour or so.

Day Three

Is Anything Open on Sunday?

I woke up feeling rather crappy this day. I drank a little too much the previous night and it ended up coming back to bite me. I woke up at least twice during the evening and bowed down to the great porcelain god. I ended up sleeping a little too late, as New Fantasy, the one place that was on my list for the day closed at 5:00 pm. Around 3 or 3:30 I finally forced myself out of bed and got ready.

I drank some water and then headed to the elevator to find a taxi. By the time the elevator doors opened I could feel the water coming back up. So I sprinted to the restrooms in the lobby. Ok, so it was going to be one of THOSE days. Guess I wasn’t going to be eating or drinking anything for a while.

New Fantasy, much like Zona Blue, was well within walking distance from the Holiday Inn. Still, I took a taxi. Upon entering there is a small reception desk. Immediately to the left is almost a fishbowl, with a piece of tinted glass and ladies sitting behind it. The dark tint kind of made it really hard to see the ladies.




Met a dude there from Miami and we chatted a bit. He was waiting for chica who was busy fucking away in the room. I didn’t see anything I liked through the tint, but was encouraged to stay and wait for some of the ladies who were in the room to finish. The front desk clerk mentioned they were unusually busy this day.

The horrible session I had with the Colombiana on my first night was just in the forefront of my mind and I didn’t want a repeat of that session.

So I again finished the evening at the Blackjack table, this time without all the alcohol. I had a morning flight out of town and back to the states.

Some final Costa Rica thoughts.

Not too impressed overall, but it was probably not given a completely fair shake based on my limited time there. I could have checked out many more venues, especially some of the smaller and less expensive ones. But I tried to stick mostly to the bigger and more established places.

Sunday’s are definitely very bad there, much like Panama. It would probably be a good idea to have some mobile numbers and a stable of chicas you can call for hotel dates on Sunday. I would have LOVED to hit Zona Blue again, but the private party put a complete damper on those plans.

Photos seemed extremely difficult to obtain there. I had at least one lady flat out refuse until I tipped her ($20 US), another would only let me take photos of her body and not her face, and the hottest chica I did there only allowed me to take a photo of her kissing her girlfriend with their faces covered up by their hair. That was a real bummer. The scene in San Jose seems very centralized into a rather small area, so this reluctance on photos by the chicas is probably understandable, but it sucks for guys that like mementos like me.

The service there completely and totally under whelmed me. BBBJ’s seemed completely and totally non-existent from the chicas at the Del Rey, although I did have much better luck at almost every other place I went. I would rate the service a step two above your average TJ session, but still well below your average Thailand, Philippines, Brazil and German FKK experience.

I also didn’t think much of the available talent at many of the places I visited. Most of the selections were rather small, with the exception of the Del Rey. It had a large selection, but was just full of a bunch of hard core super pros. Zona Blue was by far the best establishment I visited there in terms of overall quality and session quality, but even they had a rather small selection. The one thing Costa Rica does have going for it is variety. You can choose from Nica, Tica, Dominicanas, Colomibanas, etc. That is nice, but certainly doesn’t outweigh the other things I mentioned.

The Holiday Inn was a horrible choice of a hotel and I would not stay there again. I have no one to blame but myself for that, however. The $20 guest fee is just outrageous. If I am ever in Costa Rica again, I will try the Sportsmen’s Loge.

So now comes the inevitable time where I re-arrange my destination rankings. I am sure it is the part of the report that EVERYONE is waiting for.

Your rankings should be labeled "Pre BBFS Years" and "Post BBFS Years". The Filipinas are nowhere near as hot as most of the girls from other venues but the fun loving Filipinas and the constant BBicking is a true addiction that can only be replicated in a couple other venues.

Xen, great report, CR was one of my initial hunting grounds and I still admire the country very much for its scenery and fishing. I kind of suspected the Phils was ranked way up there for you :-)

Your instincts about Paisas (MDE), Calenas (CALI), and Costenas (coastal cities CTG-BARANQUILLA-Santa Marta) are correct. Most all Colombians I met were very proud of their roots and had lots of things to say about their home town vs. other cities. Great way to start a conversation w/ a gal is to tell a Paisa in CALI or CTG that you have visited MDE or have a deep interest in visiting MDE for instance.

But I always wondered, what do you call a gal from Bucaramanga--Bucaramangana?

Like you told me in my trip report, we were there on the same weekend and didn't know each other. I agree that Costa Rica can't hold a candle to SEA. You could have still had a better weekend. If I'd know you and that you were going that weekend, I probably could have talked you into the Zona Blue party, but it did have a $40.00 admission on Sunday. I agree that the Del Rey sucks generally. I've made about ten Costa Rica runs and only one SEA run, shame on me. Costa is so much easier for me (short air trip). I can't take a long weekend in SEA. If you must go to Del Rey, Key Largo is sometimes better. The girls are more flexible, but uglier by and large. Also the smaller massage venues are a good value. Oasis and such. Like in some of your other reports, Hong Kong and such you point out how some joints are bigger rips, it's the same in CR. Del Rey and Kamur are two of the big rips. If you go back to CR look at Costa Rica Tica. They have a deal for the Amon Plaza. $75.00 a night all taxes and safe fees included booked through them and the casino Paradiso. In CR the taxes are 16%. So the actual price is not much different than Presidente or Sportsman. No Chica charges and they have allowed me two at once. If you don't go through Costa Rica Tica, you can PM me and I can write to Nixon and get the rate. I gamble and they like me. Holiday Inn is a dive.

BTW I've read your various reports and think they're great. I'm going to SEA from 12/26 through 1/17 and I'm going to do a few days in Hong Kong, nine days in Angeles City and the rest in Pattaya. If you're in any of those places at those times let me know I'd buyer a few rounds. This will be my virgin trip to Angeles and I'm dying to kook forward to it from what I've read. Wish you had a better time in CR. If you do go back let me know and I can help you find better mongering.

Almost anywhere, any city will do. Colombianas rock! But, my personal preference and look, is for the Paisas of Medellin.

It is too bad we didn't get a chance to hook up in CR. I would have liked to of had more time to explore, but it just wasn't possible. If I do go back, I will try to check out some of the places you mentioned.

I understand where you are coming from about weekend runs to CR. It definitely makes sense since it is so much closer (and one can usually find cheap discount fares), but you should read some of I_Am_Sancho's reports. He is on the west coast and fits like 5 countries into a weekend run. It is amazing stuff. Of course, if you are in Miami or Dallas, Costa Rica must be REALLY easy for weekend runs.

I really liked Hong Kong, especially Wan Chai. The 1-4-1's can be a crap shoot, but there are some gorgeous mainland Chinese gals there. The Filipinas in Wan Chai were awesome to me.

In your opinion, what is the difference about the look from Medellin? I will say this, based on photos I have seen, it does seem like all the hotties come from Medellin though.

Paisas, IMO tend to look a little more European, lighter skin and a little slimmer. Down there they also call it "triguena" look.

Part of it could be due to the climate, MDE is up in the mountains, not as hot, humid, or tropical as other Colombian cities.

But you will find beautiful Colombianas all over the country! Seek and you shall find.....

I was there for two weeks about five years ago. I haven't been back. My experience was similar to yours so I concur with your placement of Costa Rica at #9 compared to the countries.

Everyone should take note of the girl marked "Del Rey" in your report. You can't judge a book by its cover. She was one of the hottest looking girls, but absolutely the worst once in the room! Moreover, I think she went to a junkyard to buy her fake tits. They felt like the surgeon stuffed anything laying around the operating room inside there!
