Sounds verrry interesting. I'm surprised that nobody has additional things to say about this place.

In a word: Awesome.

A true candy store with affordable pricing. I prefer skinny girls, and I have a very hard time finding one to my liking anywhere else, but here....

And if it's not your cup of tea, then look in the teapot, and you will find what you like.

Sorry, I tend to be a little shallow and go for the trophy, and here you can not only find one, but at a reasonable price. Or a very friendly girl as well, which is also nice.

Go to their website at www.hoteldelrey.com.
Email Jeff and let him know I referred him to
you. He is daytime manager, a good guy, with a
fucked up haircut-private little joke. He reads
and posts on this and other sites. He will take
good care of you.

Has anyone else noticed this particular standout?

She is colombiana, about 5'2" .. From either Cali or Medellin, I don't quite remember. She has light brown hair and a gorgeous model-quality face. She is really stacked, and has large breasts. She always wears jeans and a denim jacket. Now here is the giveaway... She always wears (blue or red?) colored sunglasses and spends most of her time walking around the casino area. She has a very seductive gaze, like none that I have ever seen before. When she makes solid eye contact, she will lower her sunglasses while gazing straight into your eyes.
For a second, I was daydreaming that I was back in Colombia.

Anyone remember her name??

A lot has been written here about the Marlin on this and other boards. Most of that advice is good. One thing I don’t think gets said enough is NEVER NEGOTIATE IN DOLLARS. The Costa Rica currency (Colon) devalues every day against the dollar. In ’98, the rate was about 250 Colones/dollar. Today the rate is about 350/dollar. That means that $100 is worth about $29 more now than then in their currency.

When you pay in dollars, the girl gets the benefit of the devaluation. It may not seem that way because to you it was $100 then and $100 now, but the chica is exchanging it for more and more money over time. When you exchange your money for Colones and negotiate in Colones, you get the benefit of the devaluation.

Of course, you shouldn’t pay $100, I just used it as an example. I speak Spanish and always talk to the chicas in Spanish. I usually start at 20,000 Colones and go up to 25,000 if the chica seems worth it.

By Pacifico on Saturday, March 23, 2002 - 04:53 pm:  Edit

When you pay in dollars, alot of them exchange the money for colones at the cashier booth next to the front desk. I was told by one of the girls that they have to pay a comission.

I usually look for one that I'm interested in, and offer to sit and chat.. I usually spend about an hour or so getting to know her, and I buy the drinks (which ends up costing next to nothing). If things don't click, I eventually excuse myself and go around looking again. One of the girls I took out to dinner, before offering her to go upstairs. After swapping life stories and getting the "I just made a new friend" feeling, I offer 15,000 colonies to go up to my room. 3 out of 3 times my offer was accepted, and I ended up having a really good time with each of them.

I think that if I walked around and tried offering 15k right off the bat, I would probably not get the same results.

I noticed that the majority of the gringos in the BM are tripping over their own feet and are too hesitant to approach the women... Either due to the language barrier, or awkwardness of the age diffference? I tend to avoid women who speak english, because those are the ones who tend to be what I would describe as the "tourist trap" women...

I had one guy ask me to help him set up the deal with one of the women, and dozens of otheres that I sensed needed help but were too shy or proud to ask?
I'm pretty easy going, and willing to help out whenever... Sometimes I actually get a kick out of it.. I would love to visit more often, but lack the time.. too bad I've got about 38? years left until retirement... (why not start this hobby at an early age?) Unless I strike it rich before then, and can live seasonally in san jose..

love them ticas..

I’ve never been charged a commission on exchanging cash at the Del Rey caja, but it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if they hit the chicas for one. The exchange rate is slightly lower at the Del Rey than at the Presidente or other hotels. It’s never enough to really matter, but it’s one of many reasons I don’t stay at the Del Rey anymore.

I also talk with the girls for awhile too. I usually have an “interview” that includes the following…..

1) SPEAK SPANISH-this is obviously the most important thing.
2) Tell her she is beautiful and that her hair looks nice.
3) Ask her if she has kids (probably yes). If so, ask to see a picture of them and comment how great they look even if they are ugly.
4) Ask about her family and how they are doing.
5) If I like them I explain I’m looking for a GFE and I’ll be in town another week or two. (By the way when any chica asks how long you will be there, the answer is always a week or two).
6) Then I quickly go over minimums of want and negotiate time-usually at least 2 hrs.

The interview helps a lot. You will be able to see who the bitches and mercenary types are and not pick them. You also can get a feel for good or bad chemistry and make a more informed choice. It’s considered polite for Tico’s to ask friends how their kids and family are doing-A few years ago I dated a Tica who was offended if I didn’t ask how her mother was doing every time I saw her. (She also asked how my Mother was every time). The answer was always the same “Bien, gracias a Dios” but it was rude to her if I didn’t ask.

This won’t guarantee you a GFE by any means, but it can improve the odds some.

Speaking Spanish is the key. I’ve also helped to translate in the BM, Presidente, Internet Café’s. I don’t mind it either and I’ve offered to help some guys who were obviously frustrated trying to explain something.

Why go anyplace else? The DelRey is a good hotel that offers great housekeeping and security services. They have 24 hr room service, casino, in room safes and mini bars, and I haven`t even mentioned the Blue Marlin Bar.
It is my favorite place to stay.

By Hombrecito1 on Sunday, April 28, 2002 - 07:33 am:  Edit

DG,

I don’t have a problem with the Del Rey-I’m there probably once a day while in San Jose, but I prefer the Presidente. Here’s why I’d choose someplace else:

• Price-$45 vs $55/night before the chica fee. Figure at least 1 chica per night on average and that’s $20/night higher to be at the Del Rey. For a 1 week stay that’s $140. Not a lot of money, but worth a few trips to IDEM.
• Rooms-I think the remodeled rooms at the Presidente are nicer, certainly the bathrooms are. It’s at least a tie and for the money I’d choose the Presidente.
• $3200 colones for breakfast vs. free breakfast-Why is an omelet, fruit, and gallo pinto worth $10 in San Jose?
• No Jacuzzi on 8th floor.
• Reputation. I’ve had a total of 4 working chicas (2 from IDEM, 1 from Eros and 1 from Arte Sauna) refuse to meet me or come to my room at the Del Rey because they were afraid they would be seen. If you’re trying to pick up a non-working girl at a disco or wherever, you should NEVER mention the Del Rey.

I can vouch that the security and housekeeping at the Del Rey are top notch. The jefa of the housekeeping is a friend of mine. They do checks on the maids according to her and theft of belongings has never been a problem. I prefer the Del Rey electronic safes to the ones with the keys in the Presidente. I also liked having the mini-bar-I never used the overpriced stuff in it, but you can keep your own drinks and other things in it. I don’t gamble much and I usually don’t eat at the Café Rey, so that was never an issue with me.

I would recommend the Del Rey for first timers, especially if your Spanish is not very good because most of the staff speaks good English. There are lots of fellow gringos around who can give you advice on where to go and what to see. There is also nothing like walking down the back steps down into the Marlin when it packed with chicas. To me this was the biggest draw of the Del Rey.

Overall, I think the Presidente is a better value. A lot depends on your length of stay. If it’s for 3 days the difference in price is minimal, but it can add up if you are staying a week or more. You can also find places to stay much cheaper than the Presidente, but I’m spoiled and want cable, AC, etc..

don gordo;
Is the $55 shown on the website the rate to pay in may? Is it safe to use your credit card on the website to reserve? I'm there for 5 nights, should i reserve 2 nights and look aroun? Is this $10 charge per chica? It could add up. How does it appear on your bill? Is it obvious to prying eyes? Can you reserve with credit card then pay cash? sorry for all the questions, but as they say, this is not a drill, I'm set to go may 9'.

little Hombre; how do You book the Presidente?
Website or what. Would it be unwise to show up on a thus evening with no res?

Thanks

By Scooter on Sunday, April 28, 2002 - 01:10 pm:  Edit

Very Important - When booking at the Presidente tell them you want the TSM rate. This will save you money for sure. You can e-mail them to make the reservation.

By Hombrecito1 on Sunday, April 28, 2002 - 04:42 pm:  Edit

Perorojo,

$55/night is the single rate year round at the Del Rey. They will not go lower unless you are there an extended time (say 2 weeks) and you pay upfront in cash. I’ve gotten a rate twice of $35/night doing this, but YMMV depending on the time of year, availability, etc..This was also 3 yrs ago, so it may not be possible now. I don’t know about reserving online with a credit card, I’m sure you probably can. I probably would call and give it to them.

The chica fee is $10/girl each time plus 16.4% tax. They will hit you every time for every chica-even repeats of the same one if you had an afternoon session then an evening session. My last stay at the Del Rey was 3 yrs ago, but I remember the bill showing a “guest charge” after the standard room rate in colones. To me it was obvious, but I was looking for it. They should have changed this by now if they already haven’t-someone who has stayed recently should be able to give more accurate info on this. You can reserve a room with a credit card and pay cash.

At the Presidente you can book online or by phone. I would call Maria Antonia at 506-257-8525 or email at sales@hotel-presidente.com and give her your credit card # to secure the room. Then have her fax or email a confirmation to you. I prefer to call her because I know she is the one putting me in the computer and it won’t get screwed up. Be sure to have the confirmation when you check in. I’ve had many reservations lost before and if you don’t have a confirmation in writing, you don’t have shit. I wouldn’t just show up without a reservation. You don’t have to mention the TSM rate specifically, just tell them you want the $45/night rate.

As for booking for 2 nights and looking around, that’s up to you. A lot of people do it to see which hotel they like better.

Pura Vida,

Thanks much Hombecito;

Had my secretary email for a business rate and presidente came back with the $45. I'm going to go ahead and book.
Saw several nice looking B&B online for $30 per night. They look like very straight laced places. Considered using a variation of my TJ/Juarez tactic or getting a secure family run hotel to leave my stuff in and then going to some dump if toda la noche comes along.
One last question, are threr in room safes at presidente? thanks for your help

By uwphoto on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 - 02:14 pm:  Edit

Yes. $3 extra per day. Ask at front counter when you check in.

By Hombrecito1 on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 - 02:31 pm:  Edit

Uwphoto is right. Safes are $3/day and they're the cheaper kind with a key instead of the electronic ones in the Del Rey.

By Dongringo on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 - 08:25 pm:  Edit

Hate to sound callous about the money, but I've never let the room charge bother me at the DelRey. The chica has to give her cedula, or ID to the deskman to go upstairs. They know if they screw a guy they'll get blacklisted outta the best gig in Central America. Having this extra level of security gives me peace of mind.

During rainy season, hunting for a chica at the DelRey/Blue Marlin and then leaving during an afternoon shower to walk 1.5 blocks to the Presidente doesn't do much for me.

To me, a hotel is only as good as it's service and the service at the DelRey always blows me away. They're incredibly well run.

Two times I had chicas say she wouldn't go to the DelRey. Both times, we went to a 3000 colones hotel and had a good time. For $10, we soiled the sheets and used the towels at another hotel, leaving my room at the DelRey available for a fresh encounter thereafter.

The debate rages on!

By Hombrecito1 on Wednesday, May 01, 2002 - 04:07 am:  Edit

Dongringo,

It ultimately comes down to personal taste. Most hombres who have enough $ to go to C.R. aren’t going to care about the difference in price between the Del Rey and the Presidente. Since there’s such a big split between hombres on this I usually recommend to try both and stay at the one you like best.

One reason I no longer stay at the Del Rey stems from a few minor incidents that happened in’98 and ’99 that I don’t want to go into because the people involved are no longer there and everything I’ve heard about the hotel since then has been positive. In ’99 I started going to the Presidente and I’ve never had a problem with anything and the service has been excellent, so they basically won by business.

You can have a great time at either hotel. Any issues I have with the Del Rey are minor and I do want the Hotel to prosper as it has done because it's the key place in the SJO scene.

Thanks,

The girl is Johanna, if it's the same one I'm thinking of. She's an enthusiastic cowgirl from Cali with a little boy, as I recall. Out of her clothes she's got a fabulous body, which tastes real good. More accomodating than any other Colombiana that I've taken out from the BM, but that's not saying much as the others have not been so accomodating or kind (no DFK, most of the time no DATY). $100 a shot.

Thanks mrhappyone!

It was really bothering me that I could not remember her name. It's good to hear that she would have been a good choice. Despite the temptation, I avoided all Colombianas, since I have already experienced Colombia. I was strictly hunting those fine ticas and nicas..

Does anyone with a recent visit know if the new visa restriction on Colombians entering Costa Rica has affected the selection of Colombianas?

P.S. what is DFK?

I wentto Costa Rica last Feb. and as most single american men do, I headed straight for the Hotel Del Rey in San Jose. I was overwhelmed by the number of woman available, the beauty of many of them and how incredibly friendly they were. I waited for a whil and my patience paid off as an incredible Columbian came in that would have been a 10 in any country. She spoke enough engish for us to get by on the basics.

I dod not remember her name, but she had a playboy body and hot latin way about her. The cost for her to come cack to my hotel was $100. It was about 2am so I was to be her last for the eveningso i was bale to convince her to stay the night with the added incentive of buying her breakfast.

What a night, she treated me like a king. We did it all and then she offered to wash me in the shower. We did this 1 more time and then fell asleep in each others arms, very much liek having a sweet girlfriend.

I recently visited Hotel Del Rey. There were many beautiful women available for $40 to $100 per session[usually an hour]. Colombians, Nicaraguans,Dominicans, and Costa Ricans were there. Most were age 20 to 28. Security is very good in the Del Rey and surrounding hotels. It makes the women very honest. The women who visited me were very affectionate and seemed to really enjoy their work. The women are available to go places and enjoy other types of entertainment. Some of the hotels charge $15 to $20 to take women to your room. Hotel Morazon does not.

Lot of beautiful women (mostly 5 to 8) with a few noticeable exceptions. Going price is $100 but can be quickly bargained down. Where else can you find great deep sea fishing, $1 beers and beautiful, available women. Blue Marlin Bar is fantastic (plus casino!)

Veteran visitors know that the Blue Marlin in the Del Rey Hotel and Casino is the place to go but things were slow there because of an election of some sort and all the bars were closed for like 24 hours. The casino was open and a few girls were hanging around so it was not a complete bust. I don't know if this is an annual election or not but it would be wise to check before going there in November. The Del Rey, by the way, also has an add-on for taking a girl to your room but I understand it is only $10.

This was my second trip to San Jose. I was there last June and I had an interesting thing happen on that trip. I did a little gambling at the Del Rey Casino and the guy in the caja (cashier) gave me a bogus $100 bill when I cashed in my chips. The bill appeared old and had been torn and repaired with cellophane tape. Of course, I did not know it was counterfeit. I passed it on to a nice Colombian girl for her services. She called me the next morning and complained that I had given her a "malo billete". I was skeptical of her claim but she said a money exchange house had examined it. Anyway she brought it over to my hotel and I immediately recognized it as the bill I had given her because of the tape. I gave her another $100 and took the bogus bill back to the Del Rey Casino.

It took awhile but after talking to two or three levels of management the owner of the hotel and casino came down and looked me over. He said he wanted to see if I looked honest. He didn't even examine the bill. He just looked at it and said it was bogus. I wasn't sure whether they were going to replace the bill and I told him I didn't really care but that I thought it was bad for business for his casino to pass bad money off to customers, especially since they are so careful to check a bill when a customer gives them one when buying chips. The owner told me that he had no doubt that I had gotten the bill from them because they had video tape of every move at the tables and cashier cage and so he gave me another $100 bill.

I don't know how the bad bill got into the casino cashier's cage but since they are so careful about being sure they don't get stung when they accept bills from customers I suspect that the bill was planted there by somebody in order to pass it off.

Be careful, and if you get a bad bill, take it back to where you got it and complain!

For those who have never been to San Jose, I can only say that you don't know what you're missing. Go to the Blue Marlin. The girls are plentiful, beautiful and reasonable. About $50 for an afternoon session and up to $100 at night. Don't pay any more than that!

WHERE: CR (Costa Rica), San Jose, Blue Marlin.
WHEN: Early June 2002,
AMOUNT PAID: $200 PER 1 GIRL, TIME SPENT: All day, every day.

Intended on getting a GFE (GirlFriend Experience) 24/7, this was my second trip to CR.

DAY ONE -- Went to Molino Rojo at about 2000 HRS to search for a tica named Monica whom I'd had before, no luck, no possible ticas. Entered BM (Blue Marlin) at about 2100 - 2230 HRS. Met a Dominican girl whom I'd had before and during negotiations (in dollars) she never came down from the "asking price" of $200 for 24 hrs a day seven days a week (actually, I allowed her 4 hrs each day, freetime to herself, if she wished). Approx.

DAY FOUR -- Dominican girl hooked me up with her roomate (another Dominican but much sweeter and hotter) for the same price. Spent the remainder of my days with her. I'd rate the girls looks to be 7-8.

ADDENDUM: I was invited to their home several times; a sparsely furnished 2 bedroom apartment for three girls. While there, my girl answered a phone call from customer equiring about having a romantic relationship with one of her roomates. She lied and told the guy that she was unavailable saying (paraphrased) "We come here to work --for money-- not for love". The guy, obviously wanted it for free. These are WORKING girls, remember. She DID have a heart, however. I took her to see the famous Park Hotel, Costa Rican Dance Team. While there, she was shocked and saddened at what the women were doing on the bar (and if you have seen the show you'll know what I mean). Tears ran down her face. I took her by the hand and left the show early to comfort and console her. She talked about how sad it was to see these women with their C-section scars etc. exploiting themselves just to make a living. She had never been to the Park show. Unhappy with my damn hippy-like hair, she took me to a Dominican barber shop. The shop was located, essentially, in a one car garage and consisted of an old dresser with a large mirror, the "chair" was literally an old swivel computer-desk chair with rollers. Think, "Third World". Can't say the barber did any better or worse than the expensive "styling salons" in suburban American Malls. In your heart, always be proud to be a MONGER!

By Tight_Fit on Monday, December 30, 2002 - 10:40 pm:  Edit

Is that $200 a day or for the whole seven days? OK, maybe it's a dumb question but I was just wondering.

By Doncornholio on Monday, December 30, 2002 - 11:05 pm:  Edit

I apologize for the lack of clarity -- $200 per DAY. Another part I accidently made unclear was when the Nican girl said "We come here for work...." THAT was spoken to me AFTER she hung up the phone on the dude. I also treated these ladies like queens (helps make up for my lack of $$$). The key to getting this good deal is the dollar signs they see dancing in their heads when they do the math and realize "Gee, if I stay with this guy for 5 days, I'm guaranteed $1,000. If I gamble and take my chances at the BM over the next 5 days -- slow season -- I MIGHT get $300."

FYI on daily rates for chicas - YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) Daily rates are nice if you take a trip to Quepos or Arenal volcano. Then, she really is with you by virtue of geography. Just keep this in mind before you start flashing those US greenbacks for that dreamed of GFE (Girlfriend Experience). Cheers!

By Winner on Monday, February 03, 2003 - 08:50 pm:  Edit

Be careful that you are not paying too much. I have taken three different girls from BM on overnight trips and with very little negotiation they have gladly settled for $100 per night or in each case three hundred dollars for a three day trip. They were all young and good looking and gave a GFE. They quoted $200 but I just laughed and started looking around and they came down really quickly.

I've been to Costa Rica about 10 times on business and the Blue Marlin is my favorite spot. I know it has its detractors but it's always been the most reliable place for me to find a really hot "date." On my last trip I met several great ladies:I had two solo visits with "Jenni" from the D.R. (hot little spinner with fake boobs; probably around 24 years old) and a threesome with "Raquel" from Costa Rica (23) and "Erika" from Colombia (24). The threesome was amazing and Erika is smoking hot. I was staying at the Holiday Inn but they would only allow one guest at a time. We ended up going to a drive-in motel-type complex whose main purpose was obviously these types of situations. Cab drove in a little garage, we strolled into the adjacent room, which was nicely decorated and furnished and very clean, plunked down about $30 in a drawer and we were off.

Does anyone know the name of that motel place (it was about a 10-mnute drive from the BM) and has anyone seen Erika (Colombian) in San Jose lately?

While preparing for a trip to Costa Rica I dutifully researched the chica opportunities in San Jose. One name kept coming back again and again - the Hotel Del Ray.

Visiting the Hotel's web site they have a really cool 'bar-cam' that shows the barternder's 'alley' at hotel's bar. Just the look of the folks tending bar told me I had to get to this place to see if it was for real.

The big day arrived and after a LONG delay I landed at the San Jose airport. I hurriedly unpacked and caught a cab to the Del Ray arriving on a Sunday eveningn just before midnight.

All I could think upon driving thru San Jose was 'yikes - bad neighborhood' BUT the cab ride was quick, pleasant, safe, and inexpensive.

Walking thru the door of the Del Ray was a trip; you walk into the bar and it is just jammed with some of the loveliest young, trying to be young, and older women dressed to draw attention that I had ever had the pleasure!!

Taking up a seat the end end of the bar (I found the webcam quite easily) I 'took in' all of the action. Eye contact would find a chica rubbing herself all over you trying to make a deal. Saying "Hi" to a chica would find your 'malehood' being grabbed and kind words spoken to make your malehood rise to the occasion. Buying a drink - you are now going to have this woman in a very lusty manner.

After over an hour and a half of flirting, watching, and gently sipping on a beer; I chose a lovely Columbian girl by the name of Tequi. She is 22 (I think that is old by the Del Ray standards), was in the country illegally, and did not want to be sent back home. She has a child (with little evidence of child-birth but I learned that a bit later on). We talked, laughed, she made fun of my Spanish and I of her English. Then it was 'lets make a deal time'. One thing - these girls know how to negotiate - gosh - they should be in foreign affairs they are THAT good! We settled in on $60 plus tip for a great time.

Hailing a cab and back to the hotel room was the next order of business. We chatted like old friends in the cab with both of using our hands to explore one another like two teenagers out on a first date.

The main event - shower together, sat on the balcony to the room talking and sipping wine, then to the bedroom.

Incredible - this girl was part machine, part human, and all lust. There was nothing she would not do for fun and we had a lot of fun :-))) Multiple bells had not happened for me almost all my life but that night we managed three rings.

We fell asleep in one another's arms. The next three days was bliss; work during the day, met for dinner and some social activity - walking, boat ride, shopping - and then back to the hotel (who by the way did not mind I had a guest - the Marriott). Each night 'sleep' did not happen until at least 4am. She was incredible!

Total cost for the three days of bliss - dinners, shopping, events, etc. included was $900. She was happy, I was really happy, and that, and the lovely areas surrounding San Jose, is what makes Costa Rica such an international jewel.

If you go - please enjoy the people and their many charms - be safe but you will have a blast!

The number one location in San Jose - I know I live here and go nearly every night..Any questions ask me..

By Purasex on Sunday, November 16, 2003 - 04:30 pm:  Edit

You will find most Colombian girls (lot of them are "mancha" or "rubias" in other words their hair is dyed blonde.., Dominican Republic, Panama, A few ticas, an occasional NICA or Gutamalean..

Going rate is $100/hr + your room fee - you decide where you take them..I always negotiate to take them back to my place for all night..

Best rate I have recd is $50/all night..You can expect to pay $100-$200 for all night..Some girls will not do it.

These girls are pura Plata, real business women - they are pure money machines and have been spoiled by stupid gringos coming in and paying $100/shot for an hour..

Prices are too high -

BEST selection of women in the area - downside is there is no HEALTH CHECKS goinf on so be careful..

I can\'t belive the pretty women they have in the Del Rey located in the heart of San Jose Costa Rica. If you want to get lost for a week in a situation of lust, good food and great sex then hit up the Del Rey. I have never been so satisfied in my life. If anyone else has been there let me know what you think. Mcsurf

Hey, McSurf, I must have been there just before you, a week ago, and the talent was very fine this time around. Lots of beauts this time around. Am in Colombia now, where it's also great and lower prices and less competition.

$900 for 3 days of a chick? Good god it would under $125 in Bangkok... Good information though on Costa, I'm contemplating going in January. Thanks.

A pleasant surprise. I made a reservation with trepidation. What I got was a nice size room, more than adequate a/c; moderately comfortable king bed; and friendly service all-around for a mere US$60 + tax per night. Of course, the show is in the lobby, with the Blue Marlin and the casino. Guest fee, as reported, is just under US$10 ... per person, per visit. Rooms are clean and well attended. Tip: When you arrive, give the floor maid a couple of bucks and ask for a bunch of towels every day, instead of the standard two.

I'm ringing in a 2 thumbs way up for the Del Rey. Had the Presidential suite for about 7 days Met several chicas from Madrid, I've heard thats somewhat uncommon. The Columbians were a little pissed at these girls being there, $100 US all day. Took 2 of them on a two day trip to Jaco, no $ for sex, but of coarse I paid for a suite in Jaco(beds to small to fit all 3 of us,but I did my best to fit them in). I speak no Spanish, but they could care less. The big hit was giving them small little tokens from Victoria Secret, little secret I learned from some Brazil hombres. When I got back to the Del Rey hook up with some Columbians who were beside themselves why I selected the girls from Madrid, I sense a little pussy envy. Well they were hell bent on showing me that Columbians are better so I took two up to the room for $100 all night plus $10 guest fee. What a country where the women want to say they put a gringo notch on their belt.
One important thing I learned, you'll have much more success with these women if your just honest with them, screw the your beautiful, and learn about there personal life, they know your there for the sex. Just have fun with them, and treat them well, you'll be surprised at the freebies that will get thrown your way.

I consider the Del Rey and the Blue Marlin my favorite playground anywhere. Here I am in Lima, where the sporting life is keeping me really busy and yet I can't wait fior a break so I can fly up to CR and stay at the Del Rey. The Blue Marlin is exuisite, with girls from other parts of latin America and even europeans. I have done blondes from Poland and Russia in there, amazing. I speak spanish fluently and I have no problem negotiating or telling them that I am not intersted, or "come back when the Viagra kicks in". I have taken one woman out of the BM for month long vavations at the beach two diferent times, a couple of years apart. I first met her at he Park hotel, which I will speak of in that hotels chat board.
The Del rey is fairly priced, well kept up, secure, great reaturant and room service and a really nice casino. If yo go to CR, dont hesitate, stay at the del rey, the chicas are only an elevator ride away from your room!

By Ctnovice on Monday, February 06, 2006 - 03:21 pm:  Edit

Blue Marlin...simply an AMAZING place! Was there this past May and can't wait to return. Besides the packed bar with 50-75 chicas just waiting for your offer, the casino is only steps away. Most girls I spoke with are very nice and simply looking for an easy way to raise cash...but are very reasonable too. Seems very few are from Costa Rica...Dominican Republic, Colombia, Nicaruagua stand out in my memory...but majority are in 6-9 range, with an occasional 10 here and there, plus a few 4-5s thrown in the mix.

$100 always seems to be the starting price throughout CR, but here they seem to often get it. Probably not the best 'bargaining' place as there are tons of Americans here willing to pay the price...and the chicas seem to know it.

One beauty I hung out with stayed glued to my side for 2 1/2 hours until closing, even though I told her I had no money and wasn't up for business that night. She said, "that's OK" and just stuck around. But she was very pleasant (and my buddies were occupied), so I didn't mind. I thought I would see how the night went, curious to see whether her price would drop as the night went on. It didn't, but she still just hung around. I told her several times she should go searching elsewhere because I wasn't up for anything that night...I was just waiting for my friends...but she said whe was "fine" and would hang around until 2AM...if she had nothing by then, she would just go home.

Sure enough, 2AM hit, she said "thank you and good night", and walked out the door.

In the meantime, I saw several absolute stunners walk by trying to make eye contact. While I just wasn't in the mood that night, I have to count that one evening very high on my all-time list of fun evenings.

To restate my opening, the BM is simply amazing and an experience no one should miss if in San Jose.

Nice contribution, Ctnovice. Thanks.

For the rest of you, what is wrong with you people?

The guy had a killer night and all you do is tell him to go elsewhere.

People in TJ have a great time -- the next four posts are: Dude, TJ sucks, try Rio.

People in San Jose have an 'all-time' night and you say, "take the training wheels off."

Let's just make a new rule: If people don't have fun the way that YOU think they should, then don't bother going wherever it is that you were planning to go.

FWIW, one of the most fun times I ever had was one night in San Jose, hanging out with the ATF of one of my friends and her amiga, drinking and dancing the night away in Key Largo. I had been drained hours earlier, and it was purely a social night for me. I hereby apologize for enjoying myself outside of a terma.

CTNovice,
I agree with Gooch. I just got back from a 8 day mongering trip to CR.Last night was at the BM.Won $8K blackjack & slots had 2 "10's Together, paid FULL price. Danced gambled and did the nasty all night long, missed my f-ing plane but had the absolute time of my life. My best day was when I hung out with this "8" Columbian chick that spoke great English All day long, crocodile trip, dinner, dancing, by the end of the night I was too drunk and had left my vitamin V at the hotel, yeah I crashed at her place, no sex (that night) For once this bald fat 44 year old felt like the king of the world. So you go boy!Sometimes it's not the quantity but the quality. I'll take a great GFE over a turnkey anytime.

Anyone heading to San Jose the week of the 17th of june? I'm thinkin' I need to scratch my itch for a couple of days.I hear there's a pretty good rate out of Orlando on American right now.

By Latinamonger on Monday, May 29, 2006 - 08:32 pm:  Edit

I can officially say the the Blue Marlin bar is not what it used to be. The over all quality of the girls has dropped considerably. I had not been here for two years, and I am truly dissapointed now.

You can still find a looker, but they used to be the majority here, not just the minority.

I think part of the problem is the mongers do not care. I have watched guys take girls upstairs that I wouldn't touch. This just encourages the less beautiful. Sick, I know, but this used to be such a great selection. Now, girls get to work here who really shouldn't.

Oh well...

By Sf4dfish on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 02:47 pm:  Edit

A smart and more adventurous monger who cares, would fly to Colombia, where the majority of chicas bonitas come from! My two cents worth.

Update:

Just returned from a 7-day return trip to CR with the last night (Friday, June 9 '06) spent at the BM. Interesting observation is that I'd agree with Latinmonger above...the quality (at least for this one night) seemed to drop since my last trip only a year ago. Still, I'd call this a 'must visit' destination if in San Jose for the candy store visuals and experience alone. For example, saw two 'plump' babes (who appeared to be friends) walking around while my buddy and I commented 'no chance' to each other each time they walked by. Lo and behold, some 6'4" guy (looked like a pro football player) took them both out the door. To each his (or her) own. Funny. We also saw one definite ‘10’ walk out the door 4 separate times over a roughly 2 ½ hour period and was working on her fifth when we lost track of her. She clearly was having a good night.

For those of you above talking about 'training wheels' or 'go to Columbia' or 'go to Help' instead, those are somewhat irrelevant points...this thread is about the Del Ray. Thanks for the support, Gooch & Conch.

There ARE some good points in this thread above about a visit to this candy store (conduct an ‘interview’ before committing…you can find out a LOT up front, including compatibility; negotiate in Colones; consider the Presidente as a lodging alternative…they have excellent security and, at least for me this night, no chica charge).

Perhaps because this is ‘low season’, I found the talent very, very easy to negotiate with. My buddy and I both found bliss with two very nice Costa Ricans (his an 8 and mine probably a 7) for $40 each. I offered an additional $20 for mine to spend the night at the end of the session, which she accepted. All in all, a very entertaining evening…except for the incident below.

One BIG warning I’ll mention, which is alluded to on other posts outside this thread: I had read that it was a good idea to NOT walk the streets at night. Looking around the neighborhood, that’s easy advice to understand. Other posts at this site have said “take a cab…even if it’s only a couple of blocks away”. Well, this particular night, my buddy and I walked out with our respective ticas about 12:30AM and proceeded to make the short 1 ½ block walk to the Presidente (where we were staying)…it’s only one block down the street, take a right, and go ½ block to the Presidente entrance. Hey, there were four of us! Big mistake.

First, these kids (looking about 12 years old) begin hounding us to buy a single rose from them for our ‘dates’ the instant we step outside the Del Ray. They came up close to us and pushed the roses in our faces, quickly blabbing in broken English “buy rose for sweetheart! Buy rose for sweetheart!” No, No, and NO were our repeated responses for perhaps 30-40 feet…but they were extremely persistent and aggressive as we made our way down the street. Turns out they were likely the ‘advance’ party checking out where we kept our cash…because once we finally shake them and get ½ block away from the Del Ray, six guys jump out behind us from nowhere, grab my buddy’s wallet from his back pocket, flip him onto the street (breaking his hand), and take off.

My buddy then quickly jumps up in instantaneous rage and begins chasing them (a potentially HUGE mistake, I thought) and I immediately began to run after him, yelling at him to stop. But then my girl grabbed my arm to stop me while, simultaneously, this young guy walking by on the street starts yelling at me “I saw everything, I know who they are!”. So I stop, yell at my friend to “STOP!” (which he does, thank God), and begin talking to this ‘witness’ in the hopes we might be able to nail these pricks who just jumped my buddy. After a discussion with this ‘witness’, he says he believes he can get the cops to find them and bring them to justice…he only needs 5000 colones (about $10) for cab fair to go to the police station and back. The girls I was with then ‘negotiates’ him down to 3000 colones (she is from San Jose), arguing that the police station isn’t that far away, which he accepts.

Now, all of this is happening so quickly…and all just ½ block away from the Del Ray…on a pretty busy street with tons of activity just outside the Del Ray. But my better judgment tells me this seemingly helpful ‘witness’ is most likely just a part of this scam as I remember the two boys were unusually persistent (and close to us) when trying to sell us a rose. So, after we collect ourselves and talk through what had just happened, we walk the remaining distance to the Presidente (maybe only 200 yards away from this spot) and I decide to give this guy the 3000 colones just to see what happens. He says he needs my room number and the name of my friend so he can contact us when he returns. After thinking carefully through all the possible implications of this request, I give it to him. (This was our last night in CR and, as it turns out, exactly 3000 colones is all I had left in colones anyway, with the rest of my cash in $.)

Needless to say, we never heard from this guy again, as I suspected and expected. And, for the reasons below, I figured it was OK to give this guy a room number and a name (which I would normally NEVER do) as I judged there was absolutely nothing harmful he could do with this information…we were leaving at 5:30AM to catch our plane.

My buddy and I had just been talking two days earlier about how neither of us carry wallets…rather, we both carry our cash and critical credit cards in a front pocket, our room key in the other front pocket, and the only things that go in our back pockets are things like combs, receipts, business cards, or other miscellaneous items. So as we were talking about this incident on the way back to our hotel, I was surprised to find he was carrying a wallet! But, as it turns out, the only things in his rather slim wallet were business cards and a single ATM card to a Costa Rican bank (which he cancelled immediately once we got into our rooms). So in the end, no real harm done (except for his broken hand). And our ‘witness’ couldn’t do anything with the information I gave him other than contact us in the unlikely event he was actually an honest witness given that ATM cards require PINS to use (and the one stolen was cancelled within 10 minutes anyway) and the business cards were worthless to anyone else.

NET NET: The Blue Marlin is STILL an AMAZING place I would suggest anyone visiting when in San Jose. But BE CAREFUL around there. We were extremely fortunate nothing more serious happened. BELIEVE those who recommend taking a cab in San Jose at night…1 ½ blocks IS to far to walk!

Hope this post is helpful to those who are seeking information about the Del Ray. Rio and Thailand info is available on other boards and threads.

2. ARE THE AS WILLING TO PLEASE AND HAVE AS NICE OF ATTITUDES.
3.FROM SJ IS IT A PROBLEM IF YOU WANT TO GO ON A FISHING CHARTER BOAT?(I WOULD LIKE TO TRY A FISHING TRIP WHILE I AM THERE)
4. I AM PLANNING TO STAY AT THE DEL RAY. MAYBE GET A SUITE.
5. IS IT BETTER TO PAY WITH COLONS OR U.S. DOLLARS? IS 517c TO 1$ A GOOD RATE?

THANKS FOR ANY HELP

San Jose is not Rio, but still not a bad place to play. So in response here are some comments for you:
1. Pay the chicas after although many will ask for it first.
2. Many have great attitudes and are certainly willing to please, but Brasileras have more passion. It all depends on the vibes and you can have wonderful experience in SJO.
3. You can arrange fishing charters from SJO at many hotels but will have to head over to the Pacific coast for the actual charter.
4. The Del Rey is a great place to stay, essentially at the center of the playground.
5. Always pay with Colones.
Enjoy...

Just spent 5 days at the Hotel Delrey. Nice hotel but I'm used to Rio and renting apartments. I tell you, the Brazilian girls are not only more possionate. They really love sex. They love sex more than you do. For me San Jose was not even close to what I typically experience in Rio. And I did not find it cheaper than Rio. Never again, unless I'll go there someday with my wife....

Stayed in the Del Rey one night. Price update:
The economy room costs 70 dollars plus 13 dollars in tax. total 83 dollars. No discounts considered. The place is Ok for the first night in town, imho, but more expensive than I expected.

The next night I stayed in a hotel called Inca Real close to the New Fantasy MP. 45 dollars a night, tax included. I liked this hotel as it is quieter and cleaner than the DR. Chicas are welcome.

1st Time Del Rey:

Don't bother to play the tables seriously. The odds are way stacked against you. Same on the slots. But CHICAS galore. It's worth staying at the hotel Saturday night to see the lineup. It was like nothing I've seen before

Went to CR to play. Had not been there in about 10 years. Stayed at the Hotel Presidente in downtown San Jose. Highly recommend. It has been remodeled and is beautiful. Nice large room with a balcony. Went to the Del Rey bar to see what was available. The girls by the dozen just come up to you and it's your choice. Picked a different girl each night. One was probaly 21-22 that was drop dead beautiful and was my favorite. Sorry don't remember her name but you will know her when you see her. Small, petite, spinner body, flat stomach and tight! She was a 10! The first night was a 7 (my mistake as I jumped too soon before I had surveyed the room) and the last night was a 9. My only advice is to hide the snacks, cigs and liquor bottles as they will want them and you will pay the high hotel rates if you allow it. Hide the stuff and you don't have to deal with it. Del Rey was so successfull and easy I didn't try any of the others that are mentioned on this board. Have fun. I'll be back.

Quite a few girls staking out territory here.

They also opened a Little Blue Marlin across the street, but it was dead and Patricia told me that the working girls do not go there.

Patricia also told me Monkey Bar has closed.

Key Largo was open, but very empty at 10 PM on a Monday night.

I stopped in the Del Rey last night after the Pirate Club. There were significantly fewer women than I remember working in the past, but maybe that was just because it was 11pm on Tuesday.

I spotted a gorgeous blond from a previous trip that was now overweight and a few attractive women here and there, but no one else in particular stood out.

It seems strange to me, but I might go this trip without pulling a date from the Del Rey...well, maybe not, we'll see.

By Quilombo on Wednesday, December 05, 2012 - 11:59 am:  Edit

After years of reading about it, I finally got a chance to see the Del Rey. Golly, I have to say I was disappointed with the place. I wasn't that impressed with the Sportsman's Lodge either.

I pulled a whore out of DR late one night and had a lackluster session for $50 USD at my hotel. She had her shit packaged pretty good till the wrapping came off. Not so hot. I had been sufficiently worked up at a local titty bar earlier in the evening so my mind wasn't right.

The upside to Del Rey?-- it's 24/7.

By Mrmeaner on Monday, December 10, 2012 - 07:48 pm:  Edit

I've paid a few more visits to the Del Rey and the Sportsmen's Lodge and I agree with Quilombo, the talent has not been very impressive at either place. I'm not sure what has happened, it used to be better in the past.

I found the pictures of the blond from before. She's in my photos as Daniela. I'll have a link to the photos posted here. I've gotten some better looks at her and she's even heavier than I noticed. She's fat now. What a shame.

I also have since spotted someone I had found at the Beatle Bar in Jaco. So far she's the hottest I've spotted in the Del Rey. She's beautiful, but gives off a very hardcore vibe. I still would have taken her to a room if I hadn't already been with her. She's in my photos as Carolina. I'll get those links posted, too.

I'll likely pay one or two more visits to the Del Rey before I leave Costa Rica, but only because it's convenient, I have no expectations of being willing to pay the extra for anyone less than beautiful.

I don't have photos of lingerie model, but I do of the chica that compelled me to stand her up.
...
I'm walking down the bar in the back of Hotel Del Ray, when I spot this young beauty all by herself. She is slim with a dark tan complexion, jet-black hair, and is calm and quiet. She also has some amazing sweater puppies, which appear natural. I'd say a DDD (if that exists). She looks about 19-20 years old, with a bit of a mysterious look. An amazing package, and I am forced to stop and chat.

She freelances at HDR occasionally, and is definitely not a hardened pro. She is demure, polite, friendly, easy going. I propose we spend the evening together (a few hours) for $140. She immediately accepts and we head off to my hotel. I vaguely remember something about a date with a lingerie model, but quickly forget as I admire the curves on this slim, busty chica getting into the taxi outside HDR.

Back at my hotel we sessioned, then had a few drinks at the bar, then back to my room for another session. Those DDD puppies were all natural as I had thought, and the baby oil tittyfucking was simply fantastic. About 4 hours total, and I gave her $150. One of the hottest chicas I've had in awhile.

Evidently I suck at taking photos, this one came out a bit fuzzy, but you can still see what she looked like.

Luisa. Tica, early twenties, pretty, brunette, B-cup. $80 for 1.5 hours. Good service.

Monica. Tica I think, early twenties, cute, great smile, hot slim and tan bod, B-cup. Friendly and upbeat. $70 for 1 hour. Good service, would repeat.

Sophie. Colombiana, early twenties, fresh attractive face, white skin, very hot bod, D-cup. $80 for 1 hour, after she relented. Back at my hotel she started well, doing a nice striptease, but the service after was not great. I think she was a bit of a germaphobe. She also mentioned at one point I was paying less than her usual fee. I think she hangs out with another chica from Medellin at HDR, a bit older with big tits and who came across as a shark. Sophie is a beautiful girl, but I cannot recommend her.
