I guess your are entitled to your own outlook and I don't know how often you visit TJ but if you view all Mexicans in ZN as out to screw you how can you possibly enjoy or justify going there? I think the attitude you are projecting when you travel probably influences how people view you and treat you.
More than a couple of locals have really saved my ass when I was in trouble. Also, a few US citizens living down there are some of the most bad news people I know of.
Your comments on being on guard when walking etc... are good ones. TJ is a dangerous city but so is New York or San Francisco.
The author of the above story is a good guy and I am really bummed it happened to him. It is really scary shit. I'm also bummed though that some elderly Mexican laborers in Rancho Santa Fe got the shit beat out of them by Mt. Carmel High teens with nothing better to do and NOTHING to gain from it. ("True friends from the north")
Bad people exist everywhere, so do good people.
