Redongdo, I should have used "why" not "how" in that sentence. I chose the word "appear" precisely for the reason you describe. At the end of the day there is no way for a monger to know exactly what degree of coercion exists. I was merely illustrating my thinking and some of the methods of protecting myself from participating in defacto slavery. The debt issue, as we all know, is the primary tool for holding immigrant women in prostitution in the US, Europe and the third world. Surely, you must agree though, that many chicas in TJ not only have the ability to leave, but that they are just not able to give up the good money they make.
