It may not be as bad as would assume. Mexicans don't put as much emphasis on Dec. 25th ( Christmas Day) as "gringos nortes" do...I was down there last year during the "holiday season" for about 10 days and Christmas Day was pretty much business as usual( well, the evening of Dec. 25th...). The holiday that IS a big deal for Mexicans comes after Christmas and I think it's called "Cumpleanos" or something like that. Apparently, every MX Catholic kid has a second "saint's" name...it's almost like a second birthday, but has religious significance...and it's celebrated after the traditional Dec. 25th date, sometime in January I believe... Also there's a whole Catholic holiday season that leads up to Mardi Gras, starting from 12th Night and finishing in a grand bachanal way down yonder... Anybody else have a more thorough knowledge of this topic? I believe it was El Chamuco who once explained it in great detail, several Xmas's ago... KRICO |
