I am not even going to try to play legal advisor on this one. The link above has new information that may help you. You can obtain a document that will help you in crossing the boarder if you are from specific countries listed.

The first page listed is the INS home page. The second is the specific page that may be of help for you.

To every one in this group that crossed the boarder on a regular basis it may be a good idea to order the hand book to be sure you understand your rights as a US citizen crossing at the boarder.
The one thing that all need to realize is the following:

"The Border Patrol, as the mobile uniformed branch of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, has as its mission the detection and prevention of smuggling and illegal entry of aliens into the United States, with primary responsibility between the Ports-of-Entry."

Source for the above is:

INS could have detained you. If you are detained you really should be aware of what will happen and what your rights are.

The only reason I am posting this is for information and the fact that I have just about completed all the paper work to get my girlfriend over here and I know we are going to run into crap the first time. I have read so many documents lately that I am actually considering doing this for people (not). Knowing your rights and knowing the guidelines that must be followed by the Boarder patrol agents and the Custom agents is the key to keeping yourself out of a 72 hour detention. I cross on a daily basis and for six months have not had any problems. Each day I have my lap top and sometimes other electronic gear with me. Just do as they ask and you should be there no longer than 15 - 20 minutes if you walk in and no more than 45 minutes if you drive in. Once you are detained and they find nothing it really does make it easier if they stop you again. Once you are sent to any secondary and they ask for any type of ID you are logged with the results of the previous secondary inspection. If they found nothing the first, second, or third time your dentions time is really reduced if they stop you again. Just roll with it be honest and as long as you are doing nothing wrong you will be on your way.
