Did you know there are an estimated 800+ child prostitutes working in the zona (According to a DCF report last month)? And those were the ones they were able to count. I mention this because sometimes legislation doesn't do a whole lot to help the human condition. Ultimately, I'm interested in the root cause of all this stuff. Why are there kids working in the zona. Why are there women age 18-22 for that matter. Where are they coming from. What can be done to give them other alternatives. Ultimately, I'm looking at social dynamics and history. Do you know there is not one book out there on the history of the sex trade in Tijuana? Anyway, anthropology isn't a discipline that can really be compared to other quantitatively oriented disciplines. I have a very holistic approach. I want to look at an issue from many different angles. Find out which ones are most useful for the questions I have. If I only had one question, it might make for a really boring 300 page dissertation... Thanks for your comments. |
