Well, I'm glad that your physics prof said that...It lends validity to many phenomena that I find occuring in my life...Yes...yes...the old paradigm must be broken, before a new one can be formed...
The first couple of years that I was diligently studying the Spanish language (a task begun thanks to a moment of epiphany inspired by a certain li'l favorita...)...I actually had what I would call "schizophrenic moments", wherein I could feel ancient paradigms (constructed in my mind with the English language) crumbling and collapsing, seemingly without replacement...perhaps this was nothing more than the "reflexive fear" reaction that is all too common when one finds one's sense of reality involuntarily modified ( in my case, I was deliberately modifying my sense of reality with language...but still, it had it's fearful moments of dislocation and disconnection...almost acid-like in sensation..."When you're strange"...)..
I seem to have passed that stage in language development, but a lot of the "magic" of the chicas has disappeared, as well...
For a brief window in time, as I struggled with the language,it seemed as if raw thought itself was the actual burning beam of communication...but then the words (and the sound of the words...) became commonplace to my ear and my perceptions and habitual usage replaced the sense of amazement I felt when "they" understood my words...
And now I'm caught in that cultural netherworld of Texas Mike..neither here nor there...nor anywhere...
Pass the burritos, bro...
