some of this is do within my own boundaries... 1) I've been offered money,drugs,friendship,"eternal love", security, etc. for sex since I was 12. What girls hasn't? I was first solicited for sex outside a club in Reno (I had stepped out of the arcade my parents dropped me off in). I've been around. I've learned its not who you are or what you look like that really counts, its where you're standing... 2) I shop at Calimax and cook my own food, I don't use credit cards and have a meager budget. I live in TJ but not downtown, but not because I didn't try. I couldnt find a room to rent. I don't work for pesos, but I am poor. Not like they are, but more poor than I have ever been. Thought about getting a job, but my first priority is research. I volunteer by giving english lessons, helping to build houses, and I do work for free at PAMSIDA (non-proift group) Thought about bartending actually, but i'm not fluent yet. I'm living on a $10,000 grant for the year, and thats about what Mexicans make annually. I was on the streets a lot as a kid, its not completely foreign to me. Thats probably why I chose this topic (i.e. I can't see ANYONE in my department being comfortable or interested in doing what I do). And no, that was not me. Though I have dark hair and a cute smile, I'm in my late 20's and I'm 5'10" with my sandals on!
