And the smart thing to do is pull over to either the far left or far right where the inspectors are lie you are supposed to. You can continue on driving, but plenty of times I have seen some pissed off donut eaters chasing after people who just vamoose through, whereas if you stop you are pretty much guaranteed a 'pop the trunk s'il vous plait' and a 'pasale' response that takes all of 15 seconds to play out. Generally I am the hardest of hard core 'fuck da tocino' guys, but in this case I would strongly advocate simply playing by the rules as to avoid the senseless aggravation if you are the guy they decide to make an example of. If you MUST live dangerously, though, You can tell when they are EXTRA serious when they have a) guys standing in the medians directing people toward which side to go when the bell goes off, and b) when there are 3-4 escuadron cars at the little inspection station on the right with people actually near them.
